The rest of the national fitness day went on to be uneventful for you. After being held up in Recovery Girl's office for an hour, and now sporting a freshly wrapped arm, you were free to rejoin your class in the rest of the planned activities.
You held an apple in your right hand, listening to Mina when you saw him walking past you with Kirishima on his tail. Instantly you felt your face drop. Bakugo and you clashed eyes, you kept your face still, hiding the pain you felt inside your chest. You looked away from him, there was nothing left to say, he said it all for the both of you.
Bakugo took the small window he had after you glanced away to gaze at your left side. He was the cause of that...his stomach twisted seeing the blood staining through the white gauze...
The rest of the week passed by in a blaring wave of pure boredom.
Was this what high school really was?
It was very repetitive.
You woke up, ate, went to school. Chatted with classmates, awkwardly sat behind Bakugo as the two of you bluntly ignored each other. Lunch, training, classes, go home and repeat it all over again.
But it was finally the weekend, All Might was with his agency for the day, so you were free to do whatever you wanted. After a quick shower, a change of clothes and wrapping your arm back up you kicked on a pair of shoes and grabbed a bag filled with snacks and water. The last thing you grabbed before leaving the house was a map of the town.
Today you wanted to be outside, in the bright sun hiking.
Perhaps getting some fresh air would help ease the weight that was sitting on your chest. You didn't know why Bakugo's words hit so hard, but you couldn't shake them.
Killer.
Scum.
A piece of you still believed his words were true, but thanks to your sessions with Dr. Aimi you didn't believe it as much. You took a deep breath as you found yourself stepping onto a rocky path headed into the forest. The plan was to go up the mountain and get a good view for the lunch you packed.
You loosely tied your hair back, so it was out of the way. The sun shined down, baking you with its rays, the fresh air was nice as you listened to the light sounds of birds chirping.
You researched the trail you were on; it was a popular one but it was early in the morning so there wasn't anyone else around. You enjoyed the moment alone.
After an hour and a half of hiking up the trees, you stopped to take in the sight. You breathed in feeling at peace gazing at the tops of trees all blended with the morning sky, it was a sight of beauty. One you didn't know could exist. A moment later you heard the gravel footsteps of another person, it sounded like they were going down so you would only have to deal with them for a moment.
Maybe give a polite wave or smile, you turned your head only to feel your body freeze.
There, dressed in a red hoodie and pants holding a bookbag on his back stood your oh so loving classmate.
You turned your head forward, not giving Bakugo another second of your time. He just has to walk down the mountain and this encounter will be over in like three seconds. You heard him begin to walk again, your muscles were on edge as he passed behind you. For a moment you wondered if he would try to push you off this mountain.
"(y/n)-" Bakugo's deep voice shattered the thin peace. You pulled your lips into a tight line hearing him.
'Fuck.' You thought as you turned your head.
"-I-" He seemed to be internally struggling with words.
"Keep walking Bakugo." You responded, not acknowledging him cringe hearing his full name on your mouth and not his nickname. You turned not in the mood to deal with his short temper so you began your walk up the mountain.
"I'm talking to you-!" Bakugo called, following you.
"Well clearly I don't want to talk." You replied.
"(y/n)-"
"What don't you understand by fuck off?" You asked looking back.
"Just listen-!"
"Oh-!" You scoffed, turning to face him. "-now you wanna talk to the killer?"
"I..." Bakugo looked away from you, "...I didn't-"
"What?" You pushed, "You wanna give me matching arms?"
"No!" Bakugo snapped his head forward, "I didn't mean to use my quirk, it was just a reflex-"
"Good for you." You rolled your eyes, "You might wanna get your little...pre slip up...in order before you fight with someone else who wouldn't be able to dodge it." With that you turned to leave but Bakugo grabbed your wrist, you snapped around, arm raised ready to strike him, but he caught that hand too.
"Will you just fucking listen!?"
"Why the fuck would I want to do that!?" You yelled, struggling to wiggle your hands free.
"(y/n) I..." Bakugo clenched his jaw, "...I...I fucked up ok!?"
"No shit!" You almost laughed,
"I didn't mean what I said-" Bakugo went on, "-I was in my head..." Bakugo used Kirishima's words. "...and I let my...anger get the best of me."
"Wow-" You breathed, "-this must be a real moment for you, look you're growing as a person-"
"I'm not joking around!"
"And I don't care!" You snapped, "I don't have to fucking care! I'm not the asshole here who called you out on the pettiest bullshit in front of half the school!"
"I didn't mean-"
"You don't like me? That's fine. But you're not going to fucking insult me in front of the entire-"
You were cut off by Bakugo pulling you into a tight hug.
Your eyes were wide as your chin rested on his shoulder.
"Like I already told you, I didn't mean what I said. I was...angry and I just got in my head. I didn't mean the words that came out of my mouth, and I didn't want to use my quirk on you...I... I'm sorry...or whatever."
