Max---
After walking out of the car, I turn to Cain.
"Let's see what they have in the fighting section!"
"For what?" Cain says, walking besides me.
"Well if I'm going to be fighting, I need to mentally prepare myself, " I say, pretending to meditate.
Cain looks down at me, confused.
"Kid, what you need is experience, not mental..." Cain pauses "or just getting your mom to trust your abilities,"
Walking into the library, "Hey, I know my mom is a pain right now, but this isn't her usual. Plus as much as I respect you, my mom is more important. She's done a lot,"
I silently walk towards the farthest wall from the entrance, lost in thought.
"I don't know what happened to her before me but there isn't a day that she isn't thinking about me!"
"As a parent should," Cain remarks.
Rolling my eyes, "Cain, I wish you can get to know her, she's just stressed right now," leaning back on the wall, I start fidgeting with my fingers. Looking only down, too anxious to look up.
Cain stops in front of me, "Well kid, when you beg me like that…. Fine but at the end of the day you are you and she is she,"
"I know but I'm only like 8, I got a long way to go," I say teasing
"That's a problem for a normal human child," Cain bends down to my eye level.
"You are too smart, too strong, and mature faster than normal humans. I can see how much she is holding you back. Kid, you got potential.." He says with a calming voice.
"But I'm only half!" I tear away from his stare.
Is this what having a dad feels like? Always on your side… He'll probably dislike being called a dad.
Melting into the wall, numb to the reality of being not normal.
"Hey! That makes you even more special!" Cain grabs hold of my hands, "Dear, being half means you aren't limited. You don't see it yet, but you are stuck in the human ways limiting yourself. I'll find you some blood, you will then understand the need to have both,"
"Mom… won't like this," I say feeling miserable. But I'm not worried about mom but myself, what if it doesn't work and what he thought I was… That isn't true.
Mom will stay with me no matter what but what about Cain, who showed interest in me just to get bored of me.
"We can convince her, you did say she cares for you dearly, right? Well, this is for your safety, no?"
"Cain? What if you are wrong about everything?"
"That's a good question but it doesn't hurt to try. Plus my estate will be safe for you and your mom," Cain stands up. "Hmm..."
"What?" I say worryingly looking up at him.
"Since your mom is still busy, why don't we go train? You need to build more strength... Do you remember what is required of you daily?"
"Of course, 2x a day I need to run 5k, skip 20 mins, and Shadowbox" puffing out my chest.
Cain still is not taking his eyes off of me. "You think an average human can start that routine easily?"
"Well show us what a half can do, let's go! We didn't get to finish your run this morning," he says with a grin.
"Ugh... my legs are wiggly!"
Intently wiggling my legs.
"Ok... Seems half-vampires regenerate slower than the average vampire," Cain stares at me.
"Haven't you already met halfs?" tilting my head.
"Yes, but they are rare, I've never train any and I've only met one in my life,"
"Where is the half now,"
Maybe I'll be able to meet them…
"Dead,"
"What the hell are you saying to a child!" Mom pops up behind Cain.
"Well, here we go... " Cain says, slowly turning around to face mom.
"'HERE WE GO!?'" Mom obviously shorter steps up to him.
"Mom, we are in a library…." I whisper.
"Ya… Miss mom we are in the quiet zone, watch the volume, " Cain says with a smirk.
"Seriously, Cain, " too dumbfounded to even think straight.
"Well... Ima go run..." I say, slowly escaping the wild scene.
Kings people --
In a Walmart parking lot, standing next to their motorcycles.
Kevin, the newly appointed leader calls for a meeting. He now has to command 8 trackers to find a grown woman and a child but the child is the priority. And the king wants results as soon as possible. What he needs to do is come up with a better plan to capture the child.
"Our old leader was weak!" Pacing amongst the other goons.
Kevin hands out a small cloth that could possibly be from the child but they are sure it was the mother's apron right before they left.
"I, Kevin, will not lead us to failure! Heed my words, we won't fail,"
"YAAAAHHHHH!!!" the other goons shout.
"Quiet…" Kevin hissing his command, causing the goons to coward into silence.
"We will split up into 4 teams; team 1 will head north, team 2 west, team 3 south, and team 4 east. Each team should have two people. Once a team has found the child, contact the rest of us," Kevin pauses to look at everyone's face.
"Do not proceed without caution! We need the child to be captured unnoticed, and for the love of the king, REPORT BACK TO ME!"
"Sniff and Go!"
Everyone springs to action, jumping on their bikes, and heads in their assisted direction.
Max----
After running out, I start on my run. But the running is hard. I can only get up to 3 miles and at that point, I feel like dying.
"Kid! Put some energy in it, " Cain standing nearby.
"Are you kidding me!?" I belch out.
"Guys! It's time to go!" Mom yells walking towards the car.
"Thank god!"
Slowing down to catch my breath.
"Don't thank god, thank your mom,"
"Shut up!" I say exhausted.
