Chereads / Living Hell!!!(Drop) / Chapter 13 - River of Blood

Chapter 13 - River of Blood

A day has passed since I got Crimson Light, and what can I say? The great sword is something else. While I haven't killed anyone yet with this beauty, I have gotten more of an urge from inside to do so. Sigh! Why can't you find demons when you want to find them? I've walked for what I've estimated to be 100 km and for some goddamn reason I haven't met any living thing.

It feels like the world has gotten bigger. I know for sure that when the Earth was normal, there would be houses and people lurking around these parts. Now they're nowhere to be found. Did everyone die during the disaster two days ago? I know most people are weak and pathetic, but they have the power of cards to help them survive. Wait? Don't tell me that some humans are so garbage that they don't even know how to utilize the card gifted to them for protection. That reminds me, when was the last time I spoke to someone outside of the military? Did my standard of human quality turn into a soldier's standard?

Whatever it doesn't matter, does it? I am no longer human. I am a demon. The me now is much more superior than the me then. Well, enough of that self reflection, time to find some demons or humans to test Crimson Light on.

Three days have passed since that day, and I still couldn't find any life in sight. It's like the world has turned into a ghost town. I swear I have crossed about 400 km in distance and still couldn't find a single soul. Now I am beginning to believe the Earth have expanded hypothesis that I proposed. There's no way in hell that after traversing 400km of distance, I couldn't find a single soul. At this point, I have little hope of finding someone in the next few weeks.

However, something cool happened. My great sword started to glow much more than it normally does. When that happened, I somehow got an instinct inside of me saying to go west. At first I was questioning it, but as I traveled that way, I started to hear footsteps. Quickly, I sprinted toward the sound, and lo and behold, there was a human settlement in front of me. When I arrive, many of them glance at me before turning pale instantly. Some rational ones quickly shout for help.

Hearing the shout, I quickly attacked, knowing that these guys were calling for reinforcements. I was expecting them to attack me first to buy some time for reinforcements, but when I started to kill a few people, most of them either stood still or screamed and fled. It's at this point that I realized how weak humans outside the military were. Unlike in the military, these people are in no way prepared to fend for themselves. They have been living a life of peace for so long that when put in a situation of fight or flight to survive, flight would always be their choice, even when flight isn't the best option.

Seeing their actions made me mad. While I am not human anymore, seeing how pathetic their choices were made me feel ashamed of the human race. These humans carry no pride inside them. The only thing they carry is shame. At first I only killed a few of them to feed my great sword, but now I have sentenced them all to death.

Swiftly, I start to swing my great sword at the nearest human. His face was filled with terror before he turned into a water fountain. The others near him didn't do anything to help; they just stared in utter shock, and fear. However, this makes me want to kill them even more. I grab one of the guys' heads, squeezing out some delicious strawberry juice. Before swinging my gigantic sword, cutting five people in half.

Screams can be heard around the settlement, but sadly, all of the screaming doesn't prevent me from killing them. In the next few minutes, I have killed plenty of people. Some I punch in the face into meat paste. I rip some people's bodies in half. Others I've decapitated, and many other varieties of ways. While not an efficient way of killing, it is an effective way of inducing mental damage. I don't want to just kill these sheep with a quick death. I want to suffer both physical and mental pain. Let them suffer from the mental trauma even when they go to heaven or hell, but in this case, they wouldn't be in hell since, this place is hell.

My slaughter continues as my great sword glows with excitement from the blood of the sheep. I didn't count the number of people I killed, but from the flowing river of blood, I can safely say I killed plenty. It's also by this point that their so-called reinforcement arrives. In their group of 10, 3 were females, and 7 were males. Looking at their characteristics and demeanor, I know for sure that two of the girls and one of the boys are useless combatants. The two useless girls already lost their composure, as if they were actual combatants that had fought many demons before. A bloody scene like this wouldn't make them lose their composure; at most it would shock them before calming down.

The girl who's not useless is the most dangerous among the group. I've seen plenty of women like her in the war; powerful combatants that use their wits and minds to control the rhythm of the fight. I guess she is probably the leader. The other boys, other than the useless one, also show signs of flinching, but they have enough willpower not to lose their cool. It looks like their reinforcement has quite some power behind them. While I don't know their cards' power, a good mentality means that these guys are ready to fight. Not another group of sheep that would run as soon as they saw a wolf.

