Chapter 3 - Bittersweet Love

Soft foot falls echoed through the silent halls. The curtains swayed elegantly as the midnight breeze rolled throw the windows. The moon shined softly creating shadows along the walls.

A figure walked through the halls, her dress flowing behind her. Her face powder perfectly and her dirty blonde hair put up in fancy braid's. Her sparkling green eyes were filled with hope and excitement as she approached her destination.

The music from the ball room bounced along the walls and reached her ears making her heart beat rapidly.

There she stood infront of the two grand doors were the soft music was coming from. Nervously she wiped her sweaty palms and hesitantly reached for the door.

A flicker of sadness blitzed through her beating heart but she was quick to shove it away.

'No, he'll be here', she reassured herself, 'and he'll be waiting for me'.

Shakily her pale hands pushed open the grand doors and her eyes squinted from the brightness of the room. Expecting the people's attention to suddenly turn to her, she was left shocked.

The people, as if in a trance, all had their eyes on the couple dancing in the middle.

The woman's hand shook and she gripped her dress tightly as tears threatened to spill.

Her one and only love was dancing with someone else, the one she was so desperately trying to keep away from him. She understood that her partner was supposed to dance with other people but when she saw the way he looked at her-.

He never looked at her that way which shattered her even more. They both gazed so lovingly into each other's eyes, it was almost sickening.

As if her life couldn't have gotten any worse!! She lost everything. Her depression had gotten so bad that she wanted to end her life. But then he showed up.

He was her light, her savoir. Her promised her everything. But that was all a lie now.

Not able to hold it back any longer, she rushed out of the ball room and through the halls. The tears flowed and wouldn't stop coming. Her feet didn't stop untill she reached the entrance.

It was raining outside but she didn't care. Tearing the doors open she stood and let the rain poor down on her skinny figure.

Her nails dug into arms as she held herself, making blood drip to the wet marble floor. In her heart she knew this would happen, she had read the signs but ignored them any way.

'Why do I always end up doing this to myself?! It's my fault I'm like this. I could have easily avoided these kind of situations but decided to dive in anyway. And now I can't reach the surface, I've gone too deep this time', she reached up and ruffly wiped away her tears but they were to stubborn. She had been holding them in for so long that they just couldn't stop now.

The blonde jumped slightly when the door burst open again. A man burst through the doors and fell to the floor weeping.

The women recognized him as her rivals friend. She had seen the way he looked at his friend and had often wished her love looked at her that way.

'I guess we both fell in love with the wrong people', she knelt beside the ravenet and placed her cold hand on his damp shoulder.

His blue eyes shot up and lit up in anger.

"You?!", he spudderd frustratingly, "You're the friend of that, that vile man and now he- he stole her away from me!!".

She nodded sadly and set down beside him.

"Aren't you crazily in love with him?", he gazed at her in hatred.

"I was", her voice was but a broken whisper as her sad eyes looked up into his, "But I guess it was one sided".

The man frowned when he saw her broken look, "I guess we're one in the same", he laughed dryly, "both with broken hearts".

She only sighed in reply and reached up to let her hair fall to her shoulders. Once again she tried to wipe her tears away but failed since the rain was pouring straight on her.

The ravenet too sighed and got up. He left her shocked when he held out his hand to her.

"Shall we?", He smiled.

She smiled back and grasped his large hand and released a squeak when he pulled her into his arms.

Creating their own little orchestra they danced along to their imaginary music. It was but a bittersweet lullaby.

She imagined herself dancing in the great ball room, in her love's arms. His strong arms wrapped around her small waist as she had hers around his neck. They would both be drowning in each other's gaze, never to reach the surface. His blonde hair would be slicked back handsomely and his body would smell of pine and lavender.

He imagined holding his love in his arms. Her soft hand would be wound around his neck as they'd sway to the music. Her brunette hair would be in loose curls and she'd smell of roses like the ones he gave her oh so long ago.

They were both so lovesick as they danced in the cold rain soaked to the bone but yet not caring.

One in the same.
