A couple days later, Paige, Sam's Girlfriend, asks me to come to a dinner party she's hosting and to bring Evan along. I tell Sam no at first, until I find out that she really won't be here. She'll be on Sam's tablet on facetime, since she's away at college. The only thing she says we can't wear is tweed, so I immediately know what to do. Evan can't come, so I ask Izzie instead. I ask her to meet me at a thrift store to look for a tweed suit. "You're ridiculous." She says, laughing. "The look on Paige's face will be priceless. I can't wait." I tell her. I get a crappy tweed suit for 11 bucks, but it'll do. Izzie gets pie from a store before we go. "Maybe this will make up for your suit." She says. I smile.
"Hey, dorks! Look what I found at the thrift store!" I yell to Sam and Paige when Izzie and I walk in. "And I brought pie to make up for it." I hear Izzie tell them, smiling. "Sam, I said no tweed." Paige angrily tells Sam through the tablet. "Oh. I thought you said only tweed." Izzie and I laugh. "We'll make it work." Paige says, annoyed. "What time will Evan be arriving?" Paige asks. "Evan's busy, so Izzie's filling in." I say, as I put my arm around her. "I'm her date." Izzie says, smirking. I feel my face turn red. "Tweed suit, new guest, I mean what's in the pie, dog poop?" Paige asks, still angry. I laugh. The doorbell rings, and Paige asks Sam to get the door while Izzie and I take the pie to the kitchen.
"The look on Paige's face was well worth the 11 dollars. But I gotta say, this suit itches like a bitch, and there's a spot on my back I can't quite reach." I tell Izzie, as I keep trying to scratch the itch on my back. "I can reach it." Izzie says. She puts her hand on my back to scratch the itch. Immediately I feel my stomach hurt a little and my face turn red, so I turn away. "So, it's weird that Evan didn't say anything to my dad." I say, trying to change the conversation and what just happened. Evan was supposed to go for a ride in the ambulance with my dad for an orientation, but he bailed, and didn't even apologize after. "Yeah. He was probably just embarrassed. He should have at least called." Izzie says. "Right." I reply. "Whatever, boys are dumb, we don't need them." Izzie tells me, smirking. "Yeah, screw boys. Thanks for being my date to this insane dinner." I say, trying not to stare at her lips. My feelings for her are weird, and make no sense, since she's a girl and I'm with Evan. But I wonder what it would be like to kiss her. "What's insane about it?" Paige asks angrily. "Nothing." Izzie tells her. "All cool, robo-host." I pipe in. Paige still looks mad.
In a couple minutes, Zahid and his girlfriend Gretchen arrive. We walk to the door. "Hey." I say. He introduces Gretchen. "This is Casey." He tells Gretchen. "If it helps you remember, "I'm the one in tweed." I laugh. "I don't know this one." Zahid points to Izzie. "I'm Izzie." She says, bouncing on her toes. She's so cute. "She came with the suit." I say. Izzie smiles at me. We all sit down at the dinner table and talk. I sit next to Izzie, of course. Paige suggests that we do some weird icebreaker game, so I turn her tablet down so she can't see us, and we can't hear her unless she yells. "So Gretchen, where are you from?" I ask. "Near the Walmart. My mom's from Melbourne, so I'm half Australian." She says. Sam says that Zahid hates Australians, and Zahid says that he doesn't hate this one. Gretchen seems kind of toxic. She made Zahid stop saying dope, and made him not wear silk anymore. "Hey!!" Paige yells. And Zahid spills his water glass on himself. I laugh, and flip the tablet back the right way. "I was missing out!" She yells. Gretchen tells Sam that college is pointless, and they argue the whole dinner. I try to reach for the cheese, but I can't reach it. "I got it." Izzie says, as she grabs some. I hold out my hand for her to put it in, but she puts it in my mouth instead. My face flushes red and I laugh with her.
Paige asks me to take her to the bathroom with her so we can talk. I say no, but she insists. "Don't eat my cheese." I tell Izzie as I get up. She smiles up at me. When we're there, Paige tells me that Gretchen is getting on her nerves. "Should we harm her?" She asks timidly. "Yeah. I'll hold her and you punch." I joke. "Why do you care so much about this dinner? You're not even actually here." I say. "I just really need a win right now." Paige says. I hear Evan. "Evan!" I yell. I run out of the bathroom, forgetting that I left Paige in there.
I find Evan and Izzie in the kitchen, and Izzie is giving Evan a death stare. "What's this look about?" I ask. "I was just saying I'm glad that he bothered to come, instead of just standing us up." Izzie tells me. "What?" Evan asks, not knowing what Izzie is talking about. "You stood up her dad." She spits her words at him. Shit, now Evan knows I told her about him not going to the ride along. "You told her that?" Evan asks, with pain in his voice. "Well, yeah. She's my friend. And I was upset." When I say friend it doesn't sound right. "You never told me what happened with my dad." I look at him. I hear Paige scream. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Zahid says, as he runs down the stairs, holding the tablet in his hands. We all run over. "What happened?" I ask. "I saw Zahid's penis!" Paige yells. "What?" Gretchen looks at Zahid with fury in her eyes. "Not on purpose." Paige says. "I was looking for a clean shirt after I spilled water on mine, and I had the urge to drain the main vein, so I went to the bathroom!" He tells everyone. "Casey left me in there, and I thought that she would remember to come back for me. So I just kept working on my rainbow loom, and then I heard a tinkling." Paige says, in disgust. "Paige, I'm sorry. I heard Evan coming so I just left-" "Oh, so this is my fault now? Great Party." Evan interrupts me. "Chill out dude." Izzie tells him. "How about you chill out?" He replies back. I see Izzie get mad. "I would be upset if I were him too. I thought you two were a couple." Gretchen says, pointing at Izzie and I. "What?" Izzie and I say at the same time. Evan looks at us. "Maybe I should go." Izzie says. "No, I'll go." Evan says. They both walk out. That was chaotic. I can't believe Izzie acted like that towards Evan. I'm sure the reason he skipped the ride along was important, and she got all mad at him for it. But for some reason I think she was mad at him for more than just that.
