Chereads / The Checkmate Murder / Chapter 31 - Olen

Chapter 31 - Olen

Where to start… There so much to go through and so little time. With the storm growing calmer by the second, I fret what the eye will bring. So, let's just start this off as the usual beginning non-sense.

'I'm a Demon, enough said for myself, I've been between earth and the void for a few centuries. Until now when a broad-shouldered idiot with a woman strode into our home. Barking on about something at the time I didn't listen.

Really should have though.

All hell broke loose when a loud bang came from a particular demon's room, pieces of olden wood scattering the floor and pieces falling into the voids very depths.

Something about backing out and the next thing I know is that I'm being flung onto earth in search for chess pieces. Confused as hell, I'm giving the book with instruction I can't even read and a knife that turns dead humans' cells into new pieces. But there is a catch.

They have to represent the piece, to many of one piece can get either of us killed.'

"And where do you come in?" The Chief interrupts motioning towards Linus.

"I'm getting to that." I snap a bit feeling a hand on my lower back.

'Linus here is what most voids call a seer, can basically read and write whatever his beautiful eyes land on. He read then stole the manuscript from me my first week back up on the surface.' Linus shrugs reaching around to take the book from my lap. 'After about a year of tracking each other down he finally came to me. Told me what he found out, then begun helping me. Pointing out those who hold the pieces either they be innocent of guilty at the time neither of us cared. The game has been ending for years now, its just now being forced.'

"By whom?" Olive questions leaning against The Chief who hasn't taken his eyes off us the entirety.

"And why now? After everything are you helping us? What do you get out of this?"

Clearing my throat, Linus' left hand finds my back as the other fingers the pages open. Eyes scanning over each scribble.

"I get to stay; I'll gladly take the punishment for murdering all those people. I just want to stay…"

"With every passing day Deianira draws him back to the void wanting their pieces to complete the game. All that is left are the two queens, and two kings… people of power, either corrupt or innocent their heart will tell." Linus finally speaks up; Olen shoots up a wide smile on his face.

"Then this shall be easy! Then their game can resume, and everything should return to normal!" Swinging both hands out a wide toothy smile on my face.

"I can't let you…"

Stopping dead, I quirk a brow toward the Chief who now has his gun trained on me. I should have known a little bit of explaining wouldn't change a stubborn man. That is before Olive pushed his gun up, yelling as I grabbed Linus' by the front. Turning I push through the window. Shards of glass rain down around us as I hit the ground, barely keeping my balance as shouts come from above.

Interesting… All to interesting.
