Jayden looked down at me for the first time in a while. His expression was blank but his eyes told it all. The fear in his eyes shook me. I was already terrified but seeing him like this scared me. He was paralyzed in fear. He leaned down close to me and then looked around the room. No one else was around, but he still seemed afraid to do anything.
"I'm going to check on Chloe later, but right now I have to get you out of here. It's not safe." I wanted to refuse him. I wanted to stay and get answers, to see Chloe, to wait for my family but I couldn't. I was terrified of what i'd hear, of what i'd see and of what I might do if I saw Alice. She killed my mother and kidnapped me, she played mind games on me for years and now she just tried to murder my best friend in order to get me back. She's demented.
"Please take me home. I need to talk to my family." he nodded in agreement and then hesitantly let go of my hand. For a moment he looked in my eyes with such intensity and fear before turning around and rushing into the hall. I hadn't been paying attention before, but the hospital was in a panic. My room was a crime scene, and people were freaking out. I watched as doctors scrambled through the halls and rushed into the room, trying their best to calm the patient's who were unfortunate to have seen Chloe being carried away. I could hear screaming and the rush of many feet on the ground. If we didn't leave soon, the police were going to come and take me away. Jayden rushed back into the room with a wheelchair. He pushed it up to the bed and then began to search the room.
"Do you know where they put your clothes? You need to get dressed." I looked down at myself. I hadn't realized that I was wearing a hospital gown. I looked around and noticed that this room had a bathroom in it. I pointed towards it.
"Cheak in there." he looked to where I was pointing and then quickly ran around the bed and into the bathroom. After a brief moment he came out with my clothes in hand. He rushed over to me and practically pulled me out of the bed. My body was weak and I could barely stand. I guess that's why he got the wheelchair. He pulled me into him and began to help me dress. Honestly if we weren't running for our lives I would make a move...if I could move. After I was dressed he sat me in the wheelchair and wheeled me into the hall. We took a moment to look around before we continued. The halls were mostly empty. There were a few nurse's running back-N-forth from room to room.
"If we stay quiet and hurry, we can get outside to the car without being stopped." I nodded my head and then I put all of my focus in front of me. I'm going to trust Jayden to get me out of here. He quickly pushed me down the hall while making sure to stay as quiet as possible. There was no one at the front desk and everything seemed strangely quiet, and then out of nowhere someone screamed at the top of their lungs. The longer it went on, it became less of a scream and more of a wailing. I couldn't tell where the voice was coming from. I covered my ears and closed my eyes. When I opened them I was in that dark place again. I looked around and tried my best to stay calm. There was nothing, just a big clear opening.
"Look at you. Clinging to that boy like he's going to save your life." right in front of me a boy leaned against a wall. When he looked up at me I noticed that he was actually me. "You're holding onto him for what? He doesn't love you...I do. No one can love like yourself. You and I could get out of here together. He's a plaything! We don't need a boy." it was like looking into an evil mirror. It was me, but it looked different. His eyes were pitch black and his smile reached his ears. He was standing over me, looking down on me.
"WHat do you want from me. I can't do whatever you're implying. I'm not clinging to him, he's just helping me. Our mom just tried to kill our best friend. And I know he doesn't love me, but who cares? He's my friend and he wants to be here, i'm not 'holding' him." he chuckled and shook his head.
"Don't lie to yourself. I know what you really feel and think. You know that you're keeping everyone down. I know that you love him, but you won't ever get him to feel the same. I know it, you know it and Alice knew it too. She protected you from the heartbreak. Chloe was ignoring you. She didn't want to be your friend so mommy got rid of her for you. I love you and so does she. We have to go get her. Now! NOW!"
"No!"
"Alex! Who are you talking to? There's no one there!" I looked around only to see the inside of Jayden's car. He'd pulled over. Since when were we driving?
"How did I get in the car? Where are we?" It was night out. The street lights lit the way home as I noticed that I was only a couple blocks away from my house. "How long has it been since we were at the hospital?" Jayden looked confused.
"It's been like...I don't know six or seven minutes tops. Why?" my heart started to beat uncontrollably fast, that it felt like I might die. I don't remember any of it.
"Did I fall asleep on the way out of the hospital?" Jaydens expression changed from a confused look to a concerned one.
"No. You were awake on the way out and for the entire drive. We were talking just a moment ago, then you started yelling at your reflection, like you were talking to someone else. A full on conversation." he seemed anxious and I have to admit that he's not the only one. "Ok, let's just talk about it later. I'm going to take you home, put you to bed and then we can talk about this in the morning." I just nodded my head and sat back in the seat. Jayden quickly drove down the street to my house and parked out front. We both looked over at the house before he got out of the car and walked up to the door. I could see him knock on the door and after a moment Max opened the door. I obviously couldn't hear what they said, but Jayden pointed back at me and Max looked my way then nodded. Jayden came rushing back to the car and opened my door.
"What did he say?" he looked back at Max before leaning in close to me.
"I'm going to take you inside, but you have to promise me that you're going to stay in your bed, do you hear me. Your dad has blood on his shirt. I pretended not to notice and you have to do the same. If you can't do that, then we can just leave. I'll come back for the twins later." my eyes grew wide as he said these thing, but my heart stopped when he mentioned the twins. I shook my head in disagreement.
"I can't leave. The kids are here. What if he hurt them? I have to stay." Jayden nodded and then lifted me out of the car before kicking the door shut. It felt like the the air became extremely thick with each step toward the house. Max stood in the doorway waiting for us. Once we were face-to-face with Max he held his arms out. Jayden hesitantly lowered me into his grasp and then stepped back.
"I'll be back in the morning, promise. Then we can talk." I nodded my head and then looked up at Max. He looked down at me with a smile.
"I'm sorry that I didn't come get you. I couldn't leave the kids here alone. The police will be back tomorrow to speak to us. Can you handle that?" I quickly nodded my head 'yes' and was relieved when his smile didn't waver. I forced myself to hold in a sigh of relief. He slowly walked me to my room. It felt like forever as he slowly walked up the stairs and edged closer to my bedroom. Once we were in my room, he laid me down on my bed and pulled my covers over me.
"Are the twins awake? I want to see them." he gave a sad expression at the mention of the twins. He didn't speak, just shook his head before patting my shoulder and then leaving the room. For a moment I stared at the door, contemplating on whether I should get up or not. The answer was obviously no. I couldn't move my legs. I forced myself to turn away from the door and direct my attention to the ceiling. I was afraid of falling asleep, but too tired to stay awake. I could feel the tension in my body begin to bubble up but my eyes still closed and I drifted off into the darkness.
