Chapter 15 - Freeing Westernfield, a raid without a plan

Perros, Nazo and Cyra returned to the saloon after a day of exploring Westernfield. After Bruno led them to their room, he headed back downstairs to the kitchen.

They had a little meeting in the room before they went to bed. They discussed how they were going to eliminate the leader of the kidnappers and liberate the city.

"So, Perros did you find anything?" Nazo asked and sat down on the bed.

"No." Perros responded plainly.

"YOU COULD AT LEAST PRETEND TO THINK!" Nazo was irritated.

"And what have you been doing all day?" He added in the same tone.

"Somehow I got into a wine shop where I met Gerald. Then some drunk woman named Raven challenged me to a duel, which of course I won..." Perros said and took a deep breath.

"And then..." He was about to add something else, but Nazo interrupted him.

"I'm not going to ask how you ended up in a duel or who the drunk woman was... But who is Gerald?" Nazo asked.

Perros looked out of the window and smiled.

"Gerald is an old friend of mine, I've known him for a very long time, practically since childhood." Perros said.

"He inspired me to do something different because before that I wanted to be a lawman, helping others. But a lawman has a code to follow... cowboys don't have to. I can help others when I want and if I want." He added.

"So he's kind of like your father." Cyra giggled.

"Well, you can think of him more like a mentor. Because he taught me how to shoot and other basics..." Perros said.

"Okay, so he's going to help us liberate this town?" Nazo asked.

"Yeah..." Perros laughed nervously.

"You didn't ask him, did you?" Nazo asked disappointedly.

"Of course not, there wasn't time..." Perros defended himself.

"And we can easily do it ourselves." He added heroically.

"I highly doubt it, but if you say so...." Nazo said.

"But now... how do we do it? Do we sneak in, or do we do it the loud way. What do you think, Perros?" He added, looking at him.

Perros fell asleep on the bed while Nazo formulated a plan.

"YOU...." Nazo was furious.

"Let him be, you must be rested for tomorrow. Let's get some sleep too." Cyra suggested.

"Argh... you're right." Nazo said and laid down on a bed.

Cyra also laid down on her own bed.

"Just a little longer and you'll be back home." Nazo said and went to sleep.

"Thank you..." Cyra whipered and also went to sleep.

The next day, Nazo woke up but didn't see Perros in his bed.

"Where is he?" He thought and looked at Cyra, who was still asleep.

Nazo went downstairs and there he was. Perros was already eating breakfast.

"Hello, Nazo. Did you sleep well?" Perros said with a mouthful of food.

"Yeah..." Nazo streched.

"Come, have some food." Perros said.

"Do you really think we have that much time?" Nazo said grumpily.

"There's always time to eat!" Perros said and raised an apple.

"Here, eat at least this..." He added, tossing the apple to Nazo.

Nazo caught the apple and looked at it. He nodded his head in acceptance and took a bite.

After they had some food, they were ready to execute their plan. Both of them stepped outside.

"So, what's the plan?" Nazo asked.

"I thought we already had a plan..." Perros thought.

"No, you fell asleep last night and we haven't done anything..." Nazo rolled his eyes.

"And since you're my future 'leader', you'll come up with a plan." He added.

Perros looked surprised and annoyed at the same time.

"Sigh, alright..." Perros said and looked at the giant cogwheel.

"I'll think of something on the way..." He added and went on.

"What was I expecting..." Nazo thought to himself.

Perros and Nazo set out together to find a street that would lead to the inner part where the leader of the kidnappers resides.

"Is this it?" Perros thought.

In front of them was a wide street with hardly anyone on it. The street looked richer than other streets in the outer part. So did the people, their clothes looked like they were made of some expensive fabric.

Perros and Nazo looked at each other with determination, but with a bit of nervousness.

"It is it..." Nazo replied and together they walked into the street.

As they walked through, people looked at them coldly, perhaps because of their clothes or just because they knew that Perros and Nazo came from the outer part, which they despised. Perros and Nazo, however, were minding their own business. They were just staring at the big gate that stood at the end of the street. They knew that the man responsible for Cyra's kidnapping is behind the gate. And so are his henchmen, of course.

When Perros and Nazo arrived at the gate, Perros wondered how they were going to get in.

"I'll try knocking..." Perros said and knocked on the gate.

They both waited for an answer, but nothing came.

"Sigh... How do we get in?" Perros looked around.

"Maybe if we wait...." Nazo said, but Perros cut him off.

"I'll just kick it open." Perros said casually.

"WHAT!?" Nazo was surprised.

"You can't kick open this giant gate..."He added, looking at Perros, who was walking towards the normally sized door that was next to the gate.

"Oh..." Nazo said.

Perros again knocked on the door, but nobody answered.

"Ready, Nazo? There's no turning back after this, you're going to be a man with a hefty price on your head." Perros looked at Nazo.

"I don't care, as long as the guy pays for what he did..." Nazo said angrily.

"And I already have a bounty..." He added.

"Okay, I'm going in..." Perros said and kicked the door open.

When they peeked inside, Perros and Nazo had to go through another door to get to the other side of the wall.

"Argh.... again..." Perros said and kicked the other door open as well.

Afterwards, they were in the centre of Westernfield. Right under the giant cogwheel. Their target, however, was the building atop the cogwheel where the kidnappers' boss resides.

There was a huge hole in the ground under the cogwheel, which was a mine shaft. Perros and Nazo could see people coming in and out of it. It looked like a prison.

"So we need to get to the top..." Perros looked up at the building.

"How do we do that?" He added.

"There are stairs along the wooden column that holds the cogwheel." Nazo pointed out.

"You're right... Let's go." Perros said and casually stepped into enemy territory.

"Sigh..." Nazo sounded and followed Perros.

But there was a little problem, everyone who worked there had the same clothes. So Perros and Nazo kind of stood out. And of course guards noticed them.

"STOP!" Guard #1 shouted.

"You don't belong here, what are you doing here?" He added.

"We are here to have a little chat with your boss." Perros said.

"I don't think he's expecting anyone at this hour..." Guard #1 replied.

"Yeah, but we don't care..." Perros looked at Nazo and nodded.

Perros promptly shot him in the head with a blunt bullet, knocking the guard unconscious.

The gun shot reverberated through the entire compound. All the guards were on alert and rushed to the cogwheel.

It didn't take long before Perros and Nazo were surrounded. Guards appeared around them and were ready to fire at a moment's notice.

"Ah, ah, hah, ah, hah...." Loud laughter echoed from the building atop the cogwheel.

"So it's you... the man who searched for his relative and succeeded..." The boss said.

"And the gentleman with the white hat is who?" The boss added.

"Umm... Who?" Perros looked around in confusion.

"Argh..." The boss paused.

"WHO ELSE WEARS A WHITE HAT AND IS SURROUNDED BY GUARDS!" The boss added in annoyance.

"Well, I guess that would be me..." Perros agreed.

"Who are you?" Nazo asked.

"You know who I am... Maybe not by name, but by my actions." The boss said.

"I'm the one behind your sister's kidnapping." He added and laughed.

Nazo was angry, but did nothing.

"And now that you're here...." The boss said.

"You're going to work here from now on...." He added and laughed

"Oh, that's nice, but I don't need a job..." Perros said.

"I'M NOT OFFERING YOU A JOB!" The boss shouted in annoyance.

"But we're here for your head." Perros added.

"That's nice, but if you don't work... you'll die." The boss said seriously.

"FIRE...." The boss shouted.
