'Half-elves is a sin'
Those were the last words I've heard before I left my hometown.
To this day, I hated that town, but I also couldn't.
That place was full of happy memories from my mother and the last time I saw her smile.
"Mother...please mother doesn't die!"
"Well...that's a bit selfish Cynthia, I'm dying"
"Mother!"
"Cynthia...my rifle...take it...protect not this town but yourself"
"Mother?"
"This town hated us for a long time now...the reason that we weren't harmed up until now was...because of my contract with them"
"But now it seems contract has been broken...Cynthia leave this town and never come back for revenge"
"Although this town is the most despicable town there is...this place was also the place where I was the happiest"
"Go, Cynthia"
As my mother said that a loud knock was heard from the door
"Go"
She said with a smile.
I grabbed the rifle and got out of our house using the small window in our kitchen.
While I was running I heard multiple abrupt footsteps then one they said it
"Half-elves are a sin'
Then a loud bang resounded in our house.
When I heard the loud sound, tears started dripping but I didn't cry, I couldn't or else I would be chased too.
I always wondered why I was never allowed to leave the house, why I was always forced to hide whenever somebody shows up.
I guess they knew this was inevitable.
JUNE 29. 3567
When I woke up with the sun shining on me.
I noticed my pillow was wet from my tears and it seems he gave his blanket and left the room.
After putting my cloak on and putting my rifle beside me, I left the room and found him waiting by the door
"Good morning"
"Hu...Hugo"
"It's about time we left and head for the adventurers guild right?"
"Huh? oh yes..."
"Let's go then"
In the end, he didn't say nor ask anything about it.
I internally thanked him for not only giving me space but also not prying about my past.

We left the inn and made our way back to the adventurers guild, this time leading her.
It seemed she was still bothered about her dream.
I pretended to not have noticed anything and didn't pry anything about her dream, I knew she was deeply hurt and I could understand her pain.
However, the difference between us was that she was able to let out her feelings no matter ugly it is, while I stood there, no expression on my face didn't even let out tear.
I didn't even attend his funeral and instead, I immediately made my way here.
When we arrived at the guild, as always I was bombarded with a lot of stares but as always, I ignored them all and made my way to the receptionist.
"Ah! right on time human, I already reserved a small room to find out your magic expertise"
She was straight to the point.
After nodding we made our way into the second floor and entered a small room.
On the small table in the center of the room was an orb.
"This orb contains a light amount of holy magic since expertise and proficiency are blessings from the gods, the holy magic in this orb is proficient enough to tell us your blessings"
If I remember correctly, the bishops of every religion in my world always had expertise in holy magic.
Excluding the pope, bishops spend half of their time blessing items with holy magic
It was said that holy items, especially weapons were effective against a demonic creature.
Demonic creatures are birth from a large amount of negative feelings from humanity and in this era, many of us are always produce negative energy making demonic creatures the most common creatures to kill as request by the guild.
"Just let that orb observe your mana for a few seconds and I'll tell you the results"
"Got it"
I touch the orb with my finger then suddenly I was felt a bit dizzy but after removing my finger from the orb, I started regaining my focus.
"Well that surprising, I didn't expect you to have expertise at this'
"What magic is it?"
"Illusion magic"
'Illusion magic huh?'
I barely have any knowledge about it but I believe this magic was banned internationally since spies from other countries can easily infiltrate government buildings and such
"I see, then how do I use it"
"I'm quite surprised that a swordsman like you isn't displeased right now since it's not a combat magic"
"If I were mad, I wouldn't even show it but also, my world banned the magic for international reasons"
"Really? Illusion magic takes a lot of focus and mana depending on the size of it to put up"
"The spies in our world are simply trained at being focus all the time"
"I see...well to use your illusion magic, you just have to imagine the illusion then using your mana, make a projection of it in the real world"
After nodding I closed my eye and imagine a familiar place, Cynthia's cabin or more specifically the living room.
Following her instructions, I imagine a really detailed illusion of Cynthia's living room then use my mana to turn the entire small room that I'm in into the illusion that I imagine
"Wha!"
"Oh my!"
However, in hopes of lifting her mood or at least changing it, I included a detailed illusion of Cynthia's naked body in the middle of the room, and then my cheek met Cynthia's fist
After seeing her pissed-off face, I couldn't help but lightly smile.
But it seems she caught on to my intention and looks away more pissed-off.
After the two calmed down, The smiling elf talk to Cynthia
"Mrs. Galeward, helping this human get an id was not the only thing you came here for right?"
"Yes"
"Then if possible may we buy those mulcurt souls for double the price"
"And in return?"
"Mrs. Galeward you caught on quickly"
"The guild has a request for you Mrs. Galeward"
"A request?"
"Yes, A Denovin has been discovered near the town of Netherlin"
"What! Netherlin?"
"Yes for 2 months we've been sending a lot of E-rank adventurers to slay the creature however none of them have returned"
"Mrs. Galeward, although you took any quest on this guild, the amount of mulcurt that you can kill per week for 6 years has estimated that you are as good as a B-rank adventurer just by those kills alone"
"Please Mrs. Galeward, more and more adventurers die every day because of that creature, of course, we'll reward you not just for the mulcurt souls but also for the quest completion"
"I...alright..."
Although she says, I can see she doesn't want to do this.
After telling us the details of the quest, we promptly leave room
"Hugo, this is where we part ways, as you heard the guild has requested me to do this quest so I can only accompany you a small distance away from the forest, I hope you could find your purpose"
"You really are a pushover"
"Wha"
"Yeah no...I'm coming with you"
"Eh? why?"
"You don't like that place right, chances are you probably just gonna shoot anyone who slight pissed you off so somebody needs to keep an eye on you"
"You son of a-"
"Besides, I'm not gonna find my purpose just by getting lost in the forest so I'll be following for a while and who knows maybe a life-threatening quest could help me find it"
"Are you a dumbass?"
"Maybe, but at least I'm not a pushover"
"Youuuuuu"
"And your marksman arent you? you'll need a cannon fodder"
"I...fine only for this quest"
"No promises"
"What do you mean by that!?"
Our destination my clear, Go to Netherlin and find and kill the creature known as 'Denovin'
I do not know what will happen there but I'm risking my life in hopes of finding my purpose there.
