"Get in" Saff said smiling at her with no bucket hat or mask on that shows his almost perfect face.
Just like what Saff said, Emy gets in his car without thinking twice, she puts on the seat belt and notice that the car window is still half open like the usual whenever she ride Saff's car. Somehow, it became a habit for Saff whenever Emy is in his car.
"How did you know where I was?" Emy asked looking at Saff with furrowed eyebrows.
"I put a tracker on you!" Saff teasingly said his joke as he looks at her with naughty smile on his face and then he looks back at the road as he starts to drive.
Thinking she would never get a serious answer from Saff now, Emy didn't ask him again and just let it slide, after all having Saff's presence now is something Emy is thankful for as she won't have to ride home by herself at this hour.
Instead, Emy just look through the open window, she move her head closer to the window so she could feel the cool breeze of the night that gently touched the warmth of her cheeks.
Emy felt dizzy, realizing the effect of alcohol is finally acting up in her body as soon as her body relaxed. She heard Saff asked her while she still enjoys looking at the side of the street they are passing by.
"How did the welcome party goes?"
"How did you know we have a welcome party tonight?" Emy questioned back after a question while still looking through the half open window, her voice is calm now without any hint of confusion.
"You know I have connections!" Saff answered while smiling but Emy didn't saw it, Saff looks at one side of her face from time to time while he is driving, and he noticed her face is calmer now than the first time she ride his car, her body is more relaxed now and her hands is not trembling anymore.
"Hmmm…" Emy lightly nods her head as she answered in a hum and smiles at Saff's response as if she is already expecting that from him; somehow she knew that she is getting comfortable with his presence as the time passes even just for few days that they started spending time at work or even beyond working hours.
Seeing the improvement on Emy that she is not that over drunk and crying, made Saff's mood lighter, it has became his concern for quite some time now whenever she had to attend party or simply with hanging out that includes alcohol and drinking. Her habit of crying while being drunk always bothers his thought that he can't seem to shake off being worried about her, so when he saw Manager Anne's post on her social media account which they follow each other's account, he called her when they are still at the bar to check them or specifically on Emy, he also informed Manager Anne that he will be picking up Emy after.
At least now he will not see her in a state of condition where she is trying to hide her sweaty palms and stiffened body while she endures her anxiety riding with him, and right now just the thought of it makes Saff's lips curved into a smile feeling relieved.
Saff sent Emy home and drove back to the dorm. The night is cold but Emy's heart seem to be feeling warm inside, she lay down on the empty bed that doesn't feel so empty anymore after taking a quick shower and changes her clothes.
Emy thought that maybe it was somehow the effect of alcohol in her body, a different kind of effect this time after having experienced alcohol for the longest time she could remember. Maybe this time she won't be staying awake until the break of dawn as she had expected awhile ago, because this warm feeling that she is feeling right now gives her the comfort that her eyes slowly closes and her mind drifts away as she has a small smile that lingers on her pink lips.
The morning came and Emy got up early to prepare breakfast for her mother and little Amy as she woke up earlier than her mother this time in an unusual brighter mood. She turned the stereo on to play music in a low volume so she won't disturb the two that are still enjoying their sleep while she is cooking the spam and eggs.
This is the first time she put an effort to prepare breakfast after almost eleven months that she had stopped doing this, it is because ever since the death of her husband, her motivation, energy, and driving force seemed to die with him too.
She used to mentally scold herself back then that she needed to get herself together as she still had her daughter with her, but her body won't follow. That also became one of the reasons why she had to move back into her mother's house, as Mrs. Prim insisted back then that she would love to help Emy take care of Amy as her mother herself knew what Emy is feeling at that moment.
For the past eleven months, Emy didn't have the time to have breakfast as she wasn't able to have a decent sleep every night and if ever she finally fell asleep it's already five in the morning, besides she was always drunk when she goes back home at night and woke up with a hangover that she doesn't have any appetite to eat once she woke up.
"Emy...what are you doing?!" Mrs. Prim is a bit surprised as she approached the kitchen and saw that there is someone already there when she came down the stairs and saw that it is her Emy.
"Cooking, mom" Emy said a bit startled to hear her mom's voice behind her.
"Why? What happened?" Mrs. Prim asked still stunned by Emy's action, she somehow can't believe it as she didn't expected this from her daughter anytime soon.
It's not that Mrs. Prim is not happy with what she is seeing right now but it's just that after the death of her son-in-law, Emy's world seemed to have died with his husband too. She cannot and will not blame her daughter if she felt that way then as she had experienced that kind of sorrow too.
Mrs. Prim just wanted her daughter to take her time to grieve as that would be the best option to keep her sane, and to make sure that she will be there as a strong support system for her through the whole process.
Right now Mrs. Prim is just surprised with her improvement, and eventually her shocked was replaced by happiness for her daughter's current state. Mrs. Prim hold her phone and took a photo of her daughter while Emy stands in front of the stove with her hair done in a messy bun, holding a spatula in one hand and the non-stick pan on the other hand with her apron on.
Immediately she posted it on her social media account with a caption 'we missed eating your prepared breakfast…Happy morning!' as she is so proud seeing her improvement.
"Mom, stop it!" Emy said while glaring at her mom now with a little annoyance in her tone but still in a sweet way.
"What? It's rare! And rare moments like this should be captured as good memories" Mrs. Prim said smiling while typing on her smart phone.
Emy just let her mom do whatever she wishes to do, after all she somehow agreed with what she has said. She put on the table the spam and eggs with toasted loaves on the separate plate; also she prepared her daughter's medium hot milk, and brewed coffee for both her mother and herself.
Just in time, Amy had woken up and entered the kitchen.
"Good morning grandma! Good morning mom!" Amy greeted with sweet smile as she sits in her usual chair in front of the table, smelling the food that was already served. Then she continue to say "are you joining us for breakfast mom?!" Amy asked but it is more of an invitation than a question as she politely smiled at Emy.
Emy smiled back at her daughter's sweet beautiful face as she nods her head in agreement. Then Mrs. Prim says "not only she would be joining us but also, your mom was the one who prepared all of it!"
Hearing it from Mrs. Prim, Amy excitedly rushes to get down from her chair and run towards where Emy is sitting. Amy hugged her mom tight as if saying how grateful she is for the little thing like this that her mom did for them. This already means so much for Amy as she somehow understands her mom's situation as Mrs. Prim didn't fail to explain to her in a way that she can understand it.
