Freyja didn't see why it would hurt to try. She saw her mother and Aris countless times perform magic, and she knew thousands of spells from her mother's grimoire, too. Next, she closed her eyes and focused on her breathing. Simultaneously, she murmured a few words, and the scented candle in the room light up.
"Oh f**k," Blade exclaimed
She opened her eyes to see why and saw the candle burning. Her blood froze in her veins at that. All she wanted was to prove she wasn't unique. This was madness, she thought.
"How is that possible?" her voice shaking from the shock
"I told you, haven't I?" Ace said, gleaming with confidence
"Yeah, yeah, you're a genius," Aris mocked him, mad that he wasn't the one to discover it.
"I still don't trust it. Why would we find this out just now? Aris, you're sure you're not messing with us?" Blade questioned him.
"Why would I? Plus, how was I supposed to know what she wanted to do? She didn't say it," Aris replied, his voice laced with indignation at Blade's suspicion.
"Frey, if anyone knows about this, that is Josephine. She raised you since you were very young. I'm sure she must know something," Axel said in a calm voice, but his head was spinning from all the thoughts going through it.
Heeding Axel's words, she was set on confronting her mother and investigate this matter. How could she hide this from her? Did she expect her to never find out?
She grabbed one small card from her study and burned it. Then, in the blink of an eye, Josephine stood in front of them.
"What's the matter, sweetheart? You never summon me out of the blue like this," she asked, confused why her daughter would summon her instead of going to her.
Not knowing how to phrase it, she just blurted the most pressing question.
"Am I the descendant of Persephone" her voice was shaking
Josephine was thunderstruck. The question she hoped she would never hear took her by surprise. She thought of a way to explain the situation, but seeing Freyja losing her composure for the first time made it even more difficult.
"Yes," she muttered in a voice barely audible.
"How can it be? Why would you keep this from me?" Freyja asked, tears escaping her eyes.
"Very few people know that both of your parents were pureblood alphas from Persephone's lineage," Josephine explained.
"Frigg was a dear friend of mine, and the day the Goddess matched her with your father, she came to see me," she continued, her voice getting shaky.
"She asked me to do a reading on their life, aware of your father's lineage. The moment I have started the reading, I foretold your birth and that you will carry the spirit of Persephone herself" her eyes started welling up with tears.
"Scared of my premonition, my coven has forbidden anyone to do a reading that could encourage Persephone's arrival back on the worldly planes. The high priest has sentenced me to death for that, commanding that your mother's child be killed as well. Yet, your mother helped me escape." tears now flowing freely from her eyes.
"On that dreadful night, I wasn't there by mistake. I had a vision moments before it happened and rushed to that place, hoping I can prevent it. But when I arrived, it was already too late for your parents." she stopped recalling that night, unable to speak from the tears.
"It still doesn't explain why you hid it until now," Freyja shouted in anger and sorrow.
"Oh, dear child, I hid it from you because the truth will place you in grave danger," Josephine replied through her sobs.
"Knowing the truth would've only helped me prepare," Freyja shouted again, her whole body trembling in anger now.
"Frey, consider her story for a second. You did almost the same thing, hiding who your parents are from us. But, if you think about it, she just wanted to protect you," Axel spoke in a calm tone.
"It's not the same. I kept it from you because I knew how you'd react. She didn't. She had no clue how I would feel or what I will do if I learn the truth," Freyja cried, feeling betrayed and full of despair.
"And what do you intend to do now that you know?" Blade raised his eyebrow at her
"Kill them all" Freyja's voice was demonic.
Her body was emanating a similar black smoke to Ace's, and the lights started flickering rapidly. Around the realms, natural disasters happened one by one. Powerful earthquakes shook the Midnight Realm, forests suddenly lighting up like Christmas trees in The Cloud Reach, tsunamis hitting The Azure realm, and volcanos erupting all at once in The Hollow Dominion. Her anger didn't skip The Mortal Sanctuary that was the most unfortunate, having all-natural disasters happening simultaneously. All supernatural beings could feel her rage, and it worked like a beacon telling them Persephone's descendant had been born.
Despite the villa being shaken by earthquakes happening all over the realm, they tried to stay calm and bring her back from her slumber.
"Oh goodie, after throwing a fit, you act exactly how anyone would expect you to if you ever learned the truth," Aris said, mocking.
Hearing his mockery only fueled her rage, and now she had him pinned against the wall, claws forming instead of her hands.
"Good job, genius. The point was to calm Freyja down, not make her angrier." Axel snapped at him.
"In my defence, I thought she will calm down. Help!!" Aris shouted, looking at the rest of the group.
Josephine tried to cast a statue spell on her, but her effort was in vain. Freyja wasn't affected by magic.
"Any thoughts, master?" Axel asked, looking at Ace. But Ace was in his meditation trance, and he didn't reply.
"Great, now there are two lost in their heads," Blade said, annoyed.
Blade and Axel tried to immobilize her so she wouldn't hurt Aris, but they felt powerless against her. At the same time, the three of them changed into their wolf form, now trying to fight like wolves. Despite that being a lost battle from the start, given she didn't realize who she was fighting while they were too afraid to hurt her, they had to at least try to stop her.
Meanwhile, Ace went into his meditative state so he could tap into the Infernal Damnation plane. Although he wasn't sure if he would be correct, part of his soul would be here when a demon lost control or would trap souls into the purgatories they made. They could also communicate with each other, given that they would almost always astral project into this dimension. Even though the plane was in chaos when he got there, he hoped to find her. It was like someone has left all the souls out to walk around, and there was no order anymore. Collapsed buildings and open prisons from where the souls have emerged. The lost souls were creating havoc in the plane, unaware of what's happening and trying to go back on the worldly plane.
Uncertain of what to do, he started shouting her name.
"Frey…"
Only silence has followed.
"Freyja!!!"
Silence again.
"Great, there goes my plan," he muttered to himself, slapping his forehead for failing.
Afterwards, he roamed around the dimension aimlessly for a couple of moments before he saw her. She was on the beach of tormented souls, looking blindly at the water in front of her. Tears covered her face, and her hair was floating in the breeze. Dressed in an oversized white dress, she looked like she lost all hope. Even though the way she looked now almost tempted him to just make her feel better and let her stay there, he knew she would never forgive herself if he let her hurt their friends.
"Freyja!!" he shouted again, now running towards her
Immediately, she turned to face him. Confusion was written all over her face.
"Ace? Where are we?" she asked.
"Honey, I would love to have the time to explain, but you may have already killed the boys by the time I finish," Ace said, worry clear in his eyes.
"What??" she asked, not understanding.
"No time, snap out of it!!" Ace said and pushed her into the water, making her come to her senses.
When she finally got out of her daze, she was already in wolf form. In all her graciousness, Rhea had her teeth sunk into Kai's hip and sent him straight into the wall, whimpering in pain. Deegan pounced with all his might and made her fall over, hitting the corner of the couch with her head. She shook her head, dizzy from the blow, and in no time was back on her feet, preparing to strike again.
"RHEA!!!!" Freyja shouted in panic, snapping Rhea from her murder's spree.
"What happened?" Rhea asked, confused.
"I don't know either," Freyja spoke softly, suddenly feeling exhausted
She changed into her human form, and so did the other two. When she saw the wounds on their bodies, she fell to her knees and started crying.
"I'm sorry," Freyja said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Blade limped to her side and hugged her tightly.
"It's alright, love. Everything will be alright," he said, caressing her hair.
After calming down and hearing everything that happened after she lost control, she was afraid of herself. If she handled all that and by what her mother said was just a tiny portion of her power, what else was she capable of doing without even knowing?
