Chapter 14 - fourteen...

Pearl's POV.

I was frozen to the spot I stood when I got the very feeling that someone was watching me.

I could feel a pair of eyes glaring holes into the back of my head and I was about to turn when I heard a hoarse voice say the name, "Luna."

Hearing that name made a cold shiver run down my entire spine as the images of the guy I saw at the front of the elevator earlier on came playing inside my head, and also the fact that I felt like someone was following me from the office.

I was frozen to the same spot, my mind trying to think fast on how to save my self supposing this person happens to be some psychopath who was trying to hurt me or kidnap me.

But the only thing I could grab was a spatula that was at the top of my microwave, and I quickly held it tightly with my two hands before turning slowly to face the person behind, clearly not prepared but I had to try something either way.

However, when I turned, I couldn't see anyone behind me. I turned from side to side trying to scan the whole place in case the person was hiding somewhere and planning to get me by a surprise but no matter how much I checked, I couldn't find anyone.

"She's the luna?" I heard another voice spoke making me stop my turning around in my apartment.

I was completely taken aback as I couldn't find where those words were coming from.

Am I beginning to hear things? I asked myself but then another voice came up again making me spin in my kitchen a few more times.

"How do you know she's the luna?" It was a lady's voice this time around.

"Wait can she hear us?" The lady's voice said again and I could hear surprise evident in her voice.

However, I know her surprise couldn't be compared to the confusion I'm feeling right now. How am I hearing voices of people who I can't see?

I think I've gone crazy or something, I thought to my self as that seems to be the only explanations for what was going on right now.

"Who are you guys? How comes I can't see you?" I spoke turning all over because I wasn't sure what direction they were speaking from since the only thing I could do was hear their voices.

I wasn't expecting them to answer but when I heard the voices quiet down completely, fear gripped my heart and I could no longer stand in their, so I sprint out if the kitchen and went to grab my phone to call Mackenzie.

I kept looking behind my shoulder in case someone might appear behind me and take me by surprise because I still believe they were definitely hidden somewhere in the house because that was the only reasonable explanations to how I could hear them clearly and they also sounded like they were talking about me.

"Hey, babe!" Mackenzie's shrill voice yelled over the phone a few seconds after the second ring.

I was about to tell her I was coming over to her place because I don't feel like I could stay over at my house alone with the voices I just heard, but before I would speak I heard a loud crash sound as if something just exploded and I didn't know when the phone slipped from my hand and a loud shriek left my mouth, even though I have no idea what exploded or where the sound came from.

I turned slowly expecting to see smoke-filled in the air and a disorganized kitchen or something but I saw nothing and that made me even more scared than I was when I only heard the voice.

My feet were shaking vigorously as I stood rooted to the same spot too scared to move a foot because I wasn't sure what was going on.

I couldn't even pick up my phone from the floor where it had fallen until I heard the voice of Mackenzie speaking in my eerily quiet apartment.

It was like everything fell completely silent the moment I heard that loud crashing sound to an extent that one wouldn't miss the sound of a dropping pin on the floor.

"What's going on?" Mackenzie's worried voice asked through the phone and I had to gather all the courage I could muster to pick up the phone from the ground but I was too scared to speak, or make any sounds.

I was even too scared to breathe loud too afraid what had made that crashing sound was going to come to get me.

I couldn't help but think to myself if this is how I was going to die.

"Pearl? speak to me, are you okay? Is someone there with you? Why are you quiet?" She kept asking all these questions and I tried to say something but it was as if the words were stuck in my throat and they just can't get past my lips no matter how hard I tried to move my lips.

I heard the call ended maybe she was going to call back I thought.

"Can you stop doing that?" The same lady's voice I heard earlier spoke again. "Look how shaken you made the Luna," she added.

"Luna? What do you mean Luna? Since when did we ever have one of those?" Another male's voice said like he was confused at what the lady had said.

I wanted to ask who they were and why I could hear their voices but not see them, and also to ask who they were referring to as Luna, but I was too scared to even move my lips.

"Enough!" A gruff voice yelled and all of them remained quiet and I didn't hear anything anymore, but I was still rooted to the same spot for God knows how long before I heard a loud bang on my doorstep.

"Open up miss Pearl it's the police!"

My face immediately scrunched up when I heard that. Why are the police here I asked myself in my head until I remembered how I had called Mackenzie and remained quiet. I guess she might have called them while thinking I was in danger or something.

The loud bang of the officers made my feet move from their frozen spot as I went over to get the door before they would bring it down.

"Are you miss Pearl?" One of the officers spoke the moment I opened the door and I only nodded because my voice seemed to still have not returned.

"Are you okay? We received a call from your friend saying you might be in danger. Are you alone in there?" The officer asked and I know if I kept keeping quiet then they might want to go inside to check what was going on and I'm not sure I want them to do that so I cleared my throat and forced myself to speak.

"I'm fine officer, I just thought I heard some disturbing sounds," I said my voice coming out in a croak.

"Do you mind if we come in to check?" One of the officers who had been jerking quiet asked and I stepped aside to let them in, while thinking it would actually be better if they checked to see if any psychopaths were hiding in my kitchen.
