Chapter 21 - Different Perceptions [2]

"Coffee?" Shisio held a cup high and offered it to me.

"No thank you…" I shrugged and he drank it all

(What should I do? How can I save them? Heck, where are they even now?)

"Eve, let's talk." Shisio interrupted my thoughts and brought me inside a tent.

-----

"What do you want to talk about?" I took off my mage disguise and placed it aside

"About your next mission." He opened the map and started navigating

"…"

"Here, it is the area of Berfiucht, led by the mayor, Gabriel Fabiano" Shisio pulled me towards the map.

"What do you want me to do about it?" I raised a brow

"Assassinate him." Shisio looked at me in the eye and eerily stared

(Assassinate? This mayor?!)

"I bet he has something to do with corruption and black mailing." I glared at Shisio, and he nodded.

"Precisely, you do know how people think Eve." Shisio takes out a piece of paper from his drawer.

"This paper contains all about the reward and other rules you should follow." He gave the paper to me, and I received it

"You have three days." Shisio smiled and ordered me to begin my mission.

I ran swiftly through the forest.

(Fuck this, I got no time to follow these missions. I have to find them!)

I frustratingly ran through the forest until I arrived at the city of Berfiucht.

(Perhaps, if I finish this mission, I have time to look for Frisk and Scarlet.)

I stole a piece of cloth on a barrel and covered my head and chest

-----

It was already night, and I still have no information to where, Gabriel Fabiano is located.

I decided to take a quick snack on a local pub.

There were a few fellow warriors and adventurers there. I decided to feed myself with a simple bread for 5 silver coins.

I sat outside the pub, the dark windy night wasn't enough to let me freeze to death.

"Is it good?"

I heard a familiar voice nearby, a deep voice, probably a man that's just been hit by puberty.

I looked towards my right and the was also a man in ragged clothing like me, eating bread and holding a can of beer.

"Yeah, the wind's good." I looked away awkwardly.

"How many days 'till you kill Gabriel Fabiano?" He took a sip of his beer and remained like that.

"---"

I looked at him cautiously, with a confused look on my face, and ready to lunge out my dagger.

"How did you know?" I tried to ask him this one question, enough to make me judge him.

"Surely, I would know….since I'm also Adam."

*drip*

*drip*

*drip*

There was a sudden chest pain, I can't breathe. I closed my eyes for a little while and when I opened them again, I was inside my mind, all the memories flashed like a movie scene.

"aargh." I couldn't handle this headache, it's like getting a very very bad headache, like my head's about to be blown.

All my memories about the man I just met, flashed through my eyes. The time when I met him when I was a little kid, and how he was shot to death.

-----

"Did you see everything?"

As I opened my eyes, the man was there with a worrying look, then I realized, I was laying on the ground, with the piece of bread still on my hand, not yet finished.

"Should I help you up?" the man took out his hand and I refused by sitting up on my own.

"No, thank you." I stood up and dusted off my clothes.

"Want me to help you?" The man tilted his head, his face was still covered by his mask.

"How come? You were shot to death remember?" I furrowed my brows and he nodded.

"Well, there are times where a skillful warrior is able to pull an ultimate magic trick." The man puts his hand on his waist.

Does he think I would buy that?

"Your answer?" The man asked as he puts on his hat.

I thought about it carefully, this guy was also on the top-wanted list of the G'iere officers. He even managed to escape from them years ago.

What bothers me is that; how he still hasn't change for the last few years, his boots, clothes, and his hair hasn't changed.

"My answer; yes I would like some help." I sighed.

"Very well, then we should head after him right away." The man walked towards the pavements and puts his hand on top of his hat.

"Wait, do you know where Gabriel Fabiano is?"

"Why would I confidently help you, if I did not know where he is?" The man walked off and I followed.

-----

We arrived at a disclosed area where a tall building on the center was built. Probably where Gabriel Fabiano lives.

"How can we get inside?" I asked the man, and he remained silent.

"Dunno, we should go after him all we've got." The man rushed towards the gate and knocked off some guards

"You aren't gonna kill them?" I asked him

"Sometimes it's better to just leave a man being traumatized about it alone." The man quickly ran towards the building and killed five more men, the way he moves with his weapon, and the way he kills them, I would say that he really is a skilled warrior.

"Aren't you gonna do anything?" The man looked over me and I quickly ran inside the building

Dozens of men ran after us and stopped us all around.

The man quickly pulled out a gun and shot four men at once, bang bang bang, blood squirted out of their body and it splashed all over the expensive carpet.

"I hate it when people just buys things over this piece of shit that gets dirty if I poured blood on it."

I slashed one of the men and threw the dead corpse over the other men, I pierced my dagger on their stomach and sliced it horizontally.

"Brutal." The man punched a guard and ripped the guard's mouth.

We fought all the guards there, just the two of us, and still, no one could land a clean hit on us.

"I'd say we make a pretty good team." The man dusted off his coat and looked at me.

"Keep that thought in your head, that won't happen again." We then headed to the staircase and looked for Gabriel Fabiano. We then slowly hid at the columns and the plants.

"Fucking coward." The man clicked his tongue.

"What?" I glared at him.

"Look." The man signaled me to look at the other side of the building, where a lot of men has guarded a door.

"Gabriel is a coward little shit. He can't even sleep properly without putting his guards on the front door. He's such a fucking scaredy cat." The man sighed.

"What should we do?"

"We go."

The man immediately ran towards the door and the guards saw him, they quickly advanced and attacked him. The other guards stood at the door and shooting him with all they've got.

The man professionally killed the guards attacking him with just his fists.

I joined the scene and targeted the guards with the guns. They took notice of me and shot bullets. They missed most of the shots.

I broke their neck and snapped their bones. The violet color on their skin signified the broken muscles and bones.

I glanced back at the man and he just finished killing the last guard.

We stood at the door and opened it wide.

Darkness welcomed us.

"He's here." The man stiffened.

We slowly took a step forward and an intense aura filled our bones, chilling our body, fear, taking over our emotions.

(He's powerful)

We walked a bit farther from the door with nothing to see but darkness in the room.

The door closed with a creaky noise and the jolting sound of slam.

"Come forth."

We followed the voice.

"Gabriel, where are you hiding? Do you intend to live in the darkness forever?" The man shouted

"I've killed lots of people, ordering them, making them as slaves, and in return, it is the satisfying taste of power." Gabriel responded within the darkness.

"Are you sure satisfied? You don't sound like it. Your raspy and old ugly voice is something we won't hesitate to rip off of your body." The man and I walked closer and closer into the dark room.

"The world is already corrupted. If you're here to kill me because of that, there's no reason to do so. Hundreds, millions of people have already committed such sin."

We walked closer and closer, Gabriel's voice was clear as water now. His rasp old voice made me hesitate for my actions.

"Even so, we've come here to kill you."

There was no response. We walked closer and closer by the end.

We found ourselves to stop as we already saw Gabriel's face; moonlight went in from the window, bouncing off his face.

"So you've come." Gabriel showed relief in his emotions

I don't know why but, he must've waited for this moment, the moment where he will finally be able to rest.

I looked towards his left; there was a table with an open book, and a glass of beer along with a whiskey bottle.

"It seems that we've disturbed you from your peaceful night." I slowly took out my dagger.

He sighed, again, out of relief and happiness.

"I…have something to discuss with you." He said that with a firm look.

Even though he said it so casually, it felt like it was more of an order.
