Watching Alana grow for Helena was the most amazing and yet hardest thing to do. She reminded her of Valrick, her son. Alana was very naughty but yet shy at the same time. She rarely got angry and had inherited her mother's calm demeanor.
She loved nature very much that she spent most of her time going in adventures in the forest. Maybe that was because she didn't have friends and today is the day Helena had been dreading the most, Alana's sixteenth birthday and as always she was sleeping and going to be late for school.
Helena prepared her bath and went to wake her up.
"Lana."
"Mmmmm" Alana said pulling her blankets to cover her face.
"Alana wake up"
"What the f..."
"Finish that sentence and see what I will do to you."
"Okay fine." Alana said getting up and going to bath. After she was done she went downstairs to find her Nana already preparing breakfast.
"I wonder who invented school Nana, because honestly I hate it there."
She said truthfully because if it were up to her she wouldn't even go. People looked at her weirdly and they hated and bullied her.
Why? Because she was different. She had very beautiful caramel black skin but that was not the problem. She had very long straight hair with a streak or more like the front portion of her hair on the left side being white.
Her eyes were light brown in colour. People always called her names because of her hair. No normal person has hair like that.
There were brunettes, blondes and redheads but white hair was very strange. Her hair was so long that it reached her back.
"Its all because of this stupid hair Nana, why isn't my hair normal Nana?"
"Oh my baby, you are only left with a few years at school just hang on."
"Why do I even need it I can help you with the shop."
Helena had opened a shop here a few years ago. It was more like a herb and spices shop and also a flower shop.
She and Raizana had realized that Alana loved flowers so they grew a small garden for her which turned into a big one and well then into a shop. They earned their living through this and it was paying.
"Remember your dream Lana, that's why you have to go to school so that you can achieve it."
"Fine Nana." She said sighing and then remembered what today was.
"Aren't you forgetting something Nana."
"What?" "Is there something I should be remembering, I mean I have done everything. Woken you up, prepared your bath, breakfast and now am sending you off. So I think I haven't forgotten anything."
Alana looked at her nana with sadness. How could she forget her birthday like this and come to think of it Aunt Raiz hadn't called to wish her too. All of them had forgotten.
"I have to go, I will be late for my lessons."
She took her bag and car keys and went to school.
When Lana left Helena quickly started with the preparations. She hadn't forgotten her granddaughter's birthday. She decorated the whole house. She took her phone to call Raizana.
"Hey, when are you coming here?"
"Patience was never one of your best qualities Helena."
️
"I can't help it Raizana, its her 16th birthday today so you are coming right."
️
"Yes I will come in an hour's time I have a few things to take care of this time."
️
"Okay bye."
️
"Bye Helena."
️
Helena hung up an went to the shop to open it. Raizana had left them when Lana was ten years old. She had to open another Covent outside the country so they hadn't seen her for the past six years.
Alana went to school and as usual it was dead boring so she decided to bunk the last two lessons and went to her favourite eatery to get that burger she had been craving for the whole day. Since no one remembered her birthday she decided why not to spoil herself.
"Lana, its been a long time." The owner said when she saw her. Lana was one of her loyal customers and hadn't seen her these last two weeks.
"Come on gramps you know I told that school has me on tight ropes and we were writing exams you see."
"Okay so what are you ordering."
"The usually Grandma Mave, but double it this time."
"Are you that hungry?" She asked laughing.
"No, not really. You see today is my birthday so I decided to spoil myself."
"Really?" Alana nodded.
"Then how old are you turning today?"
"Am turning sixteen today."
"Wow you are growing my baby and guess what?"
"What?"
"Today you can order anything you want, its on the house."
"What!? Really?" Alana said screaming a little and going to hug the old woman.
"Okay now. I have other customers too so see you."
Mave left and she sat down going through her phone waiting for her order.
"Is this seat taken?" A girl about her age or older said to her snapping her out of her little world.
"No, its not."
"Well can I seat."
"Yes you can."
"Thank God because I didn't want to sit alone." She said sighing and sitting down.
"Am Indigo by the way. Indigo King." Indigo said offering her hand and Alana looked at it not knowing what to do. She asked herself whether to shake it or not. She didn't know how to react to these situations. She has never had someone, especially someone her age talk to her nicely.
"Hello."
Indigo said again snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked at this girl in front of her and she looked very beautiful and somehow was hiding her beauty.
"Um, am sorry I am Alana. Alana White." Alana finally introduced herself.
"Here's your order Alana and what is your friend here going to have?"
Mave said placing the order on the table.
"She's n...." Before Alana could finish Indigo answered. She was going to say she's not her friend.
"Same as hers. That looks delicious." Indigo said looking at that extra big burger and the fries.
"So Alana tell me, how old are you?"
"Well I just turned sixteen today."
"Wow Happy birthday. In my world sixteen is a very special age."
"Why? Because I don't see anything special about it. Its just a number."
"You wouldn't understand. And if I tell you I will have to kill you." She said with a serious face which kinda sent shivers down Alana's spine.
"Am just kidding, lighten up will ya."
"Owh for a second there I thought you were serious."
They talked while eating and Alana really liked Indigo. She was nice.
Indigo was not really one for coming to these restaurants. Due to her family's money and status she always went to those classy restaurant but somehow today everything was just weird.
She had decided to bunk school and her car broke down. As she was just walking by she felt a strong pull to this restaurant and went in. Somehow that pull came from Alana she took in her scent and it was just normal. She was a normal human. Really weird.
