Arch-Duke Frasier Barxoes paces back and forth in the meeting room, and I'm feeling what he's looking like. Feroxes Iremon, our level 880 Exotic Grade Adventurer, is waiting for the personal message from the Emperor and his council with us. He's integral in our search for The Darkness Incarnate, and we'll need him for the action we're undertaking.
Defying the Order of Religions is near suicidal, and that's why we're waiting for the word of the royal family. If we have their support, we'll work in the shadows and try to find The Darkness Incarnate before it's too late if we don't have the royal family's support. There is nothing we can do. We don't have enough backing for this mission without them.
My eyes close, and I think about all the things that are happening... The arrival of the players, and what that entails. The sudden increase in monsters and dungeons... The discovery and existence of The Darkness Incarnate... "How much longer is it going to be!!?" Arch-Duke Fraiser isn't an impatient man. It's the severity of this situation that makes him act this way.
Feroxes Iremon lets out a long sigh as he leans back in his chair, staring at the ceiling above him. "Time is integral in this quest... If we allow The Darkness Incarnate to grow without interfering, no one can stop him... Not even the Gods that watch over our world..." Feroxes is right. Once The Darkness Incarnate gains enough power, not even the Gods will stop him.
Some people can rival the strength of the Gods but not outright kill or defeat them. Their mortality stops them from doing so cause only a God can kill another God. The Darkness Incarnate is an exception to this since he's neither mortal nor Immortal. A fundamental part of existence can't be overcome, God or not. The Darkness was here before any of them.
The Darkness was here before any Light or life existed, and it'll remain once it's all gone. An incomprehensible power that can't be understood with mortal minds. Lady Zelli has started to descend into madness since experiencing The Darkness, and our best healers are trying to repair her mind. I'm worried I might suffer a similar fate.
There is a gentle knock on the door, and Arch-Duke Fraiser races to the handle and swings it open. A royal courier stands in the doorway, holdout a piece of paper. The royal family doesn't communicate with magical projections since those can be seen using specific magic. Hence why the use of couriers is implemented.
Arch-Duke Fraiser takes the paper and unrolls it, and slowly starts to read it. He isn't loud enough for all of us to hear, and his reaction becomes grimmer and grimmer. "The royal family says they're not going to help us... Defying the Order of Religions isn't a risk they want to take..." I can understand that. There is only one place that everyone respects, no matter your ranking.
The Order of Religions doesn't have authority in the politics of Empires and Kingdoms, but it does have the power to wage war on any Empire or Kingdom in all of Libertas. They have endless resources and billions of supporters. "I have one solution..." Our eyes fall on Feroxes, and he stops leaning back in his chair.
My eyes and mind are completely focused on what he's about to say. "I can take a group of the strongest adventurers I know, and we can track him down. It's smarter to use a single group of powerful individuals than an entire network of weaker ones. The likelihood hood of being found out is low." This is the next best option, and I can see it working. Having a private and hidden group search for The Darkness Incarnate is better than thousands.
We can avoid the eyes of the Order of Religions and have plausible deniability. "Name your price, Feroxes. I'll see that you and your allies are fully compensated for this undertaking." There is only one problem with this plan. We don't know where to start looking and who we're searching for. All we know is the player will have a Jet Black title above his head called The Darkness Incarnate and then his name.
Players have the option to hide those features, just like we do. We're essentially looking for a needle in a haystack.
