Chapter 6 - Escaping The Reclamation Facility Part 1

"I think that's it. I got six eyes, five mini hydraulics, some servos, and some spare fingers that might fit. A couple of replacement hands just in case and snap-on heat shield cover for my chest, which was a lucky find and this knife… It seemed to have been overlooked when they were stripping down one of the robots. But this is a military-grade knife. It attaches to the wrist, and if connected, with a bit of proper coding, I can make it extend when I need it and retract when I do not." Eve was speaking her thoughts out loud like she normally did back when she was in her office. She did this when she was working on things because Aiu would take down notes for her and help her remember key points. She had a bad habit of not writing things down as she went.

"We should try to leave as soon as possible." Aiu felt that sticking around too much longer would be bad. The moon was already past its highest point, which meant that morning time would be coming soon.

"Then we should hurry! But which way is the exit..." Eve scanned her surroundings. She could see a high metal wall surrounding this place. "Over there. I see a ladder we can climb up from there."

"Eve, be careful. We do not know what kind of technology they might have. There could be security all over the place once we reach the wall." Aiu reminded. She did not want Eve to accidentally set off a sensor of some kind, alerting whoever was in charge that they were here. If they were caught, she felt something bad would happen.

"Don't worry, I know." Eve scanned the area and spotted the most stable spots to use as footholds, and began sprinting through the rubble. The new legs she equipped were amazingly strong. She had tripped a few times and was afraid they would break, but they held up well. The structure was very solid, with some heavy metal plating as a frame. She came to the conclusion that her original assumption that the robot she got them from was military-grade, was correct.

Eve made her way across the hills of stacked robots. After about an hour of struggling to get to the wall, she finally got to the hill close to it before coming to a stop. She looked up at the top of the wall scanning everything near the ladder to see if there were any sensors anywhere. "Aiu, what do you think? I am not picking anything up."

"Unless it is hidden from our ability to detect it, we should be okay. But move with caution. We do not know what is in store for us." While Eve was busy searching for treasure, Aiu had been keeping an eye on the horizon. While this area was clear of clouds off in the distance, the clouds were thick, and they were not storm clouds but smoke clouds. There were also many flashes of light off in the distance as well. She had a feeling that even if this was the world, they once lived in, that it was nothing like it used to be.

"We can only find out. I mean, what is the worst that can happen? We die? I was already blown up once. What point is there in worrying about the small stuff?" Eve did not want to die again, but she was not as scared of death as she was when she was in her human body. She was now free from the confines of a body that was bound to perish.

With Aiu's warning in mind, she slowly made her way over to the wall where the ladder was. The ladder was actually a good twenty meters off the ground, but with her new legs, this was no issue. She had already tested her jumping ability a while ago, and it was beyond what she had expected. She secured her metal basket to her back with wire to get ready for her jump.

She got a running start and kicked her toe into the wall, making a dent to use as a foothold allowing her to thrust herself up into the air. She reached up with her right hand and grabbed hold of the ladder. She then pulled herself up and began climbing to the top. One step at a time, she climbed up what seemed to be two hundred meters before reaching the top. She looked up over the edge and looked to her left and right. Only when she did not see a single soul or heat signature did she pull herself up on top of the wall.

It was there that she could finally see farther off into the distance. If she had normal eyes, they would go wide with shock. There was a single bridge leading out from the reclamation facility that seemed to be surrounded by water, leading to what looked to be a city at some point. But now, it was nothing but ruins. Off on the other side of the bridge, she could see that there seemed to be some kind of guard station and humans with advanced-looking weapons. "Aiu, I think getting out of here will be much harder than we thought..."

"I also feel if we get caught, we might get destroyed." Aiu also had a bad feeling about their current situation. "If I am not wrong, I think with all the clues we have at this time that robots and humans might be at war."

"Hmmm… Is that why I was asked those three questions?" Eve frowned inwardly. She remembered the questions she was asked. It seemed it had something to do with the current situation of the world.

"What questions?" Aiu asked out of curiosity.

"I was asked three questions while I was coming to, by some weird voice. It asked if I sided with humans, A.I., or if I was undecided. Since it was confusing and I was just coming to, I said undecided since, to be honest, I do not know who is better… I mean, my death may be due to my own kind after all. Forget it, for now, let's figure out how we can get out of this place in one piece or pieces as long as we can escape alive." Eve was still in the mood to joke, which showed just how carefree she was being, but in truth, she was scanning every centimeter of the wall in front of her. She did not dare to be careless.
