Chereads / Reborn As An A.I. With A System / Chapter 5 - New Legs

Chapter 5 - New Legs

"Now, this is very strange. Aiu to think there would be a day when I would be holding my own eyeball and looking inside my own body with it. Luckily there is just enough extra wire. Otherwise, I would be screwed." Eve did not know what she would do if she was stuck trying to look at her reflection to try to rig up the wiring that was disconnected.

"From the analysis that I just ran from what you are seeing, the sides are singed, and the wires have been melted. Eve, I believe this was done by some kind of high-temperature laser." Aiu was only basing her claim on the way things looked. Part of the chest frame had melted along with the insides as well. Only a high-temperature laser would be able to do this at such a high precision unless it was some kind of molten rod that fell on the body just right.

"Yeah, I think it is the same, but to have such a big wound would require at least a military-grade laser. Aiu, I am not so sure we are in the same timeline as the one when we died. During our time when A.I. was really kicking off, the military had yet to have a functioning laser that could produce much damage unless this body was used for testing. Which I highly doubt. If you add in the head damage, this body was really put through the wringer. To be honest, I have no idea how I am even functioning with the brain of this body being fully exposed and partially missing." Eve moved her eye to look at the top of her head. It also had partial melting and looked to have been blown off.

"Anyway, for the wiring in the chest, I just need to do some small fixes, and I can hook my waist back up. Luckily wire is the last thing I am short on." Eve leaned over and ripped out some wire from the robot next to her and went right to work. She could only twist the wires together and wrap it with sliced insulation from another wire for the time being. And so that it would not pull apart, she made sure there was enough slack giving it some play in case the wire gets tugged.

In no time at all, she had already connected up the broken wires, and her diagnostics program was now showing her waist in working order. "Now to check the leg sockets..." Eve bent over and began doing movements as if she had legs. The sockets on her waist rotated accordingly. Even the last bit of her left leg was moving correctly. Seeing this, she shoved her eye back into her head and pulled what was left of her left leg off, and turned her attention to the legs on the robot next to her.

"Aiu, wish me luck!" Eve could only hope this would work. As such, she was a little nervous. She reached over and pushed the release lock on the leg, and pulled it out of its socket. After examining the socket on the other leg, she smiled because it was indeed identical. With a wave of relief sweeping over her, she secured the leg to her waist sockets and did the same with the other leg.

"Eve, take it slow before standing up just in case," Aiu warned. She did not want Eve getting too excited and end up blowing something by accident.

"I know." Eve slowly bent her new legs in and slowly stood up. She was a little unstable at first because it felt weird not being able to feel the ground underfoot, but once she stabilized, she was now standing right side up without issue. "Not bad. These legs have a little rust on them, but they are still very sturdy. I will just need to do some minor maintenance on them in the future."

She looked up at her diagnostics and smiled when she saw all was green. "Besides my left arm and my head, it seems the rest is in working order. Aiu, while we are here, let's take a look around for some parts and see if we can get some upgrades too if we can."

"I was just about to suggest that. If we can get the parts for your arm and hand, or maybe even replacements, that would be for the best. But we will need to figure out how to replace your main chest frame with how damaged it is..." Aiu was worried with how Eve's chest was broken as it was that something else might break if they were not careful.

"Well, the overall structure of the frame is pretty strong, so I will not do much with it for now. What bothered me is the socket for the left arm. It seems to be damaged. I might have to replace the whole thing, but doing it by myself may be difficult. We will need proper tools for that. For now, let's just look for parts and see what we can find. I do not want to spend too much time here." Eve knew this place was a gold mine for free parts, but most were damaged goods. She got lucky with the legs, but the rest of the robot she got the legs from was pretty battered up. The same goes for almost all of the robots here, including herself.

She could tell that this place was meant for destroyed and stripped-down robots. Where they all came from was another story. But some of them looked to have been here a long, long time. "I guess I should find something I can use to carry parts in for the time being."

"You can just rip the chest cage off any of those industrial bots. They seemed to be just right for a metal basket." Aiu suggested.

"Then we will go with that. We need to keep an eye out for another eye, some smaller hydraulics for my hands. I think with the right tools, I can at least get the broken fingers working properly again. I will worry about my left arm socket later." Eve did as Aiu suggested and ripped a chest cover off one of the industrial robots which worked as a basket as she began her search for some spare parts. This was also a good way to get used to her new legs and the fact that she can not feel the ground underfoot.
