Chapter 6 - My Seatmate is A Mousey Little Geek

"You may sit beside Mr. Mo at the back beside the right window." The baldy teacher said.

"En." Shu Chuanli nodded, and took off his backpack as he sat beside the window and Mo Aini. He mumbled to himself, "Yes, I got the anime protagonist window seat!"

Mo Aini cleared his throat, and introduced himself. "Hi, my name is Mo Aini."

"Cool. You know mine already, I just said it earlier." Shu Chuanli said, then ignored him, minding his own business. The baldy teacher went on to explain the topics that they will be covering for the first few months, and Shu Chuanli listened carefully, leaving Mo Aini hanging.

He was more antisocial than Mo Aini initially thought. One moment he was bright and seems to be good-humored, then he becomes cold and aloof the next.

The hologram profile showed up beside him.

[NAME

Shu Chuanli

CHARACTER ROLE

Love Interest, the smart otaku with socialization issues

PERSONALITY

Quick-witted, intelligent, pessimistic, and introverted

BACKSTORY

Shu Chuanli was usually mistaken as an easygoing guy, but he has deep anxieties for himself. He dreams to be a famous manga artist and draws fanart that he posts on his alter ego Twitter account. He loves 2D girls more than 3D ones, with the exception of the MC.

He can get out of trouble easily through his flexible mind. If he was interested in studying more, he could have been top of the school ranks, but he was stuck in Class D due to his personality and not getting involved in extracurriculars. He likes sweets and pastries, especially those that remind him of his favorite magical girl character. He doesn't get scared of haunted houses but was too afraid to ride rollercoasters and other thrilling rides. (He had never been to one his whole life).

If he can avoid it, he would not go out of his room at all and busy himself playing games, reading manga, or drawing fan art. Despite his awkwardness and short height, he has a unique charm that draws women into him. Especially otakus and outcasts like himself, who find him relatable. His downfall is that he doesn't have much courage to speak up his true feelings and hides it away with excuses.

MUSICAL VOICE

Light-hearted and fun, good for songs with a comedic undertone

MOTTO

"The real world sucks, but in this world, the only thing that's stopping you from being the protagonist of your own story is yourself."]

Mo Aini felt like he was looking at an evaluation of himself from all the descriptions minus the antisocial behavior and being smart.

He can relate to Shu Chuanli a lot as a fellow otaku, but it's difficult to get his attention and befriend him for his plans. He needed to find a way to strike a conversation with him without him chickening out or getting bored.

After the class, he approached Shu Chuanli as lunch has started.

"Hey, um.... Have you heard about the new 'goddess' that arrived in school? Everyone has been talking about her." Mo Aini felt like he was going to puke when he said the word 'goddess'.

"A goddess statue? Was it really that good for people to talk about it?" Shu Chuanli asked, confused.

"No, I meant this.... really pretty girl that transferred to Nushen." Mo Aini tried to spit out the 'really pretty girl' out of his mouth without cringing. "Here, I'll show you what she looks like."

He took out his phone and searched for pictures of Mo Jiagei on Weibo. He eventually found one and showed it to Shu Chuanli, who was yawning at muttering to himself about something he can't hear.

When he showed the picture, Shu Chuanli was suddenly quiet, staying completely still.

"So what do you think? She's really pretty, isn't she?" Mo Aini was trying so hard not to laugh at these men getting starstruck at his plain-faced sister.

"Is that really.... what she looks like?" Shu Chuanli finally managed to say. "No filter?"

"Nope, I saw her just now. There's no filter in this picture...." Though it would be better if there was, he thought. "Her name is Mo Jiagei, she's in the same year as we are."

Shu Chuanli took his phone, hypnotized. "I have found you...."

Found who now? Mo Aini was weirded out by this geek's behavior.

"I have found you!" Shu Chuanli held up the phone like he had just won the lottery and it was his lottery ticket. "You were real! My Sakuranohime-chan!!!! You have come to life!"

"Um...could you give my phone back?" Mo Aini tried to avoid the strange looks that the other mob characters are shooting at him and Shu Chuanli, who was still rejoicing at finding this 'Sakuranohime-chan'. "What are you even talking about?"

"Mo-kun, can't you see? She looks exactly like Sakuranohime from Rabu Rabu Magical Kamisama!" Shi Chuanli grabbed his own phone from his pocket, searching for something. "Look, look! See?"

He showed a picture of an anime girl in a pink sailor outfit with a high ponytail and full bangs. She really does look like the carbon copy of Mo Jiagei, just in a different art style!

"I wouldn't expect a normie like you to know her, but you can't deny they look similar, right?" Shu Chuanli's lips lifted from excitement. "Wahhh, sugoi~ She's so kawaii! I want to see her for myself to make sure she's real!"

Mo Aini wanted to argue that he was in no way a 'normie', but Shu Chuanli was right anyway. He doesn't know any of the anime in this world.

