"Have you heared that we have a new transfer student?"
"Did you see the new kid."
"He is so handsome. I'd like to get that."
"He is the black leather jacket type, he looked so hot. Do you think he is an Alpha?"
"Is he human or lycan?"
"I don't know, it would be nice to finally get a hot Alpha here for a change."
"Do you think he is good at football? He should audition for the team."
"I saw his ride to school this morning. O-M-G."
"You saw it too? I wished I had me one of those. He must have really rich parents."
"Oh, think he would throw any wild parties at his parent's mansion if he really is a rich homie?"
Clare heard the wild gists and giggles in the hallway as she quickly sneaked by. Of course, she was curious as to the person that the whole school were talking about but she didn't have any group of friends to fill her in.
So Clare walked past grateful for the distraction at least. Jeff and his gang would be trying to get the new kid into the football team and their group of friends.
If she was lucky, they would leave her alone for a whole week. Then the new kid would throw a party in the said mansion that weekend, she would not be invited to it of course, and he would make his decision and everything would go back to normal.
Which meant, back to being bullied. Clare mentally reminded herself that she had less than a year left and she could finally leave for college. She could then put all these far behind her.
She safely made it to her class and settled in before the bell rang.
She saw the new kid at her very first class.
He walked into the class after the teacher. The teacher made him introduce himself.
"Hey, my name is Hunter Pyrros." The guy was really as handsome as they said, way more than she had ever seen.
He had thick, black, wavy hair, full eyebrows and a chiseled chin. His eyes were piercing black and he had a full upper lip. He was about 6' tall and had a lean bulk like he worked out in his spare time.
With his complete black ensemble and straight face, He looked like he belonged in a mafia.
Clare thought those 'Mafia boss in school' plot were unrealistic but that seemed to be the case here.
The teacher waited for a few seconds in case he wanted to add anything but he didn't so she waved him in.
"Take a seat, Mr Pyrros."
Clare held her breath as Hunter smirked at the teacher and turned, walking right in her direction.
No way! He was coming to sit at the empty seat beside her. Was she finally getting a friend? He was looking at her!
Clare could almost dance in excitement.
She felt a shiver run through her as he, instead of sitting beside her like she thought, walked past her and to the last seat in at the back of the class.
The shiver wasn't even from her dissapointment. When he walked past her, he was like a rush of cold winter wind, raising goosebumps on her skin.
But she was disappointed too. What was she thinking assuming that what seemed to be like the new most popular guy in school would notice her or sit beside her. She had been so sure that he was looking right at her.
It was most likely her imagination, along with the chill she felt when he passed her.
He could probably smell the Omega in her from the school entrance and was probably an Alpha or maybe a Beta that considered her beneath him, like the others.
Clare shook the thought of the new kid out her mind and tried to concentrate on what Mr Cameron was teaching. But she couldn't, not when she could feel someone staring at her.
Clare wondered if it was her imagination or if the new kid could actually be staring at her. Whatever the answer was, she didn't dare look back to check.
She could not bear making a fool out of herself for the second time that morning.
So she ignored it. And when the bell rang, she escaped to her next class.
Clare felt exhausted by the time she trudged into the library during lunch break. For the first time in a long time, she needed to use the library for it's actually use, to read, instead of as an escape from her bullies.
There was no escaping. At least not from Hunter.
Hunter! The name suited him just fine. She was feeling pretty hunted right now.
He was in all of her classes that morning and Clare had a sneaky suspicion that he would be in every class she had.
He never talked to her. He didn't lock eyes with her after the first period fiasco but he would attend each class, sit at the back of the class and she would feel him staring at her for the rest of the class.
Hence the urgent need to study. She could not concentrate on what the teachers were saying when she could feel his eyes boring holes in her back.
So she needed to study to keep up her straight A's so she could convince her loving and supportive Alpha parents that she was better off in college than trying to find her place in the pack.
Clare brought out her textbooks and opened one to begin studying. She didn't make it far before her mind wandered.
Why had the new kid been staring at her? Who was he? And why was he so interested in her?
He couldn't possibly be attracted to her, could he? She wouldn't call herself gorgeous but she was pretty and comfortable in her skin. Why didn't he talk to her then?
Maybe he was an assassin sent to get rid of her. That would explain what a mafia was doing in her school.
But why would anybody want her dead. Maybe because she was next in line for the Alpha-ship. But anyone could easily get it done themselves.
Maybe the person just didn't want blood on their own hands. Maybe she could explain to Hunter that she didn't want the position so there was no need to kill her?
Her thoughts got cut off as she felt that feeling she was beginning to get familiar with, again.
No way that Hunter followed her to the library again, right?
Clare chanced a glance up and.... sure, there was Hunter Pyrros standing at the entrance of the library. Instantly, their eyes locked and held.
Clare wanted to look away from those piercing eyes but she could not, because, he was still staring at her — and walking straight at her again.
Oh, for the love of Selene!
