Chapter 40 - Olive

Blinking slowly a dull thud against the back of my skull is the first thing to hit my senses. Sitting up, for a long minute I think I haven't opened my eyes. The Darkness around me is more of a surprise then anything as I lift my hand to my face and realize that 1. Yes, I have my eyes open, and 2. This is not a dream.

"OLIVE!" Looking towards where the voice was, shock crosses my face as a thin creature darts towards me its tail swaying quickly behind it as it comes to a stop in front of me. "Oh, thank the Gods, I found you before he did. Come on! UP UP!" Ushering me with sharp claws, I stagger to my feet.

"O-Olen?"

He nods to my question as his tail takes my wrist, pulling me along as the soft thud of thunder draws from above us.

"Where are we? What is going on?" Drawing next to him as we walk, my hopes aren't too high as he leads me through the darkness.

"This is The Void this place is home to most demons. I may or may not have gotten you grabbed by my boss and its kind of just one big mess… I'm going to try and get you out of here before he notices you if he hasn't already."

Pulling back, he stops, turning his head towards me cocked to the side slightly.

"Kid what is it?"

"My parents are here aren't they?" Letting out an agitated groan he keeps a firm grip on my wrist.

"Right now, isn't your best time kid. I can't let you go spelunking in the void more than your uncle will have my head. Besides what is happening is your parent's fault not yours."

"But could I help them?" Shaking his head, he pulls me along the soft roll of thunder dying down the further we get from it. "How do you know where your going?" Stopping for a second, he shrugs his sharp shoulders.

"To be honest kid, it was hard enough finding you. I'm just hoping to get out of here as fast as possible. By going back where I woke up…" He admits, pulling me close as the sound of dragging came from up ahead. "This ain't for you lot! Now buzz off!" He barks out, the tail dropping from my wrist as two creatures like himself step out.

'So? You didn't bring us anything from your trip?' One says a long scar across its face as the other a larger follow. 'Bad play dear brother bad play…'

"The mission didn't involve bringing back souvenirs for idiots, I got what I needed and came back."

'Is that right brother?' The larger of the two questions drawing nearer. 'What about that little human of yours? The one that has been helping. What is their name?' Olen's back hicks up a bit as a low growl escapes his throat. 'Linus something… right?'

"Don't even think about it!" Digging his claws into the shadowy 'soil'?? It surprises me a bit as he pushes me back with his tail. Taking those steps back the larger of the two leaps forward mouth a gap. Pivoting into his side, he yells. "Run!"

"Where?" I question back dumbfounded as the other creature starts to circle me. "This is not what I expected when this all started… Could this really be my end?" The other creature charges towards me, leaping at the finally second to pin me to the ground. Only for a loud shot to ring out and a familiar voice to hit my dully ringing ears.

"Step off my Girl asshole!" Looking up Marie lays her hand on my shoulder. "You, okay?"

"How the hell?" She smirks tapping the butt of the gun against her side, attached by a leather band is one of my many books.

"You really think I wouldn't pick up on what the hell you where doing? Olive your as open as a book in my eyes."

Looking back over to the creature, it twitches a bit before slowly becoming a plum of smoke and ash. Olen on the other hand is still fighting tooth to claw with the other. Curses in many languages falling from either of them as we watch.

"How the hell am I supposed to get a clear shot with those two rolling around like that?" Marie questions, holding the gun up she keeps her eyes on them in hope of an opening.

"Does your dad or anyone for that matter know you're here?"

"Probably not, I'm sitting in front of your bed with your door locked…" She admits with a shrug, hitting her arm she snaps her head to look at me. "What?"

"Have you lost your mind?"

"Probably? With how things are going I'm surprised by this point no one else has!" Marie takes a pod-shot making me cover my ears as the bullet hits the thing in the shoulder. Causing it to windmill back a bit, giving Olen the opportunity to dig his maw into its neck. Smoke and bits of ash fall to the ground as he pulls back. Breathing heavy he limps over to us.

"Let's get out of here… the game is about to begin again." He breathes out wrapping the tip of his tail around my wrist once more as I take Marie by the hand.

"Then let's get out of here quick."