But what a coincidence that one of them looks exactly like his sister! This must be a plot point on purpose.

"It seems like fate, huh?" He leaned on Shu Chuanli's shoulder. "I mean, what are the odds that your waifu would look like this person? You are destined for each other!"

"Really? You think so?" Shu Chuanli's eyeglasses went askew from Mo Aini leaning on him.

"I know so! You should follow her everywhere and take pictures of her!" Mo Aini winked. "That way you could compare how much she and Sakuranohime-chan are alike!"

This was his master plan: to transform the mousey little geek character of Shu Chuanli into an obsessed, stalker yandere!

His first encounter with Mo Jiagei should be that he trails her around during lunch. Taking pictures with his phone, Mo Jiagei would catch a flash from her peripheral vision. But when she turns around, she was only left by a creepy feeling that someone was stalking her and taking pictures of her....

She will walk towards the direction of the flash and find a single red rose with a letter. Then, when she picks it up, she will read: "You are the cat and I am the mouse*. Try and chase me if you can, for I am yours."

Then, she would 'accidentally' see a green-haired guy with glasses hiding in the shadows, an unhinged smile on his face.

Mo Aini felt like a genius for thinking of such a clever yandere scene! Mo Jiagei would definitely go for Shu Chuanli for sure!

He explained this plan to Shu Chuanli, who paid much attention. When he was finished, the nerdy otaku frowned.

"That seems like a scene from a yandere anime." Shu Chuanli thought.

"Exactly! That's Mo Jiagei's type!" Mo Aini told him.

"Really? How do you know?" Shu Chuanli asked.

"I know her more than you think, trust me." Mo Aini said. "We're.... related."

"Oh, that makes sense. I thought that you two just happened to have Mo as your surnames." Shu Chuanli nodded, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Is she your cousin or something?"

"Yeah, you could say that." Mo Aini lied through his teeth.

Shu Chuanli observed Mo Aini's features. He had the same full bangs and eye shape as Mo Jiagei. They also have the same normal black hair and dark brown eyes. In the real world, this would be described as plain-looking. But because of the halo effect on Mo Jiagei, it looked stunning. Mo Aini also has the same effect, but slightly lesser because he was just a side character.

"Ok. Then I trust you on this." Shu Chuanli nodded. "But when shall we put this strategy into effect?"

"Right now." Mo Aini said, grinning widely.

"Right now? But it's lunchtime." Shu Chuanli's stomach made a thunderous sound. "I'm hungry."

Mo Aini grumbled. "We can't waste any time! The great Sakuranohime-chan is waiting for us—"

His stomach growled in hunger as well.

"Yeah, I guess it could wait for a while. Let's eat." Mo Aini sighed.

They both had lunch together and talked about several things like Mo Jiagei, anime girls, and how much fiction is better than reality. Shu Chuanli never expected that they would have so many things in common, he only talked about this stuff with his online friends. They laughed and joked around each other, immediately becoming close buddies.

"Mo-gongzi!" Gou Manchu waved from afar, holding his own tray. "Sorry, I was late. Coach made us practice over time because of the upcoming game season."

"Oh, Gou Manchu. You're here." Mo Aini had forgotten about Gou Manchu since he was his unsuccessful first experiment.

"Who's your new friend?" He sat beside Mo Aini and greeted Shu Chuanli. "Hi, I'm Gou Manchu! Most of my friends call me Gou-man*, but Mo-gongzi here never used nicknames. You can call me that if you want. What's your name?"

Shu Chuanli suddenly went quiet and uneasy. Mo Aini figured he was not used to interacting with overly friendly strangers like Gou Manchu.

"....Shu Chuanli." He answered softly. "Mo-kun, I'm finished eating. Your friend is here, I'm going now. We could meet up at the spot later."

"Ok..." Mo Aini took a sip from his orange juice drink from a straw. "I'll meet you there."

Shu Chuanli hurriedly left, like a scared little kid who gets shy around a certain type of people.

"Is he okay?" Gou Manchu asked worriedly.

Mo Aini nodded. "Yeah, he's just timid around others. You're a jock too and he's a nerd so he must have thought it would be difficult to get along with you."

"Is that so?" Gou Manchu frowned, munching on his mashed potatoes. "Anyway, Mo-gongzi, I was wondering if you're free to—"

Gou Manchu was interrupted when a heated argument stirred in the middle of Nushen High's cafeteria.

"Shitty bastard, I know you did it on purpose!" A man with a buzz cut and stud earrings yelled. His shirt was soaking from the red punch.

"So what if I did? It's just an ugly uniform anyway, go have your mother wash it for you." A man with dyed blond hair said. His long, spiky hair was slicked back and an orange tiger-striped jacket hanged over his shoulders like a cape. He wasn't wearing a uniform, but a black shirt with tattered sleeves.

Mo Aini couldn't see his face from this angle, but he could tell the tiger-jacket guy was sneering.
