As I slowly opened my eyes and turned around their was a giant green hand lying on the floor nearly 2' from where I was, along with the smell of shit, iron, and rotten eggs. One of the monsters was lying on the floor dead with so many arrows in his head and back; you'd think he was a porcupine.
Then it hit me, the noise stopped. It was deathly quiet, I looked around and their were 12 more monsters lying on the floor all dead spread throughout the field near the wall all in the same way; arrows through their chest, back, and head. Off in the distance I could see a group of 20-30 more of those monsters still alive, staring at the wall filled with anger. One began pushing his way through the rest, towards the front of the pack; he was at least 18' tall, and nearly a head taller than the rest. He stopped in front of the rest of the monsters knelt down and roared so loud my ears began ringing in pain and the wall began shaking.
Suddenly, I felt something grab my shoulder behind me and as I tried to spin around to fight off whatever it was, my fist was caught. I looked at what had grabbed my arm only to find myself relieved when it was the first person I met in this new world, it was Ulrick.
He swung me over his shoulder like a bag of potatoes and brought me through the castle walls. It was there that I saw countless people sobbing from the misery that had just come and passed. Somehow I could feel, that it wasn't over though, after all those monsters were still outside, who knew when they might attack.
Ulrick continued to carry me through the dirt roads to a place I could only call a church; where nuns were gathered around countless men laying in single person beds, as well as the floor. Some had missing body limbs others were bleeding so fast and so much it was like a running faucet. Ulrick placed me on the floor near a couple of men, and got up to leave.
I tried to stop him, but my voice didn't want to work and my vision began to blur more and more. By the time I could finally get my voice to work he was gone, and the only noise I could make was the sound of me crying. It had been the hardest day of my life and I still hadn't wrapped my head around the idea that I had seemingly died, been reborn, and almost died again.
I tried to piece the events of that day together in my mind, but with the excruciating pain, and my nerves as well as emotions all over the place I figured it was best to save it for another day. The nurses were moving around placing wet cloths on the heads of many men as well as washing the blood from those that were still alive. Many of the men with missing limbs had either died or passed out from shock after having their wounds cauterized with flames to stop the bleeding. The men with less serious injuries were either laying or sitting on the floor, waiting for their turn to be treated. While most men were ghastly pail due to blood loss, they were all crying, sleeping, or staring blankly at the side with shock on their face.
Aside from the men their to get help with wounds, their was a group of men wearing all black going back and forth through the building to grab the dead bodies, and bringing them through the back to some unknown place.
A man next to me was cursing under his breath about how he hated some thing called Orcs, and how they should all die a slow painful death. I looked at him to ask, "I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but what are Orcs?" He looked at me with eyes full of anger and responded "Fuck you" that was all he said before he got up and walked away. He was a tall man roughly 6'2 with a round belly, black hair, and he was bleeding from his arm. He walked to the opposite side of the room and sat down before closing his eyes.
'God I need to figure out more about this world so stuff like that doesn't continue to happen, that's the second "stupid question" I've asked today. If I don't learn more about this place no one is going to talk to me.' With the amount of people in the room I knew it would take a while before I got helped so I figured I should listen to my body and get some rest.
