Chapter 47
I was sitting under the starry sky as I read the letter my commanding officer had passed on to me. It was a bunch of unmatched papers rolled and tied with a twine made out of grass. Some of the papers were from a paper wrapper of our rations. Others were neat like it was from an officer's table. But what was so special was the person who wrote it. It was a letter from Xedjedy, two months after we got deployed into the battlefield.
'Fran,
My commanding officer had promised to pass my letters to your officer, so if you are reading this, he kept his word. I am writing you this letter as we waited to be dropped off to our zone.
Our eyes met as I saw you walking into that container van earlier today, and I promised myself that this would be the last time that we'd be apart for a long period of time. I'd have to kiss you if we would ever be apart again.
