Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

I woke up hours later, dawn light filtering through the curtains. Slowly sitting up I fully take in the hospital room. The walls were covered in pastel blue wallpaper and pictures of the river and mountains were hanging throughout the room. The fluorescent lights were still bright, but lit up the walls beautifully. When the dawn light hits the picture of the river it really looks like it's reflecting off it. I can see nurses rushing up and down the hallways and the quiet murmuring was actually soothing. Taking a deep breath I get hit with the smell of fresh blood, a lot of it. Something was wrong, the atmosphere that I thought was just a normal day in the hospital was way off. Looking closer at the nurses, I could see their faces were twisted in horror, fear, and concentration. A few had lots of blood on their scrubs. Sliding off the bed I grab the IV pole and make my way to the door.

"Excuse me?" I try getting at least one nurse's attention. A shorter nurse with a cute pixie cut in her natural red hair stops and looks me over.

"Are you supposed to be out of bed?" she asks sternly, I know she was just doing her job and I appreciated her for it.

"I'll get back in, in a moment. What's going on? I smell a lot of blood and the other nurses look worried." I tread on the topic lightly not wanting to upset her, but I had to know. Something was very wrong here.

"There was an attack. The vampires have moved North two of our evening patrols were ambushed and we're not sure if they're going to attack again soon or not. This is the first time they've come this far. The war was raging in the South and now we think the vampires are trying to wipe out all of the wolves," Her voice chokes up at the end and I can tell it's hard for her to say, "I'm sorry I have to go see my other patients, please get back into bed so we won't worry about you. You seem very important to the Alpha to be." she scurries off down the hall leaving me stunned by her comment.

The alpha to be? I haven't met him though...I've only met the doctor and...Lucian!? No, no he can't be the alpha to be. There's no way. Making a quick decision I pull out the IV needle wincing slightly as the needle comes loose. Grabbing my duffel I step into the bathroom and close the door. I dig through my case and smile when I see what Mary had put into my bag. At the very top was her red leather jacket, tears spring to my eyes as I pull it out. Grabbing a pair of my black ripped skinny jeans, a tank top and a pair of my black converse sitting at the bottom. Slipping into the jeans and shirt I pull the leather jacket over my shoulders, Mary's scent wafts around me. I close my eyes and it feels like my best friend is right there with me. This boosts my strength and confidence, slinging the bag over my shoulder I throw my hair into a braid down my back and head out of my hospital room. Slipping out of the hospital's main doors I take a deep breath inhaling the fresh air and catching a whiff of Lucian's scent. Using that to navigate the territory I follow it to a giant log cabin mansion. Knocking on the door I wait. A boy who looked about my age and at least six foot three pulls open the door looking down at me.

"Hey I know you, you're the girl from the woods right? When did the doctor clear your discharge?" he asks, suspicion etching into his face.

"Um, well he didn't really, but I heard what happened I think I can help. I know I'm not as up to par as everyone else, but my mom was Blood Moon Pack's strongest warrior and she started teaching me at age three. I have to help. The vampires killed her when I was five." I rushed the last part knowing time was of the essence right now. It might be day now, but as soon as the sun disappears behind the horizon this whole pack could be attacked.

"Alright, come in." The man steps to the side, giving me room to step inside. The interior was just as gorgeous as the outside of the house. Placed at the back of the room was a huge brick fireplace, quietly burning logs. Rustic furniture was placed neatly around the room giving it a nice homey atmosphere. Hanging from the ceiling was an ornate chandelier made from sticks with ten bigger fairy lights lighting the room. On the opposite side of the room was a grand staircase made of light oak wood leading up to a balcony overseeing the main room and I could see a hallway leading towards the back of the house. The walls were covered in giant windows making the space look even bigger than it was. I was awestruck for a split second before taking the stairs up and down the hallway. At the end of the hallway was another giant window showcasing a beautiful view of the lake behind the house and surrounding the back half of the pack territory. Straining my ears I could hear voices coming from the room to my left, stepping closer I could hear the voices were agitated and angry, but there was some sadness in them too.

"Lucian no. We can't risk the pack like that. We don't even know where the vampires are hiding out." a deeper male voice was saying it was similar to Lucian's, but not as soothing you could hear the power in his voice a lot more than Lucian's. This must be the alpha.

"But dad, if we took them by surprise we might have a chance. Instead of waiting like sitting ducks and risking the lives of all the pack. Including the pups. It's the best option we have." Lucian retorts, he had the right idea, but his dad was right too. How can we attack if we don't know where they are stationed out.

"Who's there? I can smell you." The alpha's voice comes roaring through just as Lucian opens the door to the office.

"I'm s... sorry I didn't mean to eavesdrop I just wanted to help... my mother was killed by vampires when I was five, ever since then every chance I got I was training to hunt vampires, I just thought I could help…" I stammer out not making eye contact with the alpha knowing full well it'd mean a challenge. He was taller than Lucian, but not by much a couple inches at most. Same shaggy blonde hair and olive complexion, but his dad had deep brown eyes circled by laugh lines. He seemed like a good honest man, a good alpha, but he also didn't seem like the type I'd want to mess with.

"Lucian? Who is she?" his father turns his fiery gaze onto his son.

"Dad, this is Ella formerly of the Blood Moon Pack, my mate." he replies with an air of pride around him, mate that word again Rhea hadn't stopped since we had met Lucian, yet he just said it so nonchalantly like it was set in stone. I guess it was since the Moon Goddess chooses our mates, but still I didn't know for sure if we were or not. The truth just smacked me in the face. His father stood there awestruck, before quickly recovering. He turns back to me with a smile on his face.

"Welcome to the Silver Moon Pack Ella, it's an honor to meet you. I'd like to hear your ideas. How should we handle the vampire attacks?"
