Smacking the ground hard sends a sharp pain through my side. Which is made worse when a body collides into me. Groaning I lift my head up to see Olive against my side, lifting herself into a sitting position.
"Shit… sorry kid." Releasing her wrist, she rubs it sorely.
"Nothing broken… so far." She grumbles, lifting a hand to her glasses that sit crooked on her nose. Getting up she dusts herself off before looking me over. "You okay."
"Yeah." I say, getting up from the ground. "A little sore on the side but nothing I haven't dealt with." Stretching the pain shoots through my back, nearly making me fall. Staggering to the right a bit Olive's arm lands on my side to keep me upright.
"You sure?" Nodding she gives me a once over before letting me go. "Alright…" With that we turn back to where the little specks of the game where to be played. "Do you think he'll win?" Shaking my head, I limp forward.
"He's missing a piece. They can't play till that piece is found and I'm here… Linus can't do it. So, its at a stalemate. Unless their starting over then its just a piece he will have to deal without…" As I explain as she jumps forward a bit to catch up.
"But what if they aren't starting over completely? He would need that piece, right?"
"Yes, but I don't know how their going t-" Just then it dawned on me, knocking the kid down the blade I had used on earth plants itself into the ground beside her head.
"HOLY SHIT!" She shouts, getting to her feet quickly. Moving behind me, I keep my eyes on the dagger.
"Looks like he's trying to make a piece here…" I mumble, "But Linus would have seen the piece in you?" With that said, we make our way over to the table dodging the dagger with a few near misses. "You, okay?"
"Yeah, no I'm fine! Just being hunted down by a hunted DAGGER!! How about you?"
"Sarcasm isn't becoming of you!" I laugh out as we draw closer to the table. Deianira turns his head towards us, brow furrowed as we stop a few feet away.
"CAN YOU STOP THROWING THAT THING AT ME PLEASE! IT'S GETTING REAL ANNOYING!" She shouts, as I pull her by the arm. The Dagger flying passed her head and stopping inches from his now pointed fingers.
Chuckling he leans back in the chair, arms folding in front of his chest an all to familiar look on his face for me as he holds the blade against his arm. Growling lowly that seems to surprise him.
'How… My most trusted? What have you done?'
"Can't really explain to you really. Got to experience it yourself." I smugly say as his eye twitches. Letting out a slow breath he turns to the girl's father.
'This just complicates things…' Tapping the knife to the table in thought one of his pieces start to move. 'We will just play without Queens then…' With that said his queen disintegrates leaving nothing in it place.
"So, your actually playing fair this time?"
'Are you?' He remarks the smile returning to his lips before his eyes trailed back to the board.
Hours seemed to tick by as they continued to trade pieces, one by one opening the chessboard even more until the game seem to just stop. A stalemate… Just like the last time.
