The sun was beginning to go down, everyone went inside to have dinner. There was jerky, along with more canned food. After everyone finished eating there portions, they went to sleep until the next sunrise. Nick was the first one to wake up, he went to get his static electric weapon and went outside to finally test it out again.
Nick placed the weapon on a rocking chair on the patio, before searching for any electric powered machines in the shed close by. He found an electric powered chainsaw, took it outside, placed it on a barrel that was next to the shed, and went to grab his weapon. Immediately after turning it on, Nick could feel the static lifting his hair up. He slowly turned a dial, which slowly increased the static throughout his body. When he was satisfied, Nick pushed the dial in to lock it in place. He raised his right arm, aimed with his fist, and pointed at the chainsaw with his index finger. ZAP! In a split second, a strand of static electricity came from Nick's finger and struck the chainsaw, frying the electronics, to the point where it was smoking.
Kasey came outside, due to the sound of the weapon and the smell of the smoke, and said, "what the hell is happening!?" "I tested it out, and I think it's ready to kill those bastards," Nick said, pleased with the results. "What in God's name do you think you're doing!?" Mary yelled, shaking her fist in a scolding manner, as she came out of the house moments later. "Ugh," Nick said, knowing this was the beginning of another argument he was gonna have to win. "I was testing out my weapon that I'm gonna use against the aliens," he said. "I don't want to have any involvement in your revolt!" Mary continued to yell at Nick, while angrily walking towards him. "Don't you want protection against them at least?" He said, backing away from Mary as she was getting too close to him. "Yeah, I do, but you aren't protecting no one by signaling them with that smoke!" Mary yelled. "You're not doing such a good job yourself, making all that noise lady!" Kasey said to Mary, defending Nick. "Don't even get me started with you young lady!" Mary snapped at her. "Mom? What's wrong?" Jerry asked, while coming out of the house, still tired. Mary quickly changed her attitude and turned to face her son, "nothing dear, go back to bed," she said, not wanting her son to see her yelling at his friend and Kasey. Jerry, still tired, listened to his mother and went back to bed. "I'll just put it back," Nick said, carefully picking up the now useless chainsaw, and putting it back in the shed where it came from.
When Nick came out of the shed, Mary looked at him with a disapproving look and went back to the house to wake up Donald. "That was kind of stupid, you have to admit," Kasey said. "Yeah, but she overreacted," Nick said back. They talked a little more before going back to the house to have breakfast with everyone else, acting like nothing eventful happened earlier.
