~~~(POV: Lyatt Scott)~~~
~~~(Time: 6:21 AM)~~~
I back away from the family. I didn't stop to think about how this will affect them. Seeing something like that isn't normal. I need to be careful when using my powers. Not everyone understands the role Darkness plays. That I'm playing in this world. I turn on the path and start walking again—no reason to stay here. As I walk away, I can hear the shuffling of movement behind me. "Don't look at him, kids..." The mother whispers to her children as they make their way back to the carriage. I'd better prepare for more instances like this.
As I walk, time passes, and my mana has fully regenerated. I'm the only one walking this isolated path. It's poetic and ironic at the same time. I haven't contacted my friends yet, and I don't think I'll be doing so. They're suspects in my murder. I'm going to have to figure out who did it as time goes on. Retracing my steps seems like the logical thing to do. With the knowledge I have now, doing what I did before is a waste of time and effort. I spent a week in the city I first spawned in. Learning about the economy and not growing as fast as I could.
While grinding to level 5 is a must if I want to take Grant's ring, I know of efficient ways to do so. Now that I'm armed with a powerful class, it shouldn't take that long. There is a place near Nettleton where a lot of monsters reside. Most are Common and Uncommon monsters. The ones I'm going to be hunting are Rare monsters. There is an unknown feature as of right now. Suppose you kill large amounts of monsters, Common and Uncommon, for example. It'll attract higher graded monsters. They follow the same ranking as everything else does.
Common and Uncommon monsters release an odor when they're killed. It actually has a name. It's called fear secretion. Every weak and low-grade creature releases this when they die. Cause they fear death greatly. Higher-grade monsters consume the bodies of weaker monsters. It was never understood why, but many theorized that it was population control. Something I also thought was possible—monsters at the Rare grade and higher start to make leaps and bounds in intelligence. I've been walking for a few hours now.
It's starting to really warm up from this morning's chill. As I'm walking the path, I see some people up ahead. They're in player starting gear. I'm surprised that someone's actually out this far. I'm walking a very remote path. The closest place to me right now is Horris, and they weren't there. I continue walking towards them since there standing in the middle of the path. They hear and see me coming and stop what they're talking about. "Let's ask him! He's a player like us! He might know where to go!" It's a group of friends, 2 females and 2 males.
I'd guess the oldest is the taller male, 22, and the youngest is the shortest girl at 19. These are guesses, though. The youngest starts waving for me to hurry up, but I keep my pace. Eventually, I'm only a few feet away from the group. "Do you happen to know where the nearest teleportation gate is? My sister accidentally used our Waystone, and now we're in the middle of nowhere." They had a Waystone? Those are pretty expensive in shops. They allow you to travel up to 150 miles in any direction. If you don't give a specific one, it's random.
Hence why they're here in the middle of nowhere. "I'm heading to a town that has a broken down one. We can repair it, and you can use it to get back to where you came from." I get my voice low and neutral, and before they can respond, I start walking again. "I'm not going to wait for you guys, so if you want a quick way out of your situation, then follow." I keep walking as I talk. After a couple of seconds, I hear footsteps behind me. This will make the dungeon easier to clear. If they want to help, that is, but I have to level first. I know they do too.
