Liam smiled faintly and replied, "Fine I'll go now. Sorry to interrupt your time." The man briefly smiled at Aubrey but was ignored by her.
Aubrey held back the emotions that suddenly arose. How could she not be emotional if she was immediately surprised by the news of a marriage that she had never heard of before. Aubrey returned to the lecture hall after adjusting her breathing to become regular again.
"Where are we headed now, sir?" The driver waiting for Liam in the campus parking lot opened the door for the youngest master of the Knight family.
"Impressive! The Greens have two daughters and I chose the first. Huh, unexpectedly, her personality is very different from her sister." Liam, who is in front of many people, has a very different attitude when he is alone or with the driver as well as his personal aide, Noah.
"Noah, what information did you get?" Liam held his chin with his hands.
"So far only data that Miss Aubrey Green and Chesa Green are one father and another mother. Miss Aubrey's mother died when she was little. Her father remarried and Chesa Green was born. However, in the family, Aubrey and Chesa get different treatment. The stepmother and her child hate Miss Aubrey very much and slander her in every way possible to get out of her father's inheritance." Noah said as he looked at the campus in front of the car window.
"Hmm, like that. Very interesting. Then, we go straight home and meet my mother and father. My two brothers can't wait to match this idiotic little brother with the Greens."
"Ready Sir." Noah started the car engine and drove out of the campus parking area. Liam's eyes stared at the window of the lecturer room on the second floor from behind the glass window. Unexpectedly, it turns out that Aubrey was staring at the departure of a luxury car from upstairs. Their eyes met and stared at each other from a distance.
"I have to confirm this with father. There's no way he could match me without asking me." Aubrey decided to go home as soon as possible after teaching hours were over.
-----
"Liam, come sit down." Phil Knight, the father of three sons, Martin, Jason, and William, asked his three children to sit down together to discuss something very important. Their mother, Anna, had been sitting waiting for a long time.
"Okay, dad." William or usually called Liam sat on the far side of the sofa. Martin, his first brother is on the middle sofa, Jason, his second brother is on the left.
"You all know, you are old enough to enter the stage of marriage. However, in order to become the daughter-in-law of the Knight family, one must be from affluent circles, not just any woman. Martin… Jason… do you guys have a future wife?" The atmosphere in the father's office was suddenly full of tension and the dominating aura of his father, the sole determinant in this family, was very thick.
"I'm still busy with many ongoing projects. And also, there are some new investors who are interested to collaborate with The Knight Corp." said Martin, the eldest son.
"It's the same with me, dad. I just started the property business and the prospects are very bright. I don't have time to be in a relationship with a woman. Later when my business has progressed rapidly, getting a woman is not a difficult thing for me." Said Jason, the second child.
"Hmm, you guys have been really busy lately, leaving early in the morning and coming home late at night. But, still, you guys have to get married. I give you a deadline until next year. If until next year you haven't found a woman to be your wife, I will determine who the future wife will be for you." Martin and Jason were silent. However, in their hearts, they rebelled. Why should their father's personal affairs also have to intervene?
"Liam, how about you? Do you already have a future wife?" Everyone looked at the silent Liam with gloomy faces. His two older brothers smirked at their youngest brother. "How could any woman want to be with an idiot and a weird guy? Even grandmothers would think thousand times if they wanted to marry him." In their hearts they say.
"I … I … have found my future wife, father." Liam's answer was truly astonishing and made everyone present widen their eyes. "Sigh, this must be Liam's trick so as not to be forced to marry the woman of his father's choice. Where is a sane woman who would marry him?" Martin thought.
"Oh, who is she? Do I know her family?" Phil asked curiously. His youngest son is indeed different from his two older brothers who like a business. Liam is more likely to enjoy the outdoors by painting. However, the results of his paintings are not just any painting. Liam often holds exhibitions and always breaks through with fantastic sales prices.
"She's ... one of the daughters of the Jerry Green family," Liam replied while lowering his timid face.
"Hahaha, Liam. When did you know that girl? Is she a disabled woman? Ugly, fat, and spotty? Hahaha, you really have a great imagination." Martin said proudly.
"Martin, watch your words! After all, Liam is superior to you guys who can't approach a single girl for marriage." Phil glared at his first son in anger who had spoken hurtful to his youngest brother.
"Father, I'm fine. Brother Martin is right, maybe my imagination is too high. But, you can meet her father to be clearer." Liam answered with hesitation and a timid face.
"Alright, you will arrange a meeting with them. I'll come whenever it's ready." Phil walked out of the study and automatically the family meeting was over and everyone disbanded.
"William, even though you are my brother, you must not forget your limits. If you got married first, wouldn't that just be an indirect stain on our faces?" Jason confirmed his older brother, Martin, by nodding and grinning sarcastically.
"So, what should I do? Father asked that one of us get married." Liam said with a timid grin.
" Sigh, you just tell your girl not to agree to this year's marriage. And I'm sure she'll gladly agree. Huh, isn't that right?" Martin said as his body drew closer to Liam giving off an aura of emphasis.
"Okay, I'll talk to her tomorrow," Liam said again.
"Good, so much better. At least, you understand your status as the youngest child. Huh." Martin snorted sarcastically and Jason followed his brother out of the study.
Now it's just Anna and Liam in it.
"Liam, you do not have to care what the word your brother said. They're kind of envious because you can get a future wife faster than them." Anna rubbed the child's back. Liam's white hair color is inherited from his mother. While his two older brothers got their hair color from their father and grandmother.
"Yes, mom. I'm going back to my room now. Thank you mommy for always supporting me." Liam answered with a timid tone and a downcast face.
Anna looked her special youngest child in the eyes. Quiet does not like to compete and likes to be alone. But behind all his traits, Liam is the smartest child and always gets the highest grades in his class since he was in elementary school. In addition, he is the child who cares the most about his father and mother. Unlike his two older siblings who are rarely at home and difficult to ask for help related to the family.
As usual, when no one else was around, William returned to his normal self with eyes gleaming with intrigue. His lips were silent again without the smile and grin that he often did in front of many people to look like an idiot, and strange.
"Sir, this is the latest information I received from the men in the field." A written message goes into Liam's cell phone and it contains a series of reports which basically explain that Aubrey has never had a boyfriend before and her world is just a coffee shop, college, and home. "What a dream wife, very attractive," Liam said.
"Father, I want to talk. Can we talk somewhere?" Coming home from teaching, the sun was sinking in the west. Aubrey immediately looked for her father and found him drinking tea on the terrace, accompanied by his stepmother, Patricia.
"You just came home from teaching, instead of taking a shower first. What a disrespectful child at all." Patricia complained and said rudely as usual. Aubrey didn't care.
"Alright, let's go to the reading room." Jerry rose from his seat and left Patricia alone on the terrace.
"Father, is it true that you set me up with a child from the Knight family?" Aubrey immediately asked without further ado.
Jerry was silent for a moment and looked for a way to keep this father-daughter conversation from getting heated.
"Actually not to you, but more to one of you, you and your sister. However, since you are the first child so I suggest you marry one of the Knight brothers." Answered Jerry. A few days ago, Jerry and Phil who are business friends, intend to match one of their children. However, it turns out that of Phil's three children, only Liam is willing to marry first. Meanwhile, Jerry immediately pointed to Aubrey because she was the eldest child.
