Chapter 2 - Why am I Still Alive?!

Ruby's head was spinning. She faintly heard voices of people arguing and shouting.

In her mind Ruby was thinking, were the King of Yama and his subordinates fighting over her right now?

Maybe she wasn't supposed to be dead yet but Yama couldn't bear to let her go?

Mm. It's possible.

Ruby suspiciously thought so.

Although her body felt heavy and was aching everywhere, Ruby put forth her will to open both eyes then tell them no need to fight.

She wanted to ascend to heaven. Thank you.

But the moment her eyes cracked open, Ruby was stunned silly. She was lying in a room that looks like a hospital room.

White. All white.

Like a ward?

???

Hmmm..

Is this a test? Maybe to test whether she was worthy enough to go to heaven?

Ruby was a second away to sighed in relief when her thoughts were interrupted. Doctors began surrounding her bed, carefully checking her condition with fear on their faces.

"How are you feeling Young Miss?"

"Are you in pain?"

"How do you feel?"

"Can you see me?"

"Are there any parts of your body that are hurting?"

"Do you feel uncomfortable?"

Bombarded by questions, Ruby was dumbfounded. She blankly looked at them one by one. After that, she asked with a confused voice, "Where am I?"

One of the doctors readily answered, "You are in the hospital, Ms. Ruby."

"...."

So it's truly hospital, not a test from Yama?

What the heck!! Why is she still alive?!

Thinking so, she asked again with a higher voice, "Why am I still alive?!"

Gasp!

There was a collective gasp in the room. The temperature of the room quickly went down and the mood turned somber. The doctors were terrified. They didn't know what to do when they heard the Heather family Young Miss regretted not dying.

Ruby herself shivered from the cold. Her eyes confusedly searched for the source of cold.

There, at the side of the bed where a sofa was placed, in front of it were people with crumpled faces and a cold aura stiffly standing.

The middle-aged woman who looked dignified and graceful stood shakingly. Tears streamed down her face and her expression was especially hurtful.

She quietly said, "Ruby.. Mom- Mom is sorry.."

"...mom?"

Ruby was taken aback. Whose mom are you?

'I'm an orphan!'..was what she wanted to say when her head started aching. Without notice whatsoever, memory began pouring into her mind like a waterfall.

Ruby couldn't handle the pain of accepting the memory.

Her face was distorted. She was frowning unhappily.

Madam Heather thought her daughter was very angry at her. She couldn't help but feel heartache. The other Heather family members' faces were tight. They were going to coax Ruby when one of the doctors raised his hand, signaling them to stop. He closely examined Ruby's expression and concluded there was something wrong.

"Is it hurt Miss?"

Ruby nodded. Her vision was blurry, she couldn't tell right from left or east from west.

Everyone's expression instantly changed to worry.

"What kind of pain do you feel Miss?"

"Oh..."

Everyone turned serious, wanting to know how badly it pained her.

"....Chicken wings...Ohhh.."

"...."

Before Ruby's eyes completely went dark, she murmured in a wronged tone, "..My chicken.."

"...."

Ruby fainted.
