Chapter 40 - Part 40

Joel was left disappointed.

As Camilla made her way down the hallway, still processing the conversation with Joel, she couldn't help but notice the sudden shift in the atmosphere.

Employees passing by greeted Lisa with wide smiles and enthusiastic waves.

"Good morning, Lisa! You're looking great today!" one of them called out.

"Hey, Lisa, you're so lucky to have Canary! He's one of a kind," another employee added with a grin.

Camilla's brow furrowed slightly as she watched Lisa, the smiles and compliments flowing toward her like a river.

Lisa, normally reserved, seemed to stand a little taller, though there was a subtle flush to her cheeks as she nodded politely in return.

As the employees walked away Lisa's gaze met Camilla standing by.

Camilla stood a roof and walked over to Lisa. " Looks like you're the star around here now,"

Camilla remarked with a wry smile, her voice tinged with something that could have been envy.

Lisa turned to her with a gentle smile. "I didn't expect all this attention," she said, her tone a bit sheepish. "But… I guess it's just part of the job now."

Must be nice," Camilla mused, her eyes scanning the room. "Seems like everyone's suddenly your biggest fan."

" Lisa shifted uncomfortably but managed to maintain her smile. "It's a little overwhelming, but I guess I'm lucky in some ways."

" I thought you were sharp-witted, Lisa. Smart enough to see through all the games. But here you are, accepting everything Canary throws your way, just like all the others."

Lisa's smile faltered, and she instinctively stepped closer, her voice defensive. "You don't know Canary like I do. He's not like…"

"Like what?" Camilla cut her off with a sharp laugh. "Not like the others? Believe me, Lisa, he's no different. Canary has always been able to play people like pawns. You're no exception. One day, he'll move on, and when he does, you'll be the one left wondering what happened."

Lisa's eyes flashed with a mixture of anger and hurt. "That's not true," she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "He's changed..."

Camilla's smile was cold, her gaze calculating. "You can tell yourself that, but it won't change what's coming. One day, you'll be discarded just like I was. I've been there. And trust me, when it happens, you'll wish you'd listened to me."

As Camilla's footsteps echoed down the hallway, Lisa stood still, her chest tight with conflicting emotions.

The weight of Camilla's warning lingered in the air, but she refused to let doubt creep in. She had faith in her relationship with Canary, no matter what anyone else said.

——

That evening, Camilla returned home to find Regina sitting at her desk, absorbed in her laptop.

"Regina, what are you doing on my computer?" Camilla asked, her tone sharp.

Regina glanced up, unfazed. "Just going through some things. No harm done," she replied casually getting off the computer.

Camilla's expression hardened, a hint of frustration creeping into her voice.

"Regina, just don't ruin my documents, okay? I've already had a tough day at the company."

Regina leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "So, what happened at the company today? You look a little… off."

Camilla hesitated for a moment before answering, her frustration still evident. " You won't believe, An Unclr fighting his nephew."

" What do you mean ?" Regina asked.

" You know our CEO Canary, And His uncle Mr. Joel Rivers, Joel asked for my help in taking down Canary."

Regina's brow furrowed. "Joel? Canary's uncle? Why would he ask you to fight Canary?"

She seemed genuinely surprised, her voice laced with skepticism.

" simply because Canary used me and then dumped me."

Regina's eyes widened in surprise, her lips parting slightly.

She Couldn't believe that the same Canary who dumped her two years ago now dumped her young sister.

"Wait, what? You and Canary…? I had no idea you two had something."

Camilla sighed, feeling a twinge of bitterness as the memories resurfaced.

"Yeah, we did. A long time ago. He made all these promises, made me believe I was something special… but when it suited him, he moved on without a second thought." Spoke Camilla.

Regina stared at her sister, her expression one of genuine shock.

"I had no idea. So, you're telling me Joel wants you to help him take down Canary because of that? Because of some old grudge?"

" Yeah, It's what he wants but I can't do it. Fighting for a man who chose a lower class girl over me." Camilla hissed.

This surprised Regina again.

" You mean he now has a girlfriend?" She asked.

" Yeah, She's a designer at the company, but compared to the women Canary's used to, she's nothing special. He's with her now, but it's only a matter of time before he gets bored." Camilla assured.

' So Canary, You didn't stop on dumping me but also used my sister, And now you are dating another girl, You will regret it.'

Regina vowed in her mind. She couldn't let Camilla know that she was also once Canary's girlfriend.

The following day, Regina walked into Andersons Group with a purposeful stride, her heels clicking on the polished floors as she approached the reception desk.

"I need to speak with Mr. Joel Rivers," she said, her tone firm and determined.

The receptionist glanced up from her desk, her smile fading as she assessed Regina. "I'm sorry, Ms, but you can't meet with Mr. Rivers without an appointment."

Regina's expression didn't change. "I understand, but this is important. I have something crucial to discuss with him."

The receptionist remained unmoved, her fingers hovering over the keyboard.

"I'm afraid without an appointment, I can't let you through. Mr. Rivers is very busy today."

Regina's eyes narrowed slightly, but she didn't let her frustration show.

" Let me make him a call.."

The receptionist picked up the phone and dialed Joel's office.

" Someone needs to talk you" Regina was given the phone.

" Hi, Who is this ?" Joel asked.

" I heard you plan to put down Canary, I might be helpful to you."

Regina said in a whisper that the receptionist couldn't hear.
