Chapter 1 - How it began

There was once a small town closed off from any large cities in a remote and barely known area in Europe, the people were secretive and outside ways were scarcely even looked upon, they liked their lives as they were and dwelled in the mystic and unknown.

Even technology was barely accepted, with very few advancements allowed in.

Seven years ago on October the 25th, when the moon was at it's peak, something happened that would forever scar that mass of land, it was there that an abominable evil was discovered.

It was there that she appeared for the first time.

Four teens dresses in school uniform, three girls wearing white tall sleeved blouses with red ties and plain blue pleated skirts accompanied one guy also in plain whites with a red tie and pants.

They were walking down an unpaved grassy road, surrounded by trees as far as you could see in every other direction they were miles away from civilisation.

They were all silent, enjoying their evening journey back from the town when they came to a turn that went two ways. The girl heading the group of four kept walking but the other three stopped and passed glances at each other.

Of the three, the girls were twins while the boy looked a little older, all with dark brown hair and even darker eyes.

Kay on the other hand, had blue eyes that seemed to have an ever-glow with black straight hair and a tan that seemed out of place considering the amount of sunlight that the area got.

"Hey Kayla, our parents are letting us out tonight again, you've been refusing every time, cooped up every moon for years now but it's your birthday today, you gotta come out." The guy of the three said, causing her to stop and turn.

She tightened her backpack and smiled sadly. "Sorry Henry, but I can't." She replied kicking grass. "You guys know this by now, I've been banned from going out once the moon is bigger than a half, it's just a shame that my birthday is on a full moon this time, but maybe next year."

"Kay, you're turning fourteen, you're already behind when it comes to ceremonial hunts because of your mom, you're in line to be our next Alpha you should have been hunting since birth." Tara, one of the twins said seriously.

"You know how she is, Tara." Kay said turning her back and walking away again. "I'll see you in three days."

"Kay at least ask her, it's Henry's initiation into the pack tonight too y'know!" Tera, the other of the twin shouted. "If nothing works you can always just sneak out!"

"I'll try!" Kay shouted back before sprinting off and vanishing out of sight within seconds.

"I bet Ms. Gayle doesn't even know that her daughter is already faster than the pack." Henry slung his bag over his shoulder and walked off. "She's gonna be an amazing alpha for sure."

Another hour passed before Kay stopped running when she reached an asphalt clearing that surrounded a large house that was shaded by huge trees from every angle.

Mumbling to herself she walked across the asphalt and to the front door, but before she could touch it was swung open and a woman looking like an older version of Kay came rushing out.

She grabbed Kay and began examining her, opening her mouth and checking her teeth, peering her eyes open and checking the scalp or her head. "Mom-mom! I'm here relax! The sun literally just went down!" Kay snapped grabbing her mother's hands. "I swear it's the same thing every moon with you."

"How many times do I have to explain this to you?" Her mother snapped worriedly as she took her hand and dragged her inside. "You're dangerous on a full moon very dangerous, even now as an uninitiated beta you're almost as strong as I am, imagine what happens when you're under the influence of a full moon?"

"That's impossible, you have power I can't even fathom yet, don't go making stories up to cover your insecurities mom." She snapped back as she was subjected to another examination.

"Get your stuff and go down to the dungeon."

Kay froze, and turned toward the kitchen's door to see her father staring back at her. "Dad.. c'mon, it's not even properly sundown yet."

"Now." He turned his back and went back to cooking. "Don't argue with your mother, she's the alpha."

"Kay, I'm just trying to protect you, and everyone else as well." Her mom said taking her bag and leading her up the stairs by hand. "You know I only want what's best-"

"You might be something of the perfect alpha, but as a purebred Alpha-Hound, born of two whose supposed to have been alphas as well, your powers of leadership are lacking, and your abilities as a mother even mo.. hey.. ah!"

Kay suddenly winced when the grip on her hand tightened to unbearable degrees. Her mother dragged her into her room and closed the door. "Think what you will of me, but as far as our family, our pack goes.. keeping you locked away is completely necessary, I don't care if you hate me because of it, the fact is, you're far too dangerous on a full moon." She said taking up Kay's sheets and pillow.

"Why don't you just leave those, I never use them anyway." She mumbled, looking to the floor and not daring to look at her mother while her eyes burned crimson.

"You're much older now, and as you grow, so too will your strength, so when you regain consciousness tomorrow, I'll explain why you never remember what happens on a full moon." She smiled still taking the sheets and pillows with her. "Come."

"Why not tell me now?" Kay asked leaping down the stairs. "I'll listen."

"Kay!" Her father shouted suddenly looming over her with his back turned, eyes red and sweat pouring down his face. "Hurry." He whimpered as blood slowly trickled down from his arms.

"Katherine!" He roared, trying and failing to hold his wife back as her instincts overshadowed her sense and caused her to attack Kay. "Calm down!"

"How can I calm myself?" Katherine asked, a smoothly furred black tail was behind her swaying, and her entire presence was blooming with danger. "Let me at her! Release me!"

Kay still hadn't moved a muscle, her mind had almost gone blank at the sight of her mother gouging giant scars in her father's forearms as he tried to protect her. "M-mom, did I say something wrong?"

"Just listen and go already!" He snapped just before Katherine completely overpowered him, slamming him into the floor and leaving a hole as she raised him by his leg and threw him across the room, causing everything in his path to either get upturned or smashed before he collided into the fridge.

Now unrestrained, Katherine turned around and looked at Kay, her eyes burning bright and her hair standing on end.

She sprang at her daughter with a roar that shook the very house, so loud the entire forest probably heard it.

Kay dove beneath the attack and sprang back to her feet just long enough to see her mother's hand before it landed in her chest, leaving four deep gashes and throwing her across the room.

Her father caught her from the air and landed, protecting her from any more injuries. "She's the one that should be in the dungeon!" Kay screeched as she coughed up blood.

"No, you're the one who will need to be there." He said before placing her down. "I have to calm her down, so hurry down and lock the door behind yourself!" He said before letting off a loud roar that also rung throughout the forest.

At this very same moment, the last light of sun faded. And before her father could react, Kay flashed passed him and landed three large slashes across her mother's torso.

"Kay!" Her dad shouted, quickly grabbing her hands before she could strike her mother a fourth time.

Her consciousness slowly returned and she gasped at her mother beneath her, who had also regained her composure.

"I.. didn't mean to."

"Get her down there before she blacks out again." Katherine wheezed and stood hugging herself. "I'm going outside."

Without even putting her back down, her father carried her by her hands suspended in the air to the back of the house and to the reinforced door. "What's wrong with me?"

"I won't tell you that it's not your fault.. part of the blame is yours, you should've listened." He replied before pushing her and closing the reinforced steel door and sliding down to his knees. "You're different, you have something inside of you that's monstrous."

"Dad.."

"We couldn't restrain you this time, you may have to start avoiding going out anymore if you continue like this constantly." He continued. "If you're out under a full moon and lose control, there's none in the pack with the power to stop you without using deadly force, injuring you to the point of death."

"What's wrong with me?" She began crying. "What happened to me to cause all of this?" She banged against the door, growling both from anger and frustration.

"Only your mother knows."

He suddenly stood up and turned away. "Kay?"

There was no response for a few seconds then from outside he heard Katherine scream Kay's name, suddenly his fears came racing back.

"Shit."
