Dragging myself up through the broken glass, only one thing in mind.
'We need to end this game now!' Falling onto the polished floor, I pull myself up onto my feet. Stretching a bit, I pull the blade from the inner pocket of my jacket.
Deep down, I lost track of how many pieces where left. There really shouldn't be that many now. Could it?
Listening to the shuffle of shoes against the marble I slide over to the door my eyes immediately landing on the chess pieces on his desk. The squeeze to my heart is something I'm not use to as I almost reach a handout to grab them. Stopping when the door moves in front of me.
"Whoever is in here you might as well walk out. I have worked in this morgue for a good portion of my life, and I know how to hide a body!" The man yells, making a smile dance across my face.
'Hadn't had one like this in a while…' My mind no longer on the pieces I go to push the door into the man. Stopping when another voice joins the room.
"Dad? What the hell are you doing?"
Peeking through what little space the door gave I recognize the girl immediately. The one Linus spoke to before finding another piece. Watching them, I slowly back up into the desk snatching up the pieces before moving to pull myself up and out the window.
"HEY STOP RIGHT THERE!" Another voice surprises me as I turn to see the Officer that crippled my partner, a flush of anger hits my body as I stand from the ground. Blade still taught in my grasp as she draws closer flashlight and gun drawn. "Keep your hands up." Backing up slowly she tightens her own hold, keeping the pistol pointed at me.
"I don't have time for this…" I grumble, eyes jittering around for any type of escape. "Fuck it…" I curse, turning around and rushing through the parking lot, a few loud pops going off behind me as I jump around the bed of my truck. Getting into the passenger seat as she rounds the corner. Covering myself with my jacket she flashes the light over my head before moving on towards the other vehicles.
Squatting there for a few long minutes the roar of wind whips the world around like a top as I watch through my driver side window.
"I got to find that damn book…" letting out a tired sigh, I sit up a bit. Scanning the parking lot before moving to search the interior of the pickup. Small splotches of blood still decorate the back of the passenger seat as my hand glides over every surface. "One I find that book we can end this game for good and go home… Fucking hell…" laying my head in my hand's exhaustion hits me like a brick.
Leaning back into the leather, my eyes fall upon the cascading rain. Before lifting my hand to my face, the soft swirls of smoke drip from my fingertips.
"No time at all…"
"What are you?"
