Chapter 6 - Ancestry

I woke up after my life changing events and you could tell I didn't sleep well. I had bags under my eyes and I was wearing my clothes from the day before. "Here's to another day in paradise" I said sarcastically as I changed into clean sweats and a hoodie. It's rainy outside and it's perfect for lounging clothes. I didn't want to go down for breakfast just yet and I headed over to my Bay window and stared at the rain. I didn't even realize I started to cry. I'm so confused, scared and excited by everything. What else do I not know about? After wiping away my tears I decide I will put on a brave face and go face my parents. I storm out of my room and like every day before I reach the last step my mother calls out "grab a plate honey, eat while it's still hot". Another predictable morning? When I entered the kitchen, for the 1st time since I lived here I saw a sight I've never seen before. My dad looks like he hasn't slept in day, and looks a mess and is still in his pajamas holding a cup of coffee sitting at the counter. My mom looks similar and is sitting next to him holding her cup of coffee. My mother's eyes were puffy and you can tell she had been crying. To break the ice I say to them, "Who died". They both look up at me and my Mother starts to burst out in tears and my dad gives her a sympathetic look and then turns his attention to me. "No one died, your mother is just extra emotional. It's been a really ground breaking 24 hours and we just have a lot of emotions to sort through, just like you do". "Well let's eat, we can't have a family crisis on an empty stomach now can we?" giving them a sly grin. They both finally chuckle and losen up a bit. Dealing with this is hard enough, I can't have my parents falling apart too. While eating I start to ask my dad a million questions. "Dad, what do you mean by you were searching for me from the day after I was born?". "Well, the day after you were born, the uprising happened and your parent were trying to protect you. With your birth mothers dying wish she ordered her most trusted advisor; Olivia, to get you to safety. Olivia snuck you out of the manor and ran to get you to safety. We had no idea where she had taken you, we were fighting the war. On her way back to the manor she was killed by a rival, leaving your location a mystery". I thought on his words. "Why would anyone go to such lengths to kill our descendants, let alone me?" I replied. My mother spoke first. "The Raven Blood Cresent Pack, is the highest lineage of wolves. One descendant is destined to be the true leader of the wolves. It's similar to kings and queens, however we rule over territories. Ours just happens to be the biggest accumulation of territory. We have long gotten rid of kings and queens ruling. Our bloodline is the closest thing to royalty and our leaders are among the strongest wolves that have ever lived". I was stunned by this information. How could I not know about any of this. I never felt different from normal humans. "How do you know I am the rightful heir?" I asked them. They were quiet for a few seconds as to collect their thoughts. My dad finally looked at me and said "The heir will have a birthmark some where on their body that identifies them as the rightful leader, your parents announced at your birth that the moon goddess blessed them with the true descendant of the pack". My eyes grew wide, I was so surprised I started to cry again, when I told myself I would be strong. I feel so silly crying over things I know little about. I lifted my shirt, "Is this the mark?". My mother started to cry and my dad was visibly upset. "Thank the moon goddess" she said. "You're not upset?" I asked. "Heavens no! my mom said these are tears of joy". "I'm not upset, I'm just worried about what's to come" my dad said grimly. "I have to ask, why is the pack called Raven Blood Cresent?". "Well, the first Spirit wolf that lead the pack was named Raven Blood. So, naturally the Alpha; Liam named the pack after his Spirit wolf. Legend also has it that, the true heirs birthmark turns Blood red after their first shift. Some of the heirs also take on other traits like; Red hair, red wolves, red eyes ect." My mom stated. Lost in her words, I think back to my usual red hair. "Is my hair color one of those traits? I've seen your wolves and they were red, so doesn't that debunk the legend?" I said. My parents chuckled nervously. "To be perfectly honest with you sweetheart, we don't know for sure. Once, you shift it becomes clear. Every Alpha and Spirit wolf is different, and considering we have been without a true royal Alpha for quite some time, there's no telling what you will be like until your shift" my dad replied. "Weren't my parents true Alpha leaders?" I asked. "Well, your mother was apart of the lineage, but she was a twin and her twin brother passed away a few days after birth, we aren't sure what happened, but your mother never obtained a Spirit wolf, she couldn't even shift. She had wolf senses but we think her twin passing is what caused the connection to break. Twin wolves, let alone royal wolves is extremely rare. If one passes away, it usually never goes well", my mother replied. "Oh no" I cried out with tears streaming down my face. "That's absolutely horrible" I finished. "Since your mother found her true mate, she managed well. When 2 wolves connect and become one soul, you become stronger in all ways" stated my mother. "Mate?" I asked confused. "Emma is my true mate, when you run into your mate your wolves know and you will have to complete the mating ritual" Ethan stated. "Theres another things that happen as well, you can mind link and your secual desire goes haywire until your with one another" Emma continued on. "That's gross, I'd become ruled by love and desire?" Dahlia said with annoyance with her face. "It's more complicated then that, finish your breakfast we have a busy day" my father stated. Giving him a frown I stared at my plate and kept thinking about everything they said. After taking bite after bite, I thought to myself. "Who knew wolf ancestry could be so complicated. I am glad to hear more about my parents, but since I never knew them, they were always strangers to me. This new information just makes them seem even more strangers to me". I better finish up and eat my dad said we have a busy day lord knows what he meant. Oddly enough, I'm not so scared and confused anymore. I might as well embrace my ancestry, it's not like I have a choice anyways.
