Aubrey, who had come a long time ago and was in the kitchen, was listening to everything with trepidation. It turns out that Chesa doesn't want to get married, but she just doesn't want to get married if her future husband is Liam.
Aubrey came out of the kitchen and passed three people arguing fiercely. Jerry didn't want to know, anyway one of his children had to marry the son of The Knights and that meant Liam. Jerry felt deeply indebted to their father so this was the only thing he could do to repay him.
"Well, let Aubrey marry that idiot. After all, she had graduated from college and was already working so there was no problem. While I'm still a student, she's definitely not a burden." A cynical grin was clearly visible from Chesa's lips. Aubrey doesn't know why this girl always shows a face of hostility to her. Neither did her mother, who never liked seeing Aubrey's face.
"That's why you finish your studies quickly! Do not work just spree and wandering unclear! Take your sister, Aubrey, for example. She finished college in only four years, whereas you have more than five years and still haven't finished it." Jerry couldn't understand why Chesa had a different character from Aubrey.
Jerry's words made Chesa and Patricia even more irritated.
"Daddy, I also study hard. If you are so proud of Aubrey, why doesn't she just marry Liam? I want to marry the children of the Knights, as long as it's not Liam!" Chesa screamed very loudly then ran to her room on the second floor.
"You're exaggerating, honey. You shouldn't persuade her with a sentence like that. Now she doesn't want to, so Aubrey has to marry their child." Patricia replied as she ran after Chesa to her room.
Jerry didn't know what to talk to Phil about tomorrow. Neither of his two daughters wants to marry Liam. The middle-aged man sat down and sighed with a restless face. Aubrey was actually very sorry to see her daddy like that. But, she also didn't want to get married at this time. Not because Liam became her future husband, but because there are too many dreams that have not been achieved. She didn't want things to stop just because of a marriage.
"Dad ..." Aubrey walked over and sat on the sofa next to him.
"Aubrey, tell me … what should I do? I have no way out anymore." There was a heavy sigh from Jerry's lips. Aubrey couldn't bear to see her father suffer like this.
"Dad, allow me to come with you tomorrow to meet Mr. Phil." Aubrey intends to meet and have a small talk with William's father. At least she could give a good reason to refuse this matchmaking.
"Is it true? Do you want to come with me tomorrow to meet Mr. Phil?" Instantly Jerry's face brightened and was full of enthusiasm.
"Yeah but I don't want to agree. I just wanted to talk to Mr. Phil." Answered Aubrey.
"Yes, it's up to you, the important thing is that tomorrow I have something to say. It's very late now, you should sleep first. Tomorrow at 8 a.m. we will leave the house and go to their house, okay ." Jerry patted his eldest daughter on the shoulder and smiled happily and left her for the room.
For the sake of her father, Aubrey agreed to meet with Mr. Phil tomorrow. Her father is the only family in this world. Mami, who had died since Aubrey was little, made her the finger of a strong and independent woman. No relatives and family by her side when she needed it. Made Aubrey realize that she had to stand on her own two feet, unable to rely on anyone else.
-----
The next morning was greeted with different faces from all the residents of The Green house. Chesa was happy that she had finally escaped the ridiculous arranged marriage between two families whose husband-to-be was the man with the worst criteria ever, according to her. Patricia was glad that her daughter didn't marry an idiot who would make her daughter miserable in the future. Jerry and Aubrey enjoyed breakfast peacefully without any hostility or envy at all.
"Aubrey, we'll be leaving in a minute. Are you ready?" Jerry said.
"Yes, I am, dad. I'll follow your car from behind. After meeting with Mr. Phil, I went straight to campus. There is a class teaching at 1 pm. Hopefully, it won't be long before we meet." Aubrey replied while wiping her lips with the napkin provided.
"Okay, let's go now. Pat, I'm leaving now." Jerry glanced at Patricia and walked hand in hand with Aubrey who looked very neat in a plain blue shirt that fit perfectly and a tight knee-length skirt, with golden blonde hair flowing beautifully. Aubrey's beauty is very natural and without heavy make-up. Because the real beauty of a woman is in her attitude and the way of her thinking. Many men had a crush on Aubrey but none of them responded. Because Aubrey knew they were just messing around and nothing serious.
"Sigh, you arrogant woman! Let her feel that she has an idiot and ugly husband. How will she have a face when she faces so many people later." Chesa smirked sarcastically showing her extreme displeasure. To her, Aubrey was an eternal enemy. Her father always compared her to herself. In any case, Aubrey must have always surpassed her. Likewise, Patricia hates her stepdaughter since the first time she married Jerry and entered this residence. Aubrey always excels in every way compared to Chesa, her daughter. And that's what made her hate Aubrey so much. Plus, Aubrey never obeyed her and always did what she wants to do. That made Patricia hate Aubrey even more.
Aubrey's tiny yellow sedan, which she bought from her own savings, followed her father's car, which preceded her. They walked together towards the Knights' house according to the previous agreement. Phil did not tell his three children about the arrival of the Green family, plus today is still office hours so everyone is still busy with their respective jobs.
It took about 1-hour drive until they arrived at the towering iron sheet belonging to a luxury house which was probably the most spacious among other luxury houses in this elite housing. Aubrey took a deep breath. This was his first meeting with The Knight family. For some reason, Aubrey's heart was beating fast. She hopes she won't meet Liam here. Because that man always shows up every day to meet Aubrey for various reasons.
Two black and yellow cars entered after introducing themselves to meet the owner of the house. Aubrey got out of her car and sighed heavily. Jerry saw his daughter looked nervous. He smiled lovingly.
"Come here honey, don't worry. There's daddy here. We'll face it together, okay?" Said Jerry to which Aubrey nodded.
"Welcome to our home. Jerry, come on in." Phil welcomed Jerry from the moment the father and son entered the house. "And this is…" Phil squinted his eyes. The young and beautiful woman in front of his eyes was really able to make himself amazed.
"This is my first daughter, Aubrey. Aubrey, please introduce Mr. and Mrs. Phil Knight." Jerry introduced his daughter to his future parents-in-law.
"Good morning and greetings sir and madam Knight. My name is Aubrey Green." With great courtesy and an elegant and mature demeanor, Aubrey exhibits the characteristics of a woman who knows manners and respects her elders.
"Oh, how beautiful and so graceful you are. Your mother must be incredibly beautiful." Anna liked Aubrey from the first impression. She already had a feeling that Aubrey was the right match for his youngest son, William.
"Thank you, Madam. My mom indeed is the most beautiful woman in the world ." Aubrey replied with a bright smile and was happy that her mother had been praised by another woman.
"Come on, please sit down. There was no one at home, just the two of us and a few maids. The boys are already in their respective offices." Anna said while holding the arm of her very beautiful daughter-in-law. Incessantly, Anna looked at Aubrey's beautiful face.
Jerry and Phil sat on the single sofa side by side, while Anna pulled Aubrey by the arm to sit with her on the one long couch. It had been a long time since Phil had seen the bright smile on his wife's lips. A severe disease that has been on her body for a long time, makes her always moody, and refuses to meet people.
"Your clothes are very neat like a working person. Do you have any work outside?" Anna asked curiously, seeing Aubrey's neat and understated clothes.
"That's right, madam, I am a lecturer at one of the famous campuses here," Aubrey replied with a shy smile.
"You…a lecturer? How old are you now?" asked Anna in surprise.
"This year I turn twenty-four," Aubrey replied kindly.
