Chapter 6 - Catch the Rabbit (Erin)

She smelled of whiskey and cigarettes.

Her lips tasted like every other woman in the club. It hadn't bothered me before. But I couldn't shake off the flowery scent Bonnie emitted earlier. She smelled clean. Sweet.

I wanted a taste of that.

"Erin," Linda moaned under me. Submitting to my hands as they traveled over her stomach. "Don't tease me."

I sucked on her neck, glossed with sweat. Her amber curls tickled my cheeks, blinding me as I buried myself in the crook of her neck.

But my mind was absorbed by the memory of milky-blonde hair and ocean eyes.

"I think you'd still look beautiful without the facade."

I pulled away.

"What's wrong?" Linda cupped my cheeks.

Defeated by unsatiated desire, I removed her hands and sat up to snatch my top off the floor. "I got to go."

Linda jolted upright, "What?"

"I'm just not into it." I got back on my feet and headed for the door. "Maybe another time," I flashed her a gun with my hand and a subtle wink, but she only glared at me with red cheeks.

"You little brat, you promised we'd—"

I raced down the hall. This was probably a stupid move, but I didn't have all that much to lose.

Well, besides getting laid. But even that wasn't completely off the table.

"Woah, woah, woah," An arm caught me on the way out of the club. I glanced back, Nate had me by the wrist. "Where you off to, rugrat?"

"Trying to catch a white rabbit," I shook him off.

"Huh?" He yelled, but I wasted no time explaining. I'd already wasted too much time letting her get away. The chances of me finding her were already slim to none.

I grabbed my coat from behind the bar and stormed out of the club. A line of women cheered for my attention. I tried to be polite, smiling as I ran until they were completely out of range.

"Bonnie!" I called out her name like an idiot. Throughout the street, I kept calling. Hoping she'd call back to me.

After ten minutes, my hope was crushed.

"What the hell am I doing?" I whispered at the end of the street. The chances of me running into her were long gone by then. She had probably caught a ride home on the bus. Either that, or she was an incredibly fast walker. Which, given her petite frame, might have been completely plausible.

Snow fell slowly on the city.

I stuffed my hands into my jacket pockets and accepted defeat.

It was time to head back.

"No, no, please…" My ears caught the distant cry of a girl. Her voice echoed from behind a building, beside the corner shop. I followed it into an alleyway.

"C'mon, kiddo. Do it if you know what's good for you." A man threatened. He was blocking someone behind a dumpster, cornering a young girl.

"Please, sir! I don't want to do this!" She begged. He pointed something at her. It gleamed like silver.

A knife.

I didn't want to get involved. I probably would've kept on walking too, had I not noticed the top of her head. Milky blonde hair peeking behind the dumpster.

I reached for my phone, pressed 1 for speed dial and held it up at eye length. "Hey!"

The man whipped around.

"You got about two minutes before the cops get here." I lied, smirking at his bewildered face. "Suggest you scram fast."

"Tch," he stuffed his knife into his jacket pocket and rushed toward me. I kept my phone up, showing off the screen that read narc on it before he rammed his shoulder into me.

"Erin!" Bonnie cried out as I crashed into a brick wall, face-first. My cell dropped and skidded across the ground.

The man raced to escape.

"Oh my gosh," Bonnie rushed over to me. Her pale blue eyes were glossed with tears. "Your face," she whispered with hands hovering over my cheeks. "Are you okay?" She asked, snot dripping from her tiny button nose.

"You look ridiculous." I chuckled before dropping on my bottom.

Her faced contorted angrily. "This isn't the time to be funny."

I dabbed my cheek and winced. My fingers were blotched with blood. She was right. This was serious.

But…

"You really think I'm funny?" I wiggled my brows.

She gawked at me, shocked before she huffed out a laugh.

Her smile was gorgeous. I noticed it the other night too, when she stood front row at my show. It only happened once and it was quick, but I really wanted to see it again. I wanted to see her again. The awkward, white rabbit who had paid a visit to a new spot in town.

When I saw her early morning, racing down the street, I had to chase after her. I had to know her, even if it only came down to a quick conversation and nothing more.

At least, that's what I initially told myself.

"Mind if we stop by the pharmacy?" I asked. She nodded, helping me up with an arm around my waist.

She really wasn't like all the other girls at the club. She was too clean. Too pure. Too innocent. Like a little white rabbit who had yet to be caught. The kind who likes to lead others astray, into a completely new world. The type you couldn't tame.

That's what made her all the more tempting.
