Chapter 16 - Her days were numbered

Ruby huffed and puffed like a pufferfish. She went overboard as her own thoughts poured without constraint.

Couldn't take it back. So embarrassing.

Ruby felt tired. Obviously, she only wanted to persuade them but she ended up blowing her cover instead.

The twins blankly watched her wilt with a defeated expression. They were actually the dumbfounded ones, but it looks like she got hit quite heavily rather than them.

Nine couldn't help but sigh exasperatedly. His icy voice soften without him realizing it, "What will you gain from all this?"

Ruby mumbled, "I could make your mother roll in regret if you grow up nicely under my wings."

Ten was speechless. For a measly reason like that, she was planning to adopt them?

Childish. Her means for revenge are really childish.

However, the tension between them caused by mentioning Crystal lessened.

Ten curiously asked, "Do you have a bad relationship with her?"

"En."

"What happened?"

"She snatched my family."

Question marks appeared on the twins' heads.

Ten commented comically, "But we are not her family, you can't take revenge by grabbing us."

"No, no, no. You don't understand. In the future, she will cry tears and blood from regret."

"And why is that?"

"Because you will become so strong that she wouldn't have the ability to stomp on you anymore."

Ten sneered, "You expect too much from us."

Ruby wasn't angry, she replied cheerfully, "You are just too humble."

Ten and Nine: "...."

It's impossible to communicate with this person. Her brain has a huge hole in it that whatever they are saying will be misinterpreted to her heart's content.

Ten gave up. He chose to be a bystander and listened from the sideline.

Nine who were forced to go up facing Ruby, secretly snorted.

Nevertheless, Nine thought it was an opportunity to rewrite his life. Whatever purpose Ruby had for adopting them, in the end, they will be the ones who benefit.

Therefore Nine was currently considering Ruby's offer.

He somewhat knew that Ruby wouldn't do anything outrageous to them even if she hated their mother. For someone like her, it was already good that she could come up with a plan like this. That's why it was more or less safe to accept this deal.

The thing that he was hesitating about was that he figured he had to take care of Ruby too later on, as she will be their stepmother. Looking at how she behaved, the big word 'hopeless' was painted on her forehead.

Moving his eyes from Ten who snarled at him out of annoyance to Ruby who was sighing wearily, the corner of Nine's mouth twitched.

"You... can support us right?"

Nine suddenly uttered with uncertainty, thoroughly making sure that Ruby had what it takes to adopt them.

Ruby naturally couldn't stand how doubtful he was, she hummed a little proud.

"Don't worry, I got it."

However, after hearing her reply, Nine completely lost her confidence in Ruby.

He resignedly swallow his words and vaguely said, "En. We are independent kids. It's okay."

"Hnn? What did you say?"

"Nothing."

Thus, the deal was sealed between them.

Ruby happily called the doctor to check on Ten's condition while she went to the canteen to buy some breakfast for them.

She entrusted Ten in Nine's hands as she wasn't used to it yet.

She was like a little sun shining brightly when her lips curled. Showing how happy she was after gaining some assurance.

It was like a load was taken off her shoulders and she felt a whole lighter.

'I'm going to double my sleep once I have eaten' Ruby thought to herself.

Ruby, the little piggy, beautifully dream without knowing her days were numbered as it would get super busy and full of surprises that she wished to slap herself black and blue.

Daring to choose this path.
