"If only I worked out before, maybe I could outrun you!" I shouted, while running for my life…. literally.
I dashed as far as my undead legs could without looking at my surroundings. My heart stopped beating moments before when I turned undead. But suddenly, it came alive when the zombie truck came charging at me. It was as if my organs did not want to stay dead even after what they had been through.
And then it happened.
While sprinting, my body tumbled to the ground and rolled towards the road. It was an embarrassing moment, considering that the pavement did not have any bumps or elevated stones. I fell because my uncooperative noodle-like body disregarded the instructions I sent for them to listen.
There was no discomfort or pain, even after falling on the cold floor. I even had my legs bent like a freaking branch that came out from a tree. I used them to shield my chest since I would smack myself against the ground.
"I might have heard something cracking down below…. I just hope that's not my light saber," I grumbled, while staring at my thighs.
It was what I had expected. My two femur bones became like a bottle of milk dropped by the milk deliverer. If the doctor could see my condition, that physician would have probably screamed at me. I did not know how medical staff could fix a broken bone, let alone a shattered one.
But to my surprise, the two longest bones inside my body patched up on my hip. It was as if god himself glued it for me, telling me that deity fixed it. After a few seconds of that magical occurrence, I could control my legs again.
"I was wondering about the medical cost of my legs. But that works like a charm."
Before I could even have the time to think, another blaring sound entered my ears.
[Congratulations! You've reached the city! The system rewards you with an extra random skill!]
"BAH! YOU FUCKING SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME!" I screamed, while jolting backwards.
I immediately covered my mouth after I realised what I did. I could not risk myself getting found out by those zombies, especially the goliath one hunting for me. Luckily for me, that King Kong undead did not hear my voice as I continued reading the floating screen.
[Caution! You cannot gain any skills if you do not have a system! Be sure to complete the first quest before completing the previous one!]
[Alert! Since you've broken your arms, the system grants player Kawai Fukuyo the trial of skill "regeneration" and applies it to you. The system cannot give you another chance if you get hurt for the second time. This opportunity will be your last. As soon as you complete your quest, that ability would become the gift from Quest 1.5]
"I am about to die, and you fucker want me to finish that task?!" I grumbled, while slowly picking myself from the ground. "Tell me how I could even kill that monster in this place! I don't need nothing but to kill that jumbo mambo whatever that zombie is!"
It was accurate enough that I reached the city after running for quite some time. When I glanced around, the familiar streets greeted my eyes. Each street had a stall and an empty car parked in front of it. If I squinted my eyes, there was also a gas station in the distance, with a pool of automobiles stationed everywhere.
However, the showcasing of cars changed when the corpses of both humans and zombies greeted my eyes. There were dozens of guns and makeshift weapons on the ground, but I doubt I could use them with my zombified arms. I could barely even run away from this frenzied monster chasing me around. Firing a gun at this zombie would be a miracle for me to happen.
Those piles of undead creatures did not have the same features I saw from the cliff. Each of the zombies here in the city had larger hind legs, gigantic arms, with wings attached to their backs. It even looked like a demonic being of some sort that one would notice from movies. Some of them even resembled a hybrid dog mixed with the DNA of some sort of animal I never knew.
Other lingering zombies sauntered along the roads, looking for their next meal. But since all the humans had already retreated elsewhere, the zombies had nothing to do but stroll around.
I panicked for a second, thinking that the undead horde would come for me. But after a few moments, those mindless creatures did not mind my appearance. The flesh-eaters continued striding at the empty streets without giving me a
But I pushed those aside and focused on the mad titan chasing me around. Coming out alive from this cat-and-mice game was my utmost priority, rather than observing my surroundings.
Fortunately, these buildings gave me a territorial advantage. Since I lived here for my entire life, I should probably know the streets of this town, especially when I was Asian…. And Japanese.
However, that was not the case. I knew nothing about my home country, even if my parents raised me for eighteen years. I was that kind of guy who couldn't memorise a single name of my fucking street.
I only knew the streets I took to school, especially the trains and plazas I passed by. If it was a street that I had not been to before, I would probably disregard it as unimportant information.
And I knew I was not the only one who had that peculiar ability.
"Come out, little one!" A voice emerged in front of the building, calling for my attention. "Me wants fight! You run, me chase!"
"Jesus Christ, who the hell says that!" I exclaimed to myself, while nearly shitting my pants. "Is he talking to me? Of course, Kawai! That fucking guy is talking to me!"
There was nobody here in the streets besides the zombies and me hiding in this spot. Much to my surprise, the zombies idling on the roads stopped for a second. They all gazed at the monumental undead with eyes of despair. That gargantuan, which I named the ugly bastard, glared at the zombies standing like ants.
Within a few minutes, the titan rushed towards the zombies and flung them to the side. Some undead shattered upon crashing against the building, while others got their upper bodies high, torn apart. It came flying upward and eventually hit the floor.
That gargantuan continued rampaging until the humanoid zombies rushed away from the scene. The big guy did not chase them down, thinking it would just waste his time. And from the looks of it, that bastard was not content even after killing an army of zombies.
My big man did not even break a sweat as he trampled every undead creature in front of him. I did not know if zombies could even produce sweat. But for my analogy, I would just hope they could.
Those few zombies lying around the street had an unfortunate fate before them. The gargantuan approached those carcasses, took one zombie, and chomped it down like a burger from a fast-food chain.
"They don't have friendly-fire on with their...group?" I mumbled to myself while witnessing the entire scene unfold in front of me. "I thought zombies can't kill or eat zombies, much like humans!"
(Author's Note: Friendly-fire is a weapon fire coming from one's own side, especially fire that causes accidental injury or death to one's own forces. Source: Dictionary Oxford)
I did not exclude the part that humans attack their own kind, too. There would always be strife revolving around a group of people coming together. And here, I thought the zombies shared the same morality as humans.
But this gargantuan killed his fellow zombie mates without batting an eye. Instead of feeling empathy towards the undead creatures he squashed, the gargantuan's mouth curved upwards for a smile. It almost looked like that asshole had the best time of his life throwing the zombies in the distance.
"I am coming for you, little one!" the gargantuan repeated, while searching for something in the streets.
It did not take a genius to know that the titan zombie looked for me at all angles. And when the zombie lost his patience, he threw the cars towards the buildings. He did it without a care in the world.
I instinctively concealed myself behind the building. But within a few seconds, the gargantuan lost patience for the second time and threw cars at each side. He planned on destroying every tall building he found, creating an open layout of the city. If these buildings got destroyed, there would be no place for me to hide.
The car that the titan threw finally hit the building in front of me. The collision forced me to run for my life, far from this place. After his hard work, the gargantuan finally reaped his seed upon witnessing my figure galloping away.
