Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 15: The nightmare

KEDIAN P.O.V

The ultrasound showed that the little baby growing inside El was perfectly fine. That news came as a relief to Kedian. El was exhausted and must not have slept the night before. After the visit with Cadrian she crawled into the back seat and was asleep in seconds leaving Kedian alone with his thoughts.

Try as he might, he could not stop thinking about Dresca and how his life would be so different if she had lived. If she had lived he never would've had the courage to stand up to his dad and older brother. He never would've left the pack, which meant he never would've joined the marines. Therefore he wouldn't have met Han. And he never would have thought of building his dads failing business into the thriving security company it was today. Then he never would've met El.

If even one of these things didn't happen the end result would have been very, very different. He felt a wave of guilt wash over him again as he pulled up to the pack house. Dresca was dead and gone and no amount of wishing was ever going to bring her back. Kedian had accepted this along time ago. He had not even thought about Dresca in years. So why was he thinking of her now? He heard a knock on his window and jumped, surprised to see Kendrelous standing next to the car.

"Yeah?" He asked as he pushed the door open.

"dude, I've been trying to get your attention for thirty minutes now. Are you okay?" He looked at El snuggled in the back seat and slammed the door for Kedian. "Is it-"

"Everything is fine, Kendrelous. I was just lost in thought." El Stepped out of the car and looked around groggily as she stretched her whole body.

"Where are we?" She asked when she realized that she had no memory of this place.

"This is the pack house." Kedian smiled gently at her as he took her hand and started to pull her towards the door. "I didn't sleep last night and it is closer to Cadrian's office than the house."

"Oh. Okay." She looked as if she was thinking about something. "I need to use the ladies room." He chuckled and lead her into his bedroom. After she used the bathroom they curled up on the enormous bed and soon she was asleep again. This time in his arms. he laid there as his head filled with the images of the past he had tried to let go of.

"Why can't I get you out of my head, Dresca?" He asked aloud. El stirred but didn't wake. He was grateful that she didn't. He buried his nose in her hair and closed his eyes. Finally sleep took him.

"Kedian! Help her!" Dresca screamed at him from across a flooded river. Her Blonde hair was thrashing wildly in the wind. Her eyes were wet and tears were streaming down her beautiful face. "You have to help her! Please Kedian! You have to help her!" She looked to her left and sprinted into the trees on the opposite bank.

"Help who? Dresca please come back! I don't understand! Help who? Dresca please don't leave me!" Suddenly he saw a flash of vivid red in the white of the swollen rapids. "EL!" Kedian cried as he ran along the bank. He was unable to force himself into the river and unable to reach her from here.

"Kedian! Help!! I can't swim!!!" She was screaming at him to save her but he couldn't.

"I'M COMING EL!! HOLD ON!!!"

"SAVE OUR BABY!!!!" He looked over and saw a large baby carriage just inside the trees and, to his horror, a baby was crying inside. He saw his father in wolf form stalking closer and closer to it. He tried to run for it but the trees seemed so far away. And an invisible force pulled at him, stopping him from closing the distance. His father's head dipped down into the carriage and he yanked a small bundle of blankets up and shook his head violently back and forth. Blood sprayed everywhere. The baby's cries were silenced just like that. He turned back to the river and saw his brother's wolf holding El's head by the hair in his teeth. Her once forest green eyes now dull and lifeless.

"NO!!!!!" Kedian roared as he sat up in bed drenched in a cold sweat. The sky outside the window was pink. El rushed out of the bathroom looking terrified. Her blood red hair was wet and hanging down her back to her knees.

"Kedian! What's wrong? I could feel your fear. Did something happen?" She was looking around wildly as she spoke, trying to find the threat that didn't exist.

"El." Her name came out as a strangled sob. He was relieved that she was okay. He leapt from the bed and scooped her into his arms as he sat in his large, over stuffed arm chair in the bay window. "Oh thank goddess. It was just a nightmare." He sobbed as he held her close to him and breathed her scent in like it was the last time he would ever see her. His body was shaking violently. He could not bring himself to care. Nor could he bring himself to let go of her. After a while of holding her there was a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" She yelled as she tried to extract herself from his arms. No way in hell was he going to let her go.

'Alpha! there's been an incident! You're needed.' Kendrelous linked him.

'Are you at the door?'

'I wasn't sure if you were awake or not so I thought it best to get your attention before trying to link. Enson's mate started screaming and suddenly collapsed. Drewcella told me to get you so...' Kedian set El on her feet as he realized she was naked.

"Get dressed. Erza and Nathaniel are here. Erza started to scream and then just collapsed." He told her as he walked to the door and she ducked back into the bathroom where she must have left her clothes. He struggled to open the door as he was still shaking.

In the weeks after Dresca's death he had had many nightmares that had left him shaking uncontrollably. But this one felt different some how. Try as he might he couldn't bring himself to stop shaking. Normally he could stop the shaking by sheer force of will but this time his whole body seemed unwilling to heed his comands. 'It's unlocked.' He growled to Kendrelous.

"Kedian that is not cool. If yo..... Hey, are you okay? Dude you're shaking! Did something happen to El? Where is she?" Kendrelous was looking around the room as if he would find El's body bleeding out in a corner.

"What? No! Nothing happened to El. She's fine. It was just....." He started shaking harder as the images of the nightmare ran through his head. How could he explain to Kendrelous with out driving him to drown his pain once again? Should he tell Kendrelous at all?

"DUDE! That's fucked up! No wonder you're shaking! The pack can't see you like this. I'll tell Drewcella that you're not here. I ca-"

"No! I just need a minute." He scurbed his face with his hands as tears threatened to spill from his eyes. El rushed out of the bathroom. His time was up. He knew El would not wait for him. She would rush to Erza's side. He took a deep breath and steadied himself as he took her hand. Ready or not it was time to face his pack.