You remained wrapped inside Bakugo's arms for you couldn't even guess how long. Time evaporated from the two of you.
"Wow-" You smirked, "-are you getting some real character development here?"
"Shut the hell up-" Bakugo snapped, his arms tightening around you. "-dumbass."
"There's the B I know!" You joked, Bakugo smirked hearing that nickname. The two of you quickly parted upon hearing a couple jogging passed you. You gave a light nod acknowledging them.
"Where are you going anyway?" Bakugo wondered, looking around the area once the two of you were alone again. Glancing at the way you were walking, you pointed to it.
"The fucking mall-!" You snapped, "-where do you think!?" Bakugo smirked, having missed your sarcasm.
"I already hiked up the mountain today-" Bakugo glanced at his watch, "-it's pretty late in the day-"
"Late in the day?" You repeated, walking closer to peek at his watch. "It's eight in the morning!"
"Yeah." Bakugo nodded, "Late."
"Your insane." You realized. "Only fucking crazy people get up before ten."
"Your awake before ten."
"My point exactly!" You pointed at Bakugo who chuckled but followed you up the mountain.
----
"This view is amazing!" You laughed, looking out on all the land as you and Bakugo stood on a cliff not many people knew about.
"Yeah..." Bakugo hummed, staring at you as you took in the sights.
"Let's eat!" You jumped, causing Bakugo to blush and quickly look every where else but you.
"What?" Bakugo questioned, watching you plop down. Bakugo stared as you rummaged through your bag.
"Sit." You ordered, "You're making me nervous." You added, after a moment he did as told. Bakugo was amazed by how much food you brought with you; it was more than enough to split between two people.
"I like food." You brushed off Bakugo's comments.
"I can see that." He muttered. "Why does it make you nervous for someone to stand over you?"
"It isn't weird for you?" You played off, but Bakugo saw through your act. You swallowed the bit of sandwich in your mouth before placing it down inside its container. "When we were fed-" You started, recalling your time back inside Shadow Jack's hell. "-a guard would be placed over us."
"What for?"
"Many reasons." You breathed, refusing to look at him.
"Like?"
"To hurry us up I don't know-" You shrugged, but Bakugo still didn't buy the lie. "-another would be...so we didn't force ourselves to choke on whatever they gave us."
"Why would..." Bakugo furrowed his brows, but after a moment he realized. "...so, you wouldn't kill yourselves?"
"Yeah." You nodded,
"Did you-?"
"I wasn't lucky enough to think of that first." You smirked, staring off into your memories.
"There were more like you?"
"Yeah." You nodded, "A couple more."
"Where are they now?"
"Um..." You cleared your throat. "...dead."
"I...um..." Bakugo readjusted in his place. "...so why come hiking alone?" Bakugo swiftly changed the subject which you were more than happy to do.
"Who else would I ask to come?" You wondered,
"I don't know-" Bakugo shrugged, "-don't you hang around the pink chick a lot?"
"You mean Mina?"
"Yeah. Not to mention you have been hanging out with that damn Icy Hot and that nerd."
"They are my classmates." You smiled, "What else am I supposed to do?"
"Aren't you all friends or something?"
"I don't know." You pulled your lips together, "I'm not very good with that department." You laughed awkwardly before turning to Bakugo. "You're my friend." You decided to forgive him in that moment.
"Huh?" Bakugo turned, catching the tail end of your smile.
"We are friends." You repeated looking forward, "Your my first friend actually." You realized, looking out at the view.
Bakugo stared at you with wide eyes, the morning sun came out just to frame your face. His heart was pounding rigorously inside his rib cage, his palms began to sweat as he stared at you. His chest filled to the brim, threatening to pour over with a hot bubbling feeling he never felt before.
"No." He whispered, shaking his head not liking this feeling that took over every time he looked at you.
"What?" You turned not catching his words.
"We are not friends." Bakugo repeated, quickly getting to his feet.
"What?" You frowned, following suit.
"We are not friends!" Bakugo snapped,
"Hey-" You said reaching out, touching his shoulder.
"No!" Bakugo growled, spinning around catching your injured arm with his hands, he stepped behind you and pulled on it, you cried out in pain. "We are not fucking friends!" He growled, twisting harder he could almost hear your joints protesting from inside your arm.
"B-"
"My name is not fucking 'B'!" Bakugo snapped, letting your arm go and pushing you to the ground. "Stop calling me that lame ass name."
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" You snapped, pushing yourself to balance on your knees as you cradled your throbbing arm. Your brows were knitted together with a look of confusion and betrayal painted on your face. "Was this all some kind of joke to you!?"
Bakugo didn't reply, he just kept moving away from you. He made the mistake of glancing back, taking in your image cause his stomach to turn. But he powered through the nausea and jogged down the mountain, leaving you all alone.
