She felt her heartbeat echoing in her ears as she finally made her way back into her apartment, and proceeded to join her roommates that were waiting for her return in the living room.
"Girls, you will not believe what did just happened to me." She expressed herself quite loudly, thing that made Sophia fly up from the couch startled and awaken from her own anxious thoughts regarding her ex, which had yet to subside inside her.
"Don't tell me the supermarket was out of ice cream cause I will freak out!" Lisa told her with a worried expression written all over her face, not finding any shame to present that for her that was the biggest tragedy that could happen.
"Jeez, only food is in your mind." Sophia sighed in disappointment at her friend's reaction and visible lack of consideration.
"Hey, are you listening to me? I am suffering here! I am telling you, I was in the elevator and suddenly entered a cuttie, to die for..." Dimitra looked them straight in the eyes with eyes wide full of enthusiasm and energy as she was ready to gossip about this.
"What breed was it?" Lisa cut her off casually causing both her friends to give her a confused look.
"What? Aren't we talking about a dog?" Lisa crooked an eyebrow at them as she had assumed that Dimitra was referring to some dog since she had a weak spot for them and always tended to get over-excited whenever she would come across a puppy in the streets.
"What dog?! I am talking about a whole man, girl. Six feet tall - Or so I assume cause I obviously didn't measure him- He approached me on the elevator and as he came closer, I freaked out and slapped him but fortunately he was not a weirdo and wanted to get something that had gotten stuck in my hair." Dimitra explained, letting a huff of disappointment follow her words as she surely felt embarrassed and guilty for basically having hit someone without a valid reason.
" You are not in your right mind girl. Shall I remind you that you already have a boyfriend? "Sophia pointed out while taking her seat again on the couch, arms crossed over her chest as she eyed Dimitra.
" I know! I can still appreciate someone's beauty you know. It's not like I flirted with him or anything and besides Joel has been busy lately, and I am feeling neglected...Ahhh, I miss him so much." Dimitra's facial expression shifted to a frown as she left the bag that contained what she brought on the table then proceeded to take her seat on the carpet, feeling slightly more down than she was a minute ago.
" For your good, I hope it's how you say it is, cause if you dare hurt my best friend, we are gonna fight real bad. "Lisa gave her a stern look before she grabbed the ice cream -heading to the kitchen to find herself a spoon and dig in while reminding Dimitra that her boyfriend Joel was as much of a friend to her as she was and she in no way was going to support any actions behind anyone's back.
" Sophia, wasn't it today that your boyfriend would drop by, so we can finally get to know him? "Dimitra rolled her eyes at the way Lisa tended to get everything too seriously unnecessarily then changed the subject, feeling instantly a little impatient to meet Sophia's boyfriend that she has heard so much about.
" Yes, finally. You have been in a relationship with him for 4 months and we still don't know that dude's face. "Lisa's voice was heard from the kitchen and Sophia couldn't help but crack a smile because her voice sounded muffled, her mouth probably being full of ice cream as she spoke.
" He will drop by in any minute now. He also told me that he has a surprise for me today." Just as Sophia finished her sentence, the door's bell rang, making her stand up to go get the door-now full of enthusiasm- as she assumed who it was going to be while Lisa quickly placed the ice cream on the fridge and returned by Dimitra's side, both gathering themselves a bit in hopes of making a friendly first impression to this mystery man their friend was dating.
Sophia reached the door and took a deep breath before placing her hand on the knob and swinging the door open with a smile on her face that grew wider upon facing her boyfriend. Yashiro or Shiro, as most of his friends, called him for short.
She pecked his lips without hesitation before inviting him inside but her smile froze along with her words once she noticed that he wasn't alone and by his side at some feet distance, there stood a group of guys.
"I brought some of my friends along. I hope that it's not a problem." Shiro said with a smile on his lips before proceeding to take on her invitation and step inside the apartment.
Sophia retreated herself at the corner, making way for the 4 boys to enter. Her head hanging low as they passed her by, in an attempt to not make eye contact with one of her boyfriend's friends whom she, unfortunately, knew really well.
Her thoughts had been scattered right that moment and her legs had started feeling weak but she couldn't help but make herself aware that if she was to fall into nervousness and crises right this moment, things would go south for her, so she took a deep breath and with hurried steps, joined the guests to the living room and made her way beside her boyfriend's side.
"So girls, this is my boyfriend Shiro that I talked to you about." Sophia started making the introductions, thanking the lord inwardly that she spoke naturally and did not stutter because certainly seeing her ex out of a sudden in front of her eyes had impacted her emotions more than she had herself capable to hide.
"Shiro, these are my friends, Dimitra and Lisa." She finished up the introductions, now a little sweat having made its way on her forehead and her smile feeling -to her- as if it was too awkward to be believed.
Shiro brought his lips to a thin line as he reached out his hand for a handshake to Dimitra which she gladly accepted, exchanging a typical "Nice to meet you."
Then he passed his gaze to the person next to her which was non-other than Lisa. The two froze upon meeting each other's eyes briefly then their faces as if on cue, fell into unpleasantness. Lisa was giving him a death stare as she brought her hand and received his handshake which she tightened the grip of giving him the message. And he didn't hesitate to express his hate and unfriendly vibes through his cold piercing gaze that filled the atmosphere with a heavy feeling.
Dimitra on the other hand was having a mini break down noticing the guy that she met some minutes earlier on the elevator, now standing inside her living room.
"Won't you introduce your friends too, Shiro?" Sophia broke the silence, wishing inside that her ex wouldn't turn out to be his best friend or something.
"Here we have Jamie, Theo and Jay. They are my roommates and best friends." Shiro said and Sophia cursed her luck in her mind since it was surely playing some dirty games on her today.
"Wait up! Jay? The known Jay?" Lisa exclaimed as she remembered the name of Sophia's ex-boyfriend whom she had only heard off and never seen till today.
As she left those words to escape her mouth she glanced over to Sophia, immediately understanding by her facial expression that what had crossed her mind was true.
"You know each other?" Shiro looked over at his friend with a hint of curiosity that made Jay feel hot under his collar.
"What? Oh yeah... Emm... We met at the University once. Glad to see you again Lisa. What a coincidence to be meeting you here, huh?!" Jay's reply was visibly awkward yet she could tell that he was trying his best to save the situation as he shook Lisa's hand and plastered a happy smile.
Lisa continued his game and patted his shoulder slightly accompanied by a small comment about his hairstyle in an attempt to appear more acquainted with him as she understood that Sophia was not the only one that liked to keep their past a secret.
" Oh! And that one. Isn't he the silly one that you said earlier, Lisa?" Dimitra exclaimed in realization and Lisa turned her way and gave her a death stare, at the way she just exposed her.
"Silly one?" Is she talking about me? "Jamie asked with wide eyes and visible confusion over his face by the use of words she had used to refer to him and Lisa awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck, while giving him an innocent smile and mumbling an apology.
An action that appeared somehow cute in Jamie's eyes and made him loudly exclaim that complement towards her. A simple word that made the others laugh a bit yet for some odd reason, Shiro couldn't help but feel bothered seeing Lisa's playful sweet smile directed at Jamie and his friend literally trying to flirt with her.
Wasn't it a wonder? How can someone dislike someone so much to the point that they hate seeing even the slightest smile on their face?
