The next day Alice woke up extra early and rushed into my room. She had the first aid kit in one hand and the thaumometer in the other. I quickly sat up in bed once I heard her throw my door open.
"Mom! What are you doing?" she put up a finger and waved it at me as she tiptoed over to my bed. She sat down next to me and gave me a big smile. This is the creepiest thing i've seen her do.
"Shh~ you'll wake the twins up. I'm just coming to check on you. I'll take your temperature and see if you're hurt anywhere. I'm going to fix you up and then when I take your sister and brother to school, you'll stay here with your dad. I have to work so it will just be the two of you today." before I could protest she shoved the thaumometer into my mouth and started humming some old timely song. She was acting crazy over protective. I know that I almost died and all, but she could at least give me some space. She's being a complete helicopter parent. The thaumometer beeped and she quickly yanked it out of my mouth. She sat quietly for a moment before she decided that it was fine and then started to dig around in the first aid kit.
"Mom? Why are you in my room...doing whatever this is." she stopped what she was doing and turned to face me. She looked me in the eyes and gave an annoyed look, like I should know the answer.
"Are you kidding me? That boy that you were with yesterday. I called the school and asked who he was, because you weren't answering me. That's the boy who hurt you before. You told me his name that day in the hospital and they told me the same name. You're just going to let him keep hurting you?" she was whispering, but I know that she wanted to yell.
"He isn't hurting me anymore. He said that he wanted to start over, and i'm giving him a chance. He'll be here later to pick me up for school. He will also be dropping me off back home...everyday. I might-as-well get dressed since you've awaken me before my alarm...for nothing." I signaled her with me eyes to move. She sighed and stood from my bed. I puled my covers off of me and whipped my legs around, off of the bed. Alice just stood there staring t me like she was expecting me to collapse once I stood up.
"Do you mind, mom? I have to get dressed, so can you leave me alone. she made an annoyed face at me, crossed her arms and stormed out of my room. And of course she left everything she brang in with her. I groaned in annoyance and began to get ready. I picked out an outfit from my closet full of all black outfits. I guess I never mentioned that i'm a bit of a goth. I tried to wear more colorful clothing but they never went well with my dark hair and resting bitch face. I only tried them because Chloe wanted me to. I honestly hated them. They made my eyes burn. Anyway I was dressed and ready for school, but it was still a bit early for Jayden to come get me. If I remember correctly he does morning workouts and then takes a run through that park that we met in yesterday. I grabbed my bag and made my way into the hallway. This time there was no reason to sneak, because the beast was already awake and aware of my intentions to leave. I descended the stairs quietly enough not to wake the twins and walked over to the door where my shoes were.
"Where do you think you're going this early? This isn't the time that you usually leave." I sighed and turned around to face the beast herself. Who knows...maybe she doesn't spit fire.
"I was going to meet Jayden at the park so he can give me a ride to school. That's where we meet up. I have to go earlier now. I'm not going to be walking with Chloe anymore anyway." she didn't look too pleased to hear that. She took a deep breath and then started to scan me. She slowly walked up to me and then began to circle me. She pulled on the collar of my shirt and peeked at my neck then sniffed my hair.
"Is he your boyfriend? Are you two having sex?" her questions caught me off guard, but I kept my composure and answered her as swiftly as I could.
"No! Why the heck would you ask that?" she narrowed her eyes on me and then walked away.
"You may go. Either way I don't trust that boy and i'll prove to you that he's bad for you." I rolled my eyes as I watched her disappear up the stairs. I couldn't help but sigh as I began to put on my shoes. Sbe took up so much of my time. Now I have to rush. I grabbed my bag and basically flew out of the door. I walked as fast as I possibly could to the park. When I got there, Jayden was nowhere in sight. I squinted into the direction he pulled to get to his car the other morning and saw his black Mercedes parked across from the picnic tables. I made my way to the tables and sat down. I looked off into the distance and started to reminisce about the days where my real mom would take me to the park when I was younger. She used to ride down the slide with me and push me on the swing set. We'd eat ice cream and have tickle fights. I can't get over the fact that i'll never get to do things like that or anything else with her again. I could feel my eyes well up with tears.
"Hey! I thought I told you that i'd pick you up from your place later on." I turned around to see Jayden walking up to me. Just great. He came at the perfect time to watch the scrawny goth kid cry about his dark past. I quickly turned away and wiped my tears away. It didn't really matter anyway. He saw, I know he did.
"My mom was giving me a rough time this morning. Haha~ she asked me if you were my boyfriend and wanted to know if we were sneaking of early in the morning to have sex before school. I think she's lost her mind." I grabbed my bag and stood to leave. I didn't realize how close he was and bumped into him.
"Whoa man. Watch out." he said it jokingly, but even so I was scared.
"I-im so sorry. I didn't mean it, I swear!" He threw his hands up in the air and stepped back.
"Calm down. I'm not going to hurt you. It was an accident, so just forget about it. Let's just go." I nodded my head in agreement and just went along with him without asking questions. We walked to his car and got in without another word. In the corner of my eye I could see that he was going to say something but decided against it.
"I'm sorry that I freaked out on you like that. I'm working on that, I promise. I'll try to keep myself calm." he sighed and then turned my way.
"I'm not going to ask you to force yourself to be happy with me around. I have to change your mind about how you see me. This isn't about me, it's about us. You have the right to feel the way that you do and with great reason. After what I did to you, i'm surprised that you're even getting this close let alone talking to me." I didn't know what to say so I didn't say a word. I just sat back in my seat and looked forward. Jayden started up the car and we sped off down the street. We went back towards my house, but sped right past it. Where the hell are we going?
