Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

Alexa

He's so handsome up close, she thought, his eyes are so beautiful and warm. Why didn't I notice that yesterday? Oh, how I wish I could just-

But her train of thoughts was cut off when a throat was cleared nearby.

Oh god how long were they staring at each other? she felt her face growing warm.

"I was wondering what took you so long that I thought to come and see what's the problem. I thought you were lost but I see you were- in someone's eyes, " said Sofia, her eyes shining in amusement.

Oops, thought Alexa as she untangled herself from his embrace.

"What a warm welcome I get," he said, "You see mother, she just couldn't resist me. She just jumped into my arms out of nowhere."

Alexa felt herself grow warm with embarrassment, what a jerk, she thought angrily. "No, I didn't, you were the one who grabbed me."

"Oh please, babe, you don't need to lie. You even made a move on me yesterday. Mom knows that my charm is irresistible. And by the way," his eyes hardened, "what in the hell are you doing in my house?"

It was only then Alexa realized that her mouth was hanging open, I am going to kill him. She was going to come back with a sharp retort to wipe that smirk off his handsome face when Sofia intervened.

"So, Alexa, I guess you have met each other. This is my obnoxious elder one, Michael. And Michael this is Alexa Weinstein," she said, gazing at him so adoringly that it was hard for Alexa to keep looking at them without crying as Michael's eyebrows shot up as her name was said.

Why do they do that as if they know me? She thought.

"And she will help me with the chores. So, I want you to stop picking on her," she said and Alexa was suddenly grateful for her for not using the term 'maid'. It would have been too embarrassing to be the maid of him out of all the people.

"Okay, mommy, I'll try" he said, giving Sofia a hug and he went out without glancing back.

Alexa stared after him.

"Don't be angry at him, he's always like that at first. He's a good person," she said, her eyes filled with love.

Alexa suddenly realized her eyes getting moist. She turned around quickly hoping that Sofia didn't see her, but too late.

"Oh honey," she said and hugged Alexa. All these days without crying, trying to be strong for her own sake in a large unfamiliar world, she cried onto her shoulder as Sofia calmed her, "Now you have me, okay honey and by the way, I prefer you to stay here especially that you seem too down to stay on your own."

Alexa looked up, shocked, "No I can't possibly do that. You were so kind to me. I can't be a burden to you."

"You are not. Now, you are like a daughter I never had. You can have the guest room." She said kindly and took her hand. "Let me show you your room."

Sofia

My goodness, she thought, I can't believe an actual Weinstein is in our house. I really need to tell my husband that someone he knows is here - especially being his long-lost niece. She showed her room and Alexa's eyes widened in surprise as she looked around. Sofia chuckled.

Alexa

She was speechless. The room was breath-takingly beautiful. There was a balcony facing the woods just like in the master bedroom and the wallpaper was of a sunset in the beach with the bed facing the balcony. The bed covers were colour coordinated and matching. The floorboards were of thick polished wood, shining in the light, with a bright yellow carpet like the sunset.

She opened her mouth to protest but as she saw Sofia giving her a look that left no room for arguments, she shut up.

So far, she liked it here. Until she had enough money to leave this place, she would probably as well cherish the moment and love them back. Oh, how she missed the feeling.

Michael

What a small world we live in, he thought, she smelled kind of funny though, yet it didn't help him concentrate much. There was something about her that he couldn't quite place his finger. He never thought that he'd meet the attractive girl, cough, woman again. He was so into making her annoyed with him that he forgot to even ask her name.

His body ached from sleeping in the woods till sunrise only to be met by her in his own place. She was magnetic in an unsettling way. There was something that she's either not sharing with them or she didn't know about it.

She had all the things he looked for in a woman, curves in all the right places, not too fat or thin. She was gorgeous in a very enmity way, not the kind of beauty his own kind has but way more, in his opinion.

And most of all her name. That name felt so familiar. He got so angry for not remembering where he had heard it that he left the house for a run. It didn't help that all his pack members are looking up to him and though she was more than he'd expect her to be, if she turns out to be a threat, he would have to kill her.

Alexa Weinstein, the name kept repeating. Nice name for a nice-looking girl but who are you? I should ask mom and closely look her up, for all I know she might be a threat to my pack even if it means following her, not that I regret it, he thought, smirking.

After the run, he had a dip in the nearby lake and headed home and got the surprise in his life when he smelled his favourite dinner being cooked and thought about going and hugging his mother when he saw his 'woman' cooking. He inhaled deeply, the smell of the food and her smell mixed together wafted up to him.

"So, mom made you stay here huh?" He asked.

She gasped, dropping the spoon.

"Careful there."

"Oh yeah," she said, "you just sneak up to me and suddenly start talking and expects me to not me surprised? Who do you-" She stopped herself when she saw him grinning.

She sighed, "Why do you always annoy me?"

"You look more beautiful when you are annoyed," came the reply.

She looked at him, looking for any kind of humour in his eyes but all she saw was seriousness She couldn't help herself noticing how his muscles flexed as he crossed his arms, she blushed.

"So, my babies up to dinner?" asked his mom, as she came from the dining room.

"When did she become your baby?" he asked, annoyed, that's what mostly put their pack in danger, his mother was too kind that she'll probably even feed the enemies and give up their house as headquarters but you should also see when she's really furious. That's something his father is really proud of her.

His mother gave him a pointed look as he saw Alexa looking down and sensed her pain. Suddenly he felt ashamed of himself. He wanted to hit something for making her hurt. And at the same time, he wanted to find out the reason for her agony and pay the people who was responsible for it.

What is happening to me, he thought, no woman had ever made me regret anything I say or do, well except for my mom, while she is just a random person. I really need to talk with mom.
