Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"And we won't eat after that, Grace." Grace fell silent again. His body froze at his sister's words.

Yes... all this time, it was Korvin who had been the breadwinner of the house. After the money left by his parents completely ran out, and she—Grace, preferred to be late and too preoccupied with her stupid trauma.

Grace turned around. A faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She sat down, put down the toast and the half-boiled egg she had just fried.

"Yeah . . . yes, I'll get a job after this. Then you won't have to think about old geezer Egerton or your college fees, Korvy."

"Grace, listen..." Korvin wrapped his sister's face with his big hands, "I just want you to keep yourself busy with your work. Just a little work, Grace, you know... and that's fine with me. Really. Even your wedding expenses... I can handle everything."

"You are crazy!" Grace exclaimed, throwing a tissue paper at her brother.

"Why?"

"You've never thought about me up until now. Didn't think about any other woman out there for you to date. And you . . . said you wanted to finance my wedding? It should have been for you, Mr. Hester!"

"Shit! You rancid rat!" cursed Korvin. The two laughed together.

"Hello! Grace?" the voice came after an impatient knock on the door.

Grace looked into Korvin's face. But, her brother just shrugged and then returned to enjoying her simple breakfast.

Grace rose from her seat. She opened the blue door of her house to see who was outside. Her eyes widened when she saw who it was. A woman her age with a flashy miniskirt and bandana as her trademark. Yes... Leoni Corvin, Grace's best friend.

"You didn't hug me, Grace?" asked Leoni. Grace smiled then embraced the tiny body in front of her. Soon, the two entered while hugging themselves due to the cold gust of wind.

"What are you doing here, Leon? Shouldn't you be at work right now?"

"Come on, Grace . . . you're having a job interview in Blackpool. And I'll drive you there."

"Really?" Grace yelled in disbelief.

Leoni nodded. Then she sat down next to Korvin. Her brown eyes looked at Korvin, half teasingly Leoni winked.

"Hey, my future boyfriend," Leoni said, pointing her chin at Korvin. She reached for the bread that was on the plate, then spread it with chocolate jam.

"Tch!" snorted Korvin. Grace glared. But Korvin ignored her. She grabbed the backpack that was on her bed and walked away.

"Good luck, Grace... I'll always have your back. And... make sure this crazy woman gets out of my house," he snorted.

Korvin left behind the blue door. Meanwhile, Leoni just rolled her eyes at Korvin's harsh words.

"Maybe... he'll become a saint," Leoni chimed in, "you know, Grace... it's not normal for a guy in his 20s if he hasn't dated at all. Looks like Korvy is helpless."

"Come on, Leon...are you kidding, hm? He's my only brother and you swear at him like that." Grace reached for her towel. She went into the bathroom for a moment, then came out.

"He resisted my charms, that's all that matters, Grace! How can he resist the charms of a woman with a chest like this?!" Leoni exclaimed, still in disbelief.

Grace looked at Leoni's ample chest. Then she shook her head. She was ignoring her friend's strange remarks.

"So, when will the interview take place?"

"3:00 p.m."

Leoni looked at the watch in her hand then she nodded.

"Hopefully we're not late, Grace."

"Yeah, I hope so too. Considering the four-plus hour drive there."

"And if you know about this matter, why are you still taking your sweet time in the morning?" Grace was silent, and she smiled wryly at Leoni's question.

"Where will the interview be? Is it a family that has a big house, Grace?"

"Yes, like that." Grace replied curtly.

"Kyle's family?" guess Leoni. And, suddenly, Grace's body froze.

Yes, Kyle. He seemed reluctant. But Korvin kept reassuring her that this Kyle is not the Kyle from his past. Grace knows... Kyle's name goes a long way in England. And he always tried to think like that. It's just the city... still, that name made Grace shiver.

"The Kyle family is very kind, Grace... although I only heard about it through rumors. But, the noble family is not only rich. The good behavior of the Kyle couple makes anyone want to work there. If you get a special call from that family. Trust me, many people will envy you."

"Is... the Kyle family really that great?"

"Yes, of course! The Kyle family is a respectable family, even though they live in such a small town. In fact, country celebrities often estimate their wealth, Grace! They are very rich!"

"Oh...."

"And I hear the Kyles have a very . . . handsome grandson."

"Oh..." Grace said again.

She buttoned her shirt, then put on her black thigh-length skirt. No, it's not her. But Leoni's, which she borrowed a few days ago. A very tight dress on Grace's body.

"Aren't you curious about Kyle's heir, Grace?"

"No."

"Oh my God, Grace! In your 23 years of your life you haven't dated any man and you're not interested in men. Could it be... you and Korvin are in a relationship? Like—"

"Shut up Leon before I shut your mouth! Now, let's hit the road before I'm late."

Leoni laughed. She immediately pulled Grace's body out. Grace tried to put on a coat so that she wouldn't catch a cold on the way to Kyle's house.

At first, Grace didn't know either. Leoni secretly listed her at a job fair. And, not very long after that, a call came to Grace. Just one, and it was a call from the Kyle household.

The family offered her a reasonably modest job, she said. And Grace didn't understand why it had to be her. Or, have several prospective workers received the same offer as her? Ah... Grace doesn't want to bother. As long as she got the money to help Korvin, there would be no problem. She was willing to work anywhere.
