Hunter Pyrros sat idly twiddling with his phone while looking out of his car wound down window. He watched the doors of the school entrance knowing that Clare would be the first to burst out of there.
Unfortunately, he had to resort to cheap means to be able to talk to her. Every since he had spoken to her on Monday, two days ago, she had been avoiding speaking to him.
He had meant it when he said he didn't like seeing her in dark clothes. Black didn't suit her. Both Clare and the person she reminded him of.
He contrasted with them, two extreme ends of any spectrum. White and black, Joy and Grief, Light and Dark.
SHE would never had been caught dead in black before SHE disappeared from his grasp, always about the positives. SHE always viewed life in positives and was always so happy.
Clare had tainted that memory with her black and dreary clothes. She had shaken him up by looking so sad and lonely and now all he could think of was HER.... looking and feeling like that.
So he had overreacted and told her point blank to change herself because of himself. He did not regret what he said, he still believed that she shouldn't look like that, but he would apologize for how he said it.
He could not afford to have her giving him the cold shoulder, not after they had barely started talking to each other.
HER last words to him had been to take care of her for HER.
The door was thrown open as though in a hurry and sure enough there was Clare sprinting out.
She wasn't alone though, but it wasn't as if Hunter could count a bunch of guys hot on her tail, pleasant company.
He could not just sit there and watch them bully his "ward". He was not a saint, he was very far from it but at least he was a gentleman.
And he definitely didn't see eight guys chasing one girl as a fair fight in any circumstance. The battle had to be evened.
Hunter got down from his car right in front of the terrified Clare, he grabbed her by the wrists before she could dash past.
Clare's eyes widened with a hint of fear probably thinking that he had caught her for the sake of those swines that had been sucking up to him ever since he arrived at the school.
He had been indifferent to everyone that tried to butter him up and had turned both male and female down everytime but they didn't seem to be able to take a hint.
"Stupid mutt." The one that seemed to be the leader of this bunch of cowards swore before smiling at Hunter like he had done him a favor. "That Bitch is fast for an Omega."
Hunter didn't like throwing the first punch first. Actually scratch that, he had always minded his business all his life and didn't like interfering in others issues, but he didn't stand for any form of shaming either. So it was a matter of principle against moral.
In this case, moral won.
The other brunette guy crashed to the ground when Hunter's fist connected with his jaw with a grunt.
It took the other guys a second to come at him all at once.
Hunter pushed Clare behind him for her safety before facing them.
He caught the flying fist of the first guy that came at him and twisted it, kicking him aside. The second guy had a similar fate.
The next two came together with wild kicks. He dodged the attacks easily and grabbed both by the necks before banging their heads on each other.
Seeing the others on the floor, the other guys ran away scared while the first one still came at Hunter throwing punches all over the place. Hunter caught both of his hands in his bent them in front of him and then backwards. The beta ranked guy cried out in pain begging to be set free.
Hunter shoved the other away to join the rest of his clique on the ground.
"I'll tell you guys once and just this once. The next time you touch even a hair on her head, you would have me to contend with."
That said, Hunter turned worriedly to the visibly shaken Clare. "Are you okay?"
Clare nodded still shocked to silence, partly from the fact that Hunter had stood up for her and partly because of how he had single handedly beat up five guys and scared off the other four.
"Get in the car."
Clare jumped at the sudden order. She was beginning to accredit her first impression that Hunter was a teenaged mafia.
Hunter's eyes suddenly softened seeing her expression. Her hazel brown eyes widened in fear, those were the eyes he was never able to say no to from the beginning.
"I'm sorry." He apologized "Please get in the car. I'll just give you a lift home."
Clare nodded and he got the door for her, waited till she was seated inside before closing the door shut.
He went around the car and also got in. He started the vehicle and hurried out of the school before one of the teachers or worse the principal came by and they both get into trouble.
They rode in silence that was broken only when Clare gave him directions to the pack house. Thankfully, the pack lived on a fenced property do they wouldn't run into any wolves while he was there.
They both sat awkwardly in the vehicle for a minute after Hunter cut the engine.
"I'm sorry for saying those things."
"Thanks for saving me back there."
They both said it simultaneously and paused to look at each other.
"Please let me go first." Hunter said and got a nod in reply. "I really am sorry for yelling at you on Monday. I was insensitive and I apologize."
Clare gave him a small smile. "Apology accepted. Also thanks for saving from those guys and for what you said."
Clare shyly glanced at her fiddling fingers.
She still could not believe that someone fought for her. it was extremely rare for someone to have her back and it was a really pleasant feeling.
She would probably wake up any minute now and realize that she had been beaten to a pulp somewhere in school and was currently passed out.
"Bullies never turn back from a scared prey. If you want to learn basic self defense, I could you teach you in your free time. Just call me up."
Hunter put his phone in her hand so she could type in her number. He then called her phone so she could have his. Clare saved the number though unsure if she would ever use it.
She just was not strong enough so trying to learn self-defense that would be a big waste of both their times
"So, Uhm... bye. See you in school tomorrow. Oh and thanks for the lift."
Clare said and alighted.
She waited until Hunter Pyrros drove away with her waving the whole time before going in within the gates.
Hopefully, with the warning that Hunter gave her bullies, she would be left alone for a while.
That would be really nice.
