Chapter 24 - Love-polluted Air

"Time's up, needy lovers. Get your a*s up, fool in love. We are leaving", Scarlett walked over to the couple, her arms crossed against her rib cage. The two broke the kiss, looking exasperatingly at the girl for disturbing their intimate moments. Didn't she feel remorse for interrupting them at the point where things would be expected to move to the next level? Not at all.

Though she had her car, Dylan would offer her a ride every time they would go out since they would be going to the same place. Having his friend horning in on his private space was what the boy got in return for offering rides. Could she at least wait for them to finish or stop what they were doing? Not in the least.

They weren't going to stop any time soon and if anything, they would definitely take it to a private room to finish it there. After all the running she had done a few minutes ago, she wasn't looking to sit outside the club at midnight and wait for a cab.

"Perfectly wrong timing, beautiful", fixing his air, Alex leaned back, giving Dylan some space to get up.

"I always have my wrong timings. You may ask, Dylan", she was always arriving late in Doctor's Gordon class, in high school but it wasn't only that. The professor would always show up late at parties and ceremonies.

Once she was invited by an international firm of academic affairs for an award. After calling her name on the stage, there was pin-drop silence after the big round of applause from all the guests. When the name was called for the third time, the doors of the hall swung open, the professor running down the stairs with a coat, struggling with the left sleeve to put it on.

Not that she didn't want to dress nicely and walk down the large stair steps instead of running, might have tripped on taking some large steps as the shoelaces weren't tied, she just forgot about the invitation while working on a project. Her life had always planned action entries for her.

"You really have some--", the unsaid words were stuck in his throat, refusing to roll off the tongue when his eyes fell on the glistening heart.

"Where did you get this necklace?", narrowing his eyes, he got up on his feet to take a close look at the necklace. She wasn't wearing it before. He didn't drink enough to have his mind imagining the things. And there was no way he wouldn't notice it if she was already wearing it after she walked in there with Dylan.

"Ed--", the girl opened her mouth only to be cut short by Alex.

"Silly me. You must have bought it from a shop. There could be two identical pieces", although the assumption that the girl just went out to buy it at that time of night didn't sound enough convincing, to him, it was better than thinking that it was the same piece that belonged to Edric.

"I didn't buy it. Edric gave it to me", Dylan also pushed himself off the couch and stood next to his friend.

"Edric? Edric Kent?", that was again stupid of him to inquire about it by using Edric's full name because there was only one Edric he knew there that owned the necklace. He just couldn't get his mind wrapped around it. Why did Edric give his mom's necklace to a girl he hadn't met long ago? He wouldn't let anyone touch it. Here, a girl, they got to know two days ago, was wearing it.

"I don't know his surname but if you mean that hot boy who was staring at me, then, yeah. He said I can keep it", Alex looked as if he was tongue-tied. That was impossible. Well, if he wasn't being overreactive, it was possible. But if Edric had given the necklace to this girl, did it mean exactly what he was thinking? Now, that was impossible.

"I see", he said, his gaze fixed at the heart. He would talk to Alex later for sure. Maybe he was overthinking.

"Well, we should get going now", Dylan's voice tore his intensified gape from the necklace as he looked at his boyfriend.

"Okay", bending forward, he pecked Dylan's lips.

"Seeing you tomorrow?", the girl smiled at Alex. He was elder than both of them. But right at the moment, he looked like a high school boy, asking his crush to meet again.

"I don't think I would make it. Exams are starting. I need to study", even though Dylan wanted to meet him, he couldn't risk his whole year's hard work for his heart that was flattering inside the chest.

The last two days, after his night with Alex, they almost talked all night. While doing an introductory session, Alex got to know that Dylan was a student. However, Dylan only told him the limited part of his life. He wouldn't ruin what they had by telling him that he was also a researcher. Well, he didn't doubt Alex's feelings for him but what if Alex would also see him as a bookworm? Anything could happen. He planned to tell him some other time when he would be sure of what they had wasn't temporary.

"Oh, I forgot I'm dating a student", chuckling, he leaned close to him and pecked his lips again, his lips staying there a bit longer than last time.

"In case I'm not going to see you tomorrow", Dylan wouldn't mind pouring a glass of ice-cold water over his head as he could feel himself burning. Scarlett standing next to him doubled the temperature of his body.

"Your ears are turning pink. Cute", if it was only his ears tinted, he was damn sure that the red colour would've started creeping up to his cheeks.

"I'll call you tomorrow", he shyly nodded.

"Let's go already. The air is love-polluted. I can't breathe anymore", wrapping her hand around Dylan's arm, the professor dragged him out, leaving Alex smiling alone to her comment.

"I shouldn't be surprised if Edric has fallen for you. But that's the thing here. He should not fall for you."
