Kevin, the newly appointed goon's leader, texts everyone, to facetime him for a report.
The East group, who ended up in Maine, called first. "We haven't picked up on anything," Amir reported.
"Okay, make your way back to Kansas, and double-check everything!"
"Yes!" Amir shakes his head before hanging up.
'Amir is very diligent and quiet, he does his job and… What does he do in his free time? Anyway, a good worker… Unlike some people.'
Kevin stares down Kai who is paired up with him to search in the West region. 'Kai may be good at tracking but unless he has direct instructions to track. He just sleeps and eats.' Kevin is only tolerating him for his tracking skills but…
He shakes his head as he watches this grown man sleep on his motorcycle, too comfortably.
Two weeks passed since the team was all together and the first week, no one had anything to report. This was fine to Kevin but the North team hadn't reported to him that week and is expecting a good reason for their absence.
'We are trackers, this shouldn't be taking so long.'
Kevin's phone starts ringing, the screen shows 'South group'.
Answering the call, the screen shows Theo's face is way too close "Yo boss!"
'Sighing…' Theo isn't a bad person but Theo acts like the youngest of the team and just does whatever he wants while being loud about it. Kevin just gets exhausted when talking to him.
"What have you found," Kevin asks, ignoring Theo's continued zooming in and out.
He stops on the wide lens and pauses, Theo looks around as if to be asking for help, "Boss, we haven't found anything,"
Theo then gets closer to the phone "Are we sure they're still in North America?"
"Theo, head to Kansas if you are done, Amir's group will meet you there," Kevin hangs up without a need for a response. He looks up at Kai again, who is still sleeping, he feels he might've assigned himself to the wrong team.
Dialing the last group, Kevin ends up waiting for over a minute…
No one answers.
He then calls four more times and each time his anger rises. No one continues to answer.
This is their second week not reporting, giving him the idea they are dead. Rubbing his temple, he thinks about each possible scenario; 'Maybe they ran away? Or caught the girl and heading back but what if they underestimate the kid and get themselves killed….. They can't be that dumb.'
'Trackers are not fighters, all they need to do is track and report.'
'With 2 goons missing the team will be down to 6.' There's no way that Kevin would report them missing to the king. 'To the king!'
'To the King, we are replaceable.'
Kevin figured to not get anyone in trouble and just continue the search with no suspicion. No one will notice the decrease. But now that means he needs to head North to see what happened or what they found.
King ---
"Men, I need loyalty! It seems as my trackers aren't doing their job reporting back to me and by oath, you all are bound to me," The king lifts himself up from his throne to take a better look at his soldiers.
Glaring down at the soldiers, he smirks, "Report to me! And kill when needed. Don't be shy to also kill the trackers when they become useless,"
The King then sits back down on his throne, tired. "Now go," Melts on his throne… I need the heir, soon.
Kevin—-
"Hey! Kai, let's get out of here," Kevin jumps onto his motorcycle.
Kai looks around in a daze, blinking away his tiredness. "Where… to…now,"
"Kai… just follow. Don't worry about human food, it's everywhere. They literally have 'Walmart's everywhere," Kevin slides on his motorcycle helmet and takes off towards the highway.
Through their helmet's microphone, "The… North team… Most likely stopped in Minnesota,"
Kevin holding tight to the handles, roll his eyes, "And how do you know that"
"Food,"
'See… Weirdo, what is that even supposed to mean?'
"Fine, we'll head towards Minnesota but be on a lookout if you see anything that might be from them,"
Kai speeds up passing Kevin. He watches Kai speeding off and decides to use his skill that is comparable to a hawk's vision.
Staying on Hwy 20, exiting out of Harper, Oregon.
'Nothing but mountains for miles.'
After some hours, Kevin calls out to Kai, "Let's stop here! We need to rest,"
Kai ahead of Kevin takes a nearby exit into a motel near the highway.
'Okay then…'
Kevin follows behind Kai trying to figure out who is really in charge.
Reading the signs, "Boulder, Wyoming," Kevin's mouths.
"You smell that?"
"Really, Kai? You're hungry now? Didn't we just stop…"
"Team… Scent,"
Kevin looks around to see what or anything Kai is talking about. "Do you want us to follow it?"
"The smell faint,"
"Ok.. ay… meaning? We're too far away?" Kevin gets off his bike and look through a motel window, "For now we need to get in a room and follow whatever you smell when night falls,"
"Food,"
"Kai… We need sleep first," Unlocking the room with a lockpick, Kevin looks around before stepping inside, "Come on,"
Once night falls Kevin and Kai reemerge from the vacated room.
"Okaay, Kai show me the way,"
Kai takes off east from Boulder, Kevin weaving around traffic to catch up.
'Beep'
'Goodness, when did humans become sooo rude…' Kevin laughs to himself… 'Wait, they've always been annoying.'
Kai zoomed past pit stops and chain food shops, and Kevin knew they're close.
They then stopped in front of a semi-wooded area, next to a motel. Kevin can see deep in the woods there is a cave, not big but big enough for someone to hide. Before asking Kai anything, Kevin walks towards the cave. While Kai, stays over by their bikes, sleeping.
Kevin sneaks into the cave, hears and smells nothing but rotting. Slowly looking around with his night vision, he observes a mess of blood on the floor and the walls. Kevin stands looking farther in the cave and sees two bodies. He instantly knew they were the North team. The blood didn't smell like a human but a vampire.
Kevin bends down to inspect their wounds, "Was it the child?"
He touches the smaller goon's wound that decapitated him. 'This doesn't look like a normal vampire child's doing, but the child has the king's blood…'
Still unsure who or what killed them, walks over to Kai. "We need to inform the others,"
Kai nods before going back to sleep.
'Why do I even try?'
