Chapter 3 - 3. Indebted to His Family

A few days ago, Jerry and Phil who are business friends, intend to match one of their children. However, it turns out that of Phil's three children, only Liam is willing to marry first. Meanwhile, Jerry immediately pointed to Aubrey because she was the eldest child.

"But father, I don't want to get married yet. I still enjoy my job as a lecturer and run a coffee shop. I don't want it all to stop after I get married. Besides, I don't know who Liam is. I just found out about the person this morning. And you know what? He came to my campus just to find out who Aubrey Green was. Basically, I don't want to get married so soon. I'll get married when I'm ready. That's all!" Aubrey said firmly as she folded her arms in front of his chest.

"Aubrey, getting married doesn't mean you stop all your work. You can still continue to work after marriage. Try to get acquainted with Liam first. If you two know each other, you might be interested in marrying him." Jerry answered patiently persuading his eldest daughter. Aubrey is a good girl and cares for her family. But, her stance is very hard if she already wants something.

"No, not really. If you are in a hurry to marry your daughter, just ask Chesa to marry him." Aubrey exited the room leaving her father who smiled faintly and took a deep breath. It's also wrong not to discuss this with his two daughters first. But, everything was planned so everything had to go according to the plan.

Aubrey walked out to her room passing by Patricia, her stepmother, who gave Aubrey a scornful look. She and Chesa strongly disliked her husband's daughter from his first marriage. For her, Aubrey is an obstacle that will seize the inheritance rights of her only child, Chesa.

" What's wrong dear? Why does Aubrey seem so upset?" Patricia approached her husband who was still sitting in the reading room.

"Pat, there's something I need to talk to you about. Sit down, please!" Jerry asked the woman he had been married to for 23 years to sit across from him and listen to what he had to say. Patricia obeyed and sat on the chair in front of her husband.

"Pat, you know the family of The Knights? I am indebted to their family. When my company was on the verge of collapse, Phil invested huge sums of money in my company and my company has stabilized and is growing rapidly to this day. Now, he needs my help to allow one of my children to marry one of his sons. Because his wife is very sick and wants to see her child get married soon." Said Jerry stopped his story for a moment.

"Then? You suggest Aubrey marry one of his children?" Patricia asked to be sure. Jerry nodded and sighed again.

"Does Aubrey agree with this decision?" Patricia asked again.

"No, she doesn't. She still wants to work and doesn't want to get married so soon." Jerry answered, staring languidly at the ceiling in his reading room.

" What kind of a man will Aubrey marry?" Patricia said after a moment of silence.

"Liam, their youngest. He was a bit different compared to his older brothers. He is… a bit… less intelligent, not as interested in the business world as his father and his two older brothers, just a painter, and has never been close to any women." said Jerry. Jerry had met Liam once when he visited Phil's house to discuss their respective children's wedding plans.

"No wonder Aubrey doesn't like it. However, if he's handsome and very manly, she definitely won't refuse, tsk!" Patricia said with her cynical grin.

"In fact, I think he is the most handsome compared to his two brothers," said Jerry.

"Oh? But why doesn't Aubrey like it?" Patricia asked again.

"As I said, Aubrey still wants to work and isn't thinking about getting married so soon." Answered Jerry.

"May I offer it to Chesa? Maybe Chesa is interested." Patricia felt it was a good opportunity for her to have a rich family like The Knight for her daughter, Chesa. The matter of intelligence can be discussed later. The important thing is that her daughter can join the big family of The Knight.

"It's okay if Chesa is interested. Isn't she still in college? Even the lectures aren't over yet." Answered Jerry. Chesa is a child who is too pampered so that she has been less independent since childhood. She played too much with her friends and didn't focus on her study so it wasn't finished after 6 years of college.

"I'll try to convince her. Just leave it to me!" Patricia smiled happily. It was as if victory was already in her hands. When else will you have the opportunity to join a conglomerate family if not for marrying Chesa? Patricia thought.

"Okay, I'll leave it to you. I want the decision tonight. Tomorrow, I want to meet Phil to discuss the next plan." Jerry replied with a forced smile. He wasn't sure Chesa would want to, given her character who was still having fun.

Patricia left the room and called her only biological child.

"Chesa, where are you? Come home soon! There's something I want to tell you. This is very important for our survival." Patricia whispered over the phone to her daughter. Without realizing it, Aubrey heard the conversation from behind the kitchen wall.

"Huh, we'll see who is more worthy to be part of The Knight family! You don't know yourself, just enjoy your job with a small salary." Patricia cursed Aubrey with a cynical face. While Aubrey smirked at the words of the stepmother who had never liked her since setting foot in this house. Aubrey doesn't care about other people's wealth. For her, she can get what she wants by relying on her own abilities, without having to depend on others.

Aubrey came out of the kitchen after putting down the empty glass that had been drunk completely. Patricia, who didn't expect Aubrey to be in the kitchen, widened her eyes hoping this girl didn't hear what she just said. Aubrey smiled faintly as she passed her stepmother.

"Boss, are you going to the coffee shop this afternoon?" Liza, one of Aubrey's employees at the shop called her.

"What is it? Is there a problem there?" Aubrey, who had just entered the room to take a shower, canceling it.

"Nothing, everything is fine. It's just that Christin and I were surprised, why there were so many visitors today, not as usual. There was even a group of 6 men who ordered drinks multiple times." Liza answered in a hasty tone.

"Okay, I'll be there after taking a shower and changing clothes. I just got home after teaching." Aubrey immediately hung up the phone and headed for the bathroom. Her plan to take a bath in the bathtub had to be postponed until later tonight after returning from the coffee shop.

It only took Aubrey 15 minutes to shower and get dressed again. When she became a lecturer, her attire would be very formal. However, when she was in her coffee shop, Aubrey would look casual and even look more like a student than a lecturer.

"How? Everything is safe right?" Aubrey, who came in wearing a slightly loose short-sleeved shirt and jeans, looked not much different from the two employees even though they were five years apart in age. Aubrey saw that there were indeed a lot of visitors tonight than usual. Those who came were in groups with their friends. Luckily there were no riots and everyone paid in an orderly manner.

"Everything's fine, boss. Forgive us for asking the boss to come to the tavern tonight." Said Christin with a guilty face.

"Don't worry, I'd rather be here than at home. hehe…" Aubrey replied with a light laugh.

"Hi, I want to order coffee and bread to eat here, may I?" A handsome-looking man with silver hair came from behind Aubrey who was still standing in front of the cashier counter.

"Oh sorry… please…" Aubrey's words stopped for a moment when she found out who was behind her.

"Hey, we meet again. hehe…" Really this man is actually handsome when he is silent. When he spoke, he looked more like a mentally retarded and insecure person. Christin who became the cashier smiled stiffly at the man in front of her.

"Christin, serve guests well. I want to go in first." Aubrey ignored Liam's greeting and went inside to grab an apron and join the shoppers.

"Oh yes, sorry. What do you want, sir?" Christin asked softly and politely.

"I'd like to order a cappuccino and any bread is okay," Liam replied with a timid smile.

"All right, seventeen dollars in all," Christin said. She couldn't take her eyes off the man in front of her while taking orders and preparing them herself.

"Here is the money. Just keep the change." Says Liam again.

Christin wrapped the drinks and bread into the prepared paper bags. Liam occasionally glanced inside, hoping that his future wife would come out and meet her again.

"Thank you." Said Liam. The man with silver hair looked for an empty table and found it in a corner with two chairs that had been left by the previous visitor and had been cleaned by Liza.
