Ruby looked at the doctor who had finished checking the sick boy. Her brows furrowed unconsciously when her sight landed on the sleeping boy.
He wasn't as uncomfortable as before and his breathing had smoothened. His face had gained some color now, so it was a relief.
"How is he?"
"He has a cold."
The doctor continued, "Since it's quite high, I gave him the injection. He should be fine after some rest."
Ruby nodded, "Thank you."
After the doctor left, Ruby's attention turned back to the boy who sat beside the bed while holding his brother's hand.
He was no longer anxious, but still rigidly sat straight like a robot. His was stiff all over and his little face scrunched up.
He kept opening and closing his mouth to speak. However, he still couldn't find the correct words to say. In the end, he chose to stay silent.
Ruby sighed.
She dragged her body to the couch, her body grew heavy as soon as it touched the soft material. So she instantly sprawled on the couch lazily. Not minding about her image at all.
She who was going to sleep at the expensive hotel unexpectedly had to sleep in the hospital tonight. She was also forced to watch over a kid and a patient.
Very good.
Just thinking about it, made her heart throbbed in pain.
With a slightly tired voice, she asked, "What's your name?"
"....."
"...."
"...."
"...?"
Ruby thought the kid was asleep, so she peeked a little in his direction only to find him staring at her with a pair of guarded eyes. His grasp on his brother's hand tighten.
He hadn't decided yet what attitude he should give to her. Although it was true that she was their savior, at the end of the day she was still a stranger.
For him who lived in the dirtiest and most dangerous places, wandering around the streets, surviving in vicious ways, kindness is nonexistent.
Now that he suddenly receive some grace from a stranger, it was both suspicious and baffling.
At the split second their eyes met, Ruby was startled. It gave her an unusual feeling.
She was never a caring person because she was too used to being alone as an orphan.
She was rash and indifferent.
She wouldn't care about anyone else except herself.
Nevertheless, from the moment she met these kids, she felt bothered. She had a feeling that she had to help them.
It was like some kind of obligation. She obviously wanted to casually throw some money before telling them to go get treatment, but her body moved first, carrying the sick boy and personally bringing him over to the hospital.
Ruby carefully thought about it. No matter how you looked at it, it was weird.
Originally she guessed that she was just being impulsive. But, when she caught the deep black obsidian eyes, a certain memory at the back of her head was swimming at an alarming speed towards the surface.
A few moments later, Ruby was speechless.
She dared not think further. She frightfully tried to forget those memories and pretend that it was all just a dream.
Sadly, heaven is not on her side this time. The boy coldly said, "Nine."
"Huh?"
The boy repeated with patience, "My name."
Hearing the answer, Ruby couldn't help but gulp with difficulties.
She stammered to reply, "W-What about your brother?"
The boy kept his face straight, "Ten."
Inwardly he wondered why Ruby sound so nervous? He cast a strange look at Ruby.
Ruby herself was busy screaming in her heart. She cursed and cursed until her mind was full of F words.
Her chest heaved up and down in anger. She was fuming and her face was beet red.
It seemed like she got pulled into the plot unknowingly.
