Ruby shrugged. "No problem."
Feigning a calm expression, she deliberately ignored Ten.
She wasn't the baby fox's match and couldn't help but soften whenever she saw him. It was better not to look at him for the time being.
"Your brother said he will return the favor. Isn't that right?"
Nine solemnly nodded. He had already told everything to Ten before Ruby came back.
They didn't have anything to pay her back, so they unanimously agreed to ask Ruby later.
Although Ruby said she didn't expect them to, they didn't want to feel indebted.
Even if they were poor, they could still use their body as payment. Either to work as a servant, lackey or anything, it was fine.
If Ruby heard these ambiguous words of paying with their body, she would likely trash them to the ground until they learned their lessons.
Nine and Ten wouldn't care though. The point is, they had to hurriedly return the favor and be rid of this debt. That way, they could cleanly say goodbye to Ruby and resume their pitiful life by themselves.
In other words, you could say, they just had trust issues when it comes to other people.
Nine's childish voice contained with a hint of iciness was heard by Ruby the second he opened his mouth.
"What do you want?"
He looked straight at Ruby. His eyes were firm and strong, unlike his childlike voice which sound a little soft.
Ruby raised her eyebrow, "Can you afford it?"
Instantly, Nine's eyes darkened. But he persistently stayed firm, "We can work for you."
He paused, then continued on saying, "...for a while."
Ruby chuckled. She was genuinely amused. She glanced briefly at Ten and took note of his agreeable expression.
Ten caught Ruby's eyes and flinched slightly. Lowering his head and blushing, without even trying to stop Nine.
Since things had progressed this far, Ruby thoughtfully said, "No."
Nine intended to keep pushing, but Ruby raised her hand signaling him to stop.
Ruby grinned widely, "How about making a deal with me?"
"I need your cooperation on something."
The twins dazedly stared at Ruby, thinking what kind of cooperation could she have with them?
Ruby wasted a night's worth of time to come up with the idea of making a deal. She didn't know if this was good or not, but she knew, this was the best choice to get them under her wings.
Having survived in a harsh environment, the twins were not easy to deal with. If you forced them, there is a possibility they might retaliate. If you gave them the upper hand, they will likely become lawless and might boss her around.
It will be a hassle to bring them up.
Even though she did propose cooperation, but once they fall into the category of her own person, she wouldn't treat them badly. The deal was just to make them understand that the twins and Ruby were equal, therefore they wouldn't be on edge, it would be even better if their guard lower a little from this.
Of course, Ruby wasn't going to raise them like an upright citizen, disciplining them to be kind to everyone, or even honor the old and protect the young.
In the beginning, she wasn't that type of person, so she didn't have the confidence or desire to guide them. Moreover, she preferred the domineering, handsome evil twins.
She just wants them to embark on the path they were most comfortable with.
Whatever they will be, will be.
As long as they didn't cross the line, which is murdered and arson, Ruby would allow them to be as free as a bird. She would also let them walk sideways with their chin pointed high up.
Besides, these unlucky golden eggs were her future source of money.
As long as they remember her forever, it's enough.
Her only wish was, in her advanced age she could continue being a salted fish, unemployed, and bathed in a pool of money.
Hehe.
Ten almost couldn't contain his bewildered expression and expose himself. His weak body felt like it was injected with high toxicity drugs. He was invigorated, full of curiosity.
Nine's eyes flickered with a strange light. He always wondered why Ruby was kind enough staying in the hospital, accompanying them, it turned out she was aiming for something.
Truly, he shouldn't expect someone to be totally pure and kind.
There's no such person in this world.
However, he weirdly felt relieved.
