Chapter 4 - The wanderer reaches borken

JUNE 27. 3567

I wake up in the morning and decided to cook breakfast for both of us.

When I took a look at where he's sleeping, I confirmed that he was still asleep so I decided to take a shower first before eating breakfast.

And when I finished showering, It seems he's already woken up.

It seems that I was too used to being alone since I didn't bring any towel with me and he saw my body.

But when he look at my body he didn't even flinch, he just looked away and said 'Morning'

"That's all your gonna say after seeing my body?"

"Would you rather that I did the opposite?"

"But your lower half is saying otherwise"

"I would be worried if my body didn't react in such a way"

"Besides I prefer women with flatter chests since they- please stop choking me"

'This rude guy!!'

I internally screamed to myself.

But we're not making any progress so I decided to end the conversation there and eat our food.

After eating our food, I wore my usual back coat and put my weapons besides my waist, and she decided to wear a black cloak with her usual short-sleeved and pants combo.

We headed northeast to find the city of Borken.

About 30 minutes into our journey and we already met an obstacle in a form of 5 mulcurt, without saying anything, Cynthia headed for the trees stealthfully and I unsheathed my single-edged sword that was shaped like a katana with no guard made out of blood-tungsten.

I threw a small rock to one of the mulcurt, getting the attention of three of them while the other two had their backs exposed.

I took a heavy swing at one of the back of the mulcurt and while the other one tried to smash me, It seems that Cynthia shot it at the head of its head.

Then she shot one of the mulcurt at the legs that were approaching me and I decided to do a diagonal slash and decapitated his head.

The other two were fast approaching me, Cynthia shot the nearest one near me in the head and I used its dead body as cover to attack the other one.

However, it was able to dodge my attack last second and I was only able to inflict a shallow wound onto its chest.

I stared down at the last mulcurt and I sheathed my weapon then lowered my body into a fighting stance determined to end it with one slash.

When it tried to run at me, I took a deep breath and smoothly drew my sword and slash it in one smooth motion cutting the hand that was trying to smash me then I took advantage of its shock and swiftly stab its throat.

After the battle, I was panting heavily, It seems that the heaviness of my weapon was still affecting how I fight

"We should get you a new weapon, that one is way too heavy for you"

"I'll pass on that, this weapon is more than just a mere sword"

"Your choice then"

After catching my breath, we continued our journey to the city of borken and occasionally encountering mulcurts on the way, although I did notice that I was getting used to my weapon due to back-to-back battles with multiple mulcurt until evening.

After setting down camp we talked for a bit before going to sleep

"I've been thinking this for a while but why did you aim your rifle at me when you were questioning me?"

"It's because of portal magic"

"Portal magic?"

"It's a different type of space magic where it creates a space between your location and the location that you desired"

"For security reasons, it's been banned internationally since using it can grant you easy access to many cities and using it was an immediate execution"

"I aim my rifle at you to know whether you were the one that cast it since every territory has a mage that detects such magic and I did not want to be executed"

"I see..."

And that was the last thing I remembered before falling asleep.

JUNE 28. 3567

When morning came, we swiftly continued our way to borken, and we were starting to pass other travelers but they were all looking at me weirdly, I wonder why?

But not so long we also arrive at the gate of borken, when the guards spotted us the same thing happened to me again, they were all looking at me weirdly too.

After entering the city of borken, I started asking why they're looking at me weirdly

"Hey, Cynthia...is it just me, or is everyone here staring at me?"

"Probably because there almost no human who comes here in the last...I dunno 100 years ago?"

"And humans have been getting discriminated ever since the war between our sides"

"Really? why's that?"

"Well...every race notice that your side had only humans fighting in it and when the peace treaty was being made not everyone was exactly happy about it"

"And they had to put their anger somewhere and so, naturally the human in this side received it"

"And ever since then, the humans hated every other race and in turn the other race hated humans..."

"...The only reason they haven't killed each other yet was that gods favored them heavily since they worship just about anything and the other races were afraid of divine retribution or something..."

"And..."

"...But said god can only govern a certain amount of territory before the other god's territory overlap with his and since you in the middle of the elven land, the god cant protect you..."

"So you're telling that the reason that there staring was not that there curious but because they thinking about doing bad things to me?"

"Yes...but don't worry they won't be laying a hand on you as long as your with me"

"That's reassuring..."

"Well whatever, there's the adventurers guild lets hurry up and get you registered so you have at least a way to identify yourselves"

As she said that a 4 story building was starting to loom in the distance.

When we entered the building, I got the same stares as before however I tried to ignore all of them and follow Cynthia to the counter

"𝑨𝒉! 𝑴𝒓𝒔. 𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒊𝒕'𝒔 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆?"

Although I couldn't understand what she's saying, the middle-aged elf said it happily however I could sense a bit of malicious intent behind her word

"𝑯𝒖𝒈𝒐 𝑨𝒖𝒄𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒓, 𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒆, 𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅"

"𝑾𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕'𝒔 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒉𝒆'𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒐𝒌𝒂𝒚 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅?"

"𝑯𝒆'𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏'𝒕 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔, 𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎"

"𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏'𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒖𝒂𝒈𝒆"

"𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒎"

As she stopped speaking Cynthia turned to me

"Hugo, tell me your name, age, date of birth, and your signature here"

As I tell her my information, I start to wonder how she could understand me

"By the way, how did you understand when we first met?"

"I was given a translation ring by the adventurers guild as a starter pack"

"The ring can translate any language except god-speak and dragon tongue"

"God-speak can only be understood by the pope however no mortal has ever been able to speak a word of it while the dragon tongue will kill you if your not a dragon"

When she finishing writing the document, the receptionist took the paper and left then came back with a green metallic card and two rings.

When I wore the two rings, I suddenly heard many voices around the guild

"Could you understand me now?"

"Ohh! umm...yes"

"Then I guess I'll explain the card and the other ring"

"In summary, the ring is called a 'coin ring' since its a ring that stores your money using space magic and the card will be both your id and your adventurer's card"

"As long as you have that card, you can take quest from that billboard and be rewarded by finishing the quest"

"However it's still incomplete since we only manage to write down your stats but we haven't discovered your magic expertise yet so please come back tomorrow "

"I see...thank you"

"Your welcome, human!"

Then we left the guild and started looking for an inn since it was starting to get dark.

We eventually found an inn and I went and talked to the receptionist

"Welcome to our inn Mrs. Galeward! how may I help you and that dear human today?"

"We need 1 one room for the both of us"

"I see...but please keep in mind that our walls are a bit thin"

She said seriously

"Such activities won't be happening"

"Such activities won't be happening"

We calmly said at the same time

"O-oh I thought you were some sort of slave that was about to do some unsightly activities, I'm sorry dear human for assuming such a thing"

She said, however, it seems she didn't truly mean it

"I-it's fine"

After a deadpan Cynthia paid for the room, we both went to our room

"Your sleeping on the floor"

"Understandable"

When I laid down on the floor, I thought about what to do after finished her business tomorrow

'I don't want to do any of the quests on the guild since it's basically similar to my old hunter job but what should I do?'

'I don't know where I should go'

As I was deep in thought wondering what to do next, I eventually fall asleep before I could reach a conclusion.