However, contrary to my belief, the girl who's most capable in the group is following the orders of one of the capable guys. I don't know why a powerful person like her chose to lower her pride and listen to orders, but her actions have made me quite angry. So, she will be my first victim. Without mercy, I instantly went 100% power, turning into a massive 10 meter giant. My first victim, like prediction, was capable enough to quickly respond to my action. She made a ball of fire before hulling toward my body. I knew I was too big to dodge, so I tanked the fireball, and swung toward her with my great sword. Like a skillful fighter, she dodged to the left, before using that opportunity to hull another ball of fire into my eyes.

Quickly, I shrink back to normal size before grabbing a rock and throwing it toward her. She tried to dodge, but the speed of the rock hit her at the shoulder, crippling one arm. She screamed in pain. The leader boy quickly came in front of the girl, trying to protect her. I lunged toward the two, closing the distance, before punching forward, crackling the air, aiming for the boy. However, my punch didn't land on him; instead it hit thin air. Strangely, although I hit the air, a bombing sound of two solid hits occurred.

The boy frowned when my attack landed. This detail has signaled to me that the boy's air defense card ability must have taken damage, and a big one too. While analyzing this, I also swing toward him. The boy's pupils dilated in fear, which also shows me that the air defense card ability must have a cooldown. My great sword was about to chop the leader boy in half before a shield boy came in time to protect him. A spark flew from the collision of metals, and the shield boy was sent flying 3 meters away.

After dealing with the shield boy, some knife boys came from the shadows behind me. He could have done quite a bit of damage to me if he wasn't stupid enough to roar out loud when he was attacking. To punish him for his stupidity, I did a rotating backward swing, hitting directly toward his head, exploding it into a million pieces.

The knife boy's death must have been significant because I can hear a spear boy shouting something along the lines of "I will avenge you." Like his friend, he made the same stupid mistake of announcing his presence when attacking someone. This made me completely erase him from any threat level.

So back to business. I did another punch, aiming to kill the leader boy. Luckily for him, his ability came back up to defend him. However, this time I can hear a cracking sound when I hit it, showing me that this boy's defense ability doesn't repair itself. So, knowing that the defense was both cracked and on cooldown, I quickly swing toward the leader boy. However, the strongest girl aimed a fireball toward my face, blocking my vision and making me miss my attack.

Seeing a chance to strike, the spear boy takes this opportunity to land a blow on my back, but like I mentioned, he's a stupid idiot that shouts when he attacks. So, I easily detected his position using his voice, retaliating back with a swing. Surprisingly, this spear boy has the skill to block my attack, leading him to live for another second. Before, I grabbed his head and squeezed it into the fresh juice of watermelon.

The leader boy, seeing that the spear boy and the knife boy are dead, starts to lose his composure before being patted on the shoulder by the strongest girl. This causes him to calm down, making me believe that there's a deeper connection between the two. If this is true, it means the strongest girl gives leader boy the leader roles because of the emotion of love. Coming up with this realization gives me more determination to kill the girl more and more.

How dare she trade pride for such an insignificant emotion like love? Where's her pride? Is that boy more precious than pride, since he's so valuable to her? I will make sure to kill him cruelly so that you understand the value of pride.

I smash my sword to the ground, causing it to shake. The two love birds that were trying to escape movement became disordered. I took this opportunity to leap toward the sky to kick the leader boy. Seeing my attack, he used his defense ability to defend against it. Unfortunately, this time the kick power was too strong, and the lead boy's defense broke like glass upon contact with the strike. My kick didn't stop after the impact. It still has enough force to break every bone in the leader boy's body.

The strongest girl screams in sadness at the scene of the leader's death. Her actions at this point disgust me, as she has completely lost her composure. I did not want to see such a scene anymore. So, I grab both of them before squashing them together, letting them die because of each other. You might be asking where the other teammate that came with them. The answer is simple: they all flee. As soon as they all see the spear boy and knife boy die, they run while pissing themselves. I could chase them, but nah. Weaklings like them would die eventually to the demons.

At the end, the benefit was all on my part of the table. I learned that my great sword not only feeds blood to survive, but also gets sharper. I don't know if it will develop new abilities, but I hope it will. Satisfied with my harvest, I walk off into the distance without knowing that I have unlocked a unique state and that a mysterious person is spying on me.
