Chapter 8 - Okay, We Accidentally Assassinated the King

Having no time for things like strategy, Dominic immediately rushed in and jumped up in the air, slashing down at Lewis, who blocked it with the sceptre and pushed it, causing Dominic to tumble onto the floor. When that was done, he darted to the back of the room, and started swinging the sceptre in what seemed like a controlled frenzy, like he was conducting an orchestra.

And then three pure black orbs spawned in the air around him. He thrust a hand out, and one of the orbs flew towards Dominic. He darted to the right, throwing his axe at it.

And when the axe hit the orb, it immediately exploded and fired to the other end of the room where Ulrich and Lainey were, getting stuck in the wall just short of Ulrich's face. He ran over to them, repeatedly yelling out "SorrySorrySorrySorrySorry!" The entire time.

"Dude, what the hell?" Ulrich yelled.

"I didn't know what it would do!" Dominic screamed quickly, breathing in heavily. "Look, I'm gonna rush him, help me out."

Without waiting for a response, Dominic once again charged in to try to hit him, with Ulrich and Lainey following, and Lewis sent his other two bombs towards them.

Ulrich propelled his left gloved hand out, expecting the fire within to spring to life, and nothing happened. He tried again with his right hand, but once again, nothing happened. The bomb was flying towards him, and Lainey used her demon to blow up the bombs, blowing its left hand into small particles.

"What are you doing, dumbass?" Lainey shouted at him, agitated.

"I don't know!" Ulrich screamed. "It worked back in Florida, so I don't know what's happening!"

"Well, figure it out, dammit!" Lainey screamed.

Dominic got on his knees and skidded across the floors, before springing back onto his feet, charging straight at the king once again, only for him to stick his sceptre directly into his stomach, and he felt a tiny explosion go off, and he was blasted into the edge of the room.

Unfazed by any of these three, the king once again sent more bombs out, and Dominic managed to dodge them once again. Ulrich dodged and ran, while Lainey waited for the small demon particles to come back together. Dominic reached Lewis and waited for him to swing his sceptre. He swung it, and Dominic dodged to the left, trying to shove his axe into his face, only for him to once again try to use the same explosive sceptre trick. He heard the explosion.

And nothing happened.

Ulrich was in front of him, his right hand by his side, his glove smoking, the left shoulder on Lewis tweed jacket having a small piece of smoke. Apart from that, he was unharmed, but bewildered.

"So, you too have those abilities." He squeaked, before quickly regaining his composure. "So, I take it you're working with that traitor." He once again readied his sceptre, pointing its explosive tip straight at Ulrich. He thrust out his left hand, ready to counter him again, but the staff stopped just short of his face. Ulrich looked down, and the gleam of the crappy gems briefly flashed before him. He looked down and saw Dominic's axe clashing against the sceptre. Dominic flashed him a wicked smile, before Ulrich punched Lewis in the head, readying another shot with his right hand.

But during this one, the fire wasn't nearly as strong, and the freezing sensation was only felt in his fingers, as opposed to his entire arm. Lewis looked him dead the eye, swinging his sceptre and creating another bomb, and sending it directly towards Ulrich.

Ulrich thrust out his right hand, and his palms started sweating. He felt a flash of heat exit his arm, and a flash of pure flame went straight into the king's direction. The bomb was away from him and Dominic. Lewis once again got up, and it was clear he was seeing more red than America during the cold war. In a desperate attempt at a surprise attack, he lunged at them, hitting Ulrich point blank in the stomach with his sceptre, sending him flying across the room. Lainey caught him, and he wasn't moving. She checked his pulse, and he was still breathing, but a small stream of fire was still leaving his gloves, and as she felt Ulrich's chest, he was slowly getting colder.

Dominic looked at what Lewis, what he did, and started running towards him, slashing furiously, while Lewis sceptre was constantly clashing against him. As much as Lewis didn't want to admit it, this child had at least the basics of swordplay down.

Lainey noticed that the bomb he sent out was still in the corner of the room, and while Lewis sceptre was in the air, she gave him a kick to the back, causing him to lurch forward, closer to the bomb. Dominic punched him in the back of the head, and Lainey dealt the final blow with her demon. Lewis went flying into the bomb, and he went flying directly into the wall.

"Wait, did we do it?" Dominic asked, looking at Lewis, desperately trying to get up. The weight of his messed-up legs caused him to slouch back, defeated.

"Yes, it appears you did it. Just…do what you came to do. But before I die, just tell me who sent you?"

Who sent them? This was Dominic's idea from the start. Was there somebody else trying to assassinate the king of England, maybe with the same plan as him?

Oh well, sucks to be them. He raised his axe for what he thought would be the last time, but was suddenly pushed out of the way, followed by a pained scream.

Dominic got up, and saw Lainey clutching her torso, on the floor, with a bloody axe by her side. Dominic quickly looked away and focused on Lewis. He once again set his focus on Lewis, and raised his axe.

And then he heard shattering glass.
