They stayed in the town for about two weeks before they talked about going to the camp. "Should we just check it out? I mean, it wouldn't hurt if we did... would it?" Kasey said, speaking her mind. "I don't know, it could be too risky," Mary replied, worried about everyone's well being. "I think we should gather more supplies before going there, if we do decide to go there," Donald said, inputting his thoughts on the matter. "I agree, better safe than sorry," Jerry added. "What do you think Nick?" Everyone turned their heads to Nick, he was thinking hard, rubbing his chin like a wise man. "I think we should make our way to the camp with precaution and with more guns than we already have, we'll probably run into trouble sooner than later," Nick finally said. Everyone thought about it for a long while, the room they were in became silent and awkward. "Maybe we should sleep on it," Kasey said, breaking the silence and yawning. "Fine with me," Mary said, who was also beginning to get tired. In fact, everyone was beginning to get tired, so they decided to talk about it over breakfast, and went to sleep in their hotel rooms that they would leave behind the next day undoubtedly.
In the morning, when the group had breakfast, they discussed, "So, what's the final verdict?" Jerry said, before putting a spoonful of dry cereal in his mouth and chewing. Donald looked at Mary and they nodded at each other, "we should stock up on supplies and make our way to the camp," Donald said. It was decided, no one argued with the final decision. They finished breakfast, scavenged the town one last time, packed the truck, and went towards the camp, which seemed like their only hope of living through the alien invasion for a little longer.
It was almost pitch black, Nick was driving, with Kasey riding shotgun, and the others were in the back, sleeping. "When do you think it'll all be over?" Kasey asked, starting up a conversation. "Someday, hopefully it ends in our favor, but that'll have to take a miracle to happen." Nick grimaced, keeping his eyes on the road that's been barren for the whole trip, besides a few crashed cars here and there. "Well, you have your static machine, it looks like it'll do some damage to their electronics, right?" Kasey said back, trying to be optimistic. "That's true, but it can only do so much, I don't even know if it'll do anything to their weapons or vehicles," Nick replied, with some pessimism. "Have you given up all your hope?" Kasey asked with concern. "I don't think so, I'm just a bit skeptical that I'll do some damage to those extra-terrestrials. I mean, who knows how advanced their technology is! The only thing I know is that they have thermal sensors, attack large populations, and have only been affected by an EMP," Nick said, almost on a rant. "They were affected by an EMP? Isn't that a promising sign?" Kasey asked. "Not really, it barely affected them, only turned off their guns for a couple of seconds, and they resumed like nothing happened," Nick replied bitterly. "There's a silver lining there, we need to have hope that we'll persevere and overcome this challenge that we face now," Kasey said, eager to give Nick some confidence. Nick sighed, and said, "Maybe we can talk about this later, I'm starting to get tired." He drove for a couple more minutes until they got to a rest area, where they slept for the rest of the night.
"When are we gonna get to the camp?" Jerry asked, once they started to go on the road again. "I believe we'll be there in a couple of days at the rate we're going," Nick said, still driving. "I think we should stop at the next town to resupply," Donald said. "Alright, will do," Nick replied. Kasey was quiet while they were driving to the next town, not as talkative as last night. They got to the town, barren as the last one, they squeezed it out of the few resources it had and moved on. They managed to get some more guns and ammunition, canned food, and a couple gallons of siphoned gasoline. They drove for a while longer until they stopped to sleep the night away, unsure of the meager hope their destination had.
